Check your car thoroughly for basic safety

I rented a car for six weeks from Auckland CBD Omega Car Rental NZ at the time of pick up they could not find a cover for the luggage area, and I asked about the tire safety. They reassured me the tires were just fine. Within three days one was running low, so I stopped in at a national tire chain with excellent customer reviews and was told that one of my tires was absolutely unsafe to be driving on and should not have been rented out. I’m currently losing a day of travel and the company rearrange their schedule to fit me in immediately. That’s after it took almost a half hour to get approval from Omega Car Rental NZ to get the wheel alignment and replacement tire approved. While I had agreed for an older vehicle, I did not realize that meant no rearview camera, no ability to connect my phone to the speaker system, a hub cap held on by zip/cable ties, no luggage cover and squealing brakes. This is very different than my experience at the Christchurch outlet.
Follow-up: After having lost half a day of touring New Zealand’s Northlands, I received a phone call response to my email, and Omega has offered me a free upgrade to a premium hybrid, if I don’t mind detouring to the AKL airport centre.

Sydney staff are great

Sydney staff are great! 6th time renting from ECCR, 1st from SYD. Staff are wonderful. I waived the insurance because my CCard covers rentals, but dinged the front fenders. I was so stressed until the staff reassured me that it would be okay. Yes, I had to pay the required $4400A damage deposit, as required, but within 3 weeks, Claims had sent me all the needed paperwork and refunded the unused portion back to my card. The SYD staff gave me all the photos/documents I needed to start my claim right away. AND the car was great, very fuel efficient, staff connected my phone/taught me the features, and I love Australia. Car was spotless and almost new. Staff were wonderful. Can't wait for #7! Also, prepaying ahead online, staff will lower rental rate and refund difference if there is a sale/deal anytime up to 2 weeks before you get the car, as long as you email them and ask for it. Free cancellation. Unlimited miles. Inexpensive gas station nearby. Easy access building in Mascot. I returned the car in the evening, walked across the street to the Travelodge, got a great sleep, walked my luggage across the street back to ECCR and got their quick free shuttle to the airport. ECCR made my adventures perfect.

I bought the APAC regional and the…

I bought the APAC regional and the coverage in Laos was non-existent, and the support was too (I was told mostly 3G only after I wrote, and to expect spotty at best). My safety was compromised because I had no map access, no email and no What’s App. Even in the two biggest cities.

When a disabled 60 year old woman asks…

When a disabled 60 year old woman asks for a tag for her carry-on, and gets told her purse counts as carry on and the only way she can take her devices without a $60 surcharge is to check the empty carry-on and hold on to the devices for 4 hours. Then the same agent is at the gate allowing everyone to take on as much untagged carry-on as they wish, except the 60 year old woman who asked a question at check-in. Why is a purse with a phone, wallet and ID counted when men carry the same in their pockets on board?

Flight cancelled out of IST BA no help

Flight cancelled out of IST. Staff struggled to get 300 passengers rebooked, get tourist visas reinstated, return luggage, but they got it done. However, upon landing 12 hours late at Heathrow, no staff were available and no hotels had been booked for those who faced overnighting in London. To top it off, BA imposed extremely unreasonable spending restrictions on hotels (200 GBP) and meals (25 GBP per day). BA provided no staff support or assistance, and sent us out into the night on our own to fend for ourselves, despite no cell service, charging plugs for devices or local currency. LHR to YVR - boarded on time, then waited 90 min for luggage to be loaded, then 30 more for line up for take off. So flight crew didn't serve 2nd meal/snack. I am waiting on my cell phone bill before I can submit my claim for expenses.

Staff at all offices are very…

Staff at all offices are very supportive. Due to car shortage I couldn't take a car on the ferry to Hobart and had to return all cars to origin rental places, adding several regional flights. I booked at great prices on Black Friday and prepaid, but as sale prices were posted, I was able to drop my rental costs considerable by cancelling/rebooking. Hobart was very disorganized - first car was not compatible with iPhone, and they forgot to write down what car they replaced it with, calling me two days later to ask what car I had...Brisbane Airport staff were awesome.

So packed with activities and learning

First G A Tour - Absolute Turkey - was amazing. I added the City Tour/Bosphorous Cruise, and Istanbul Mini-Adventure, making for 3 weeks of amazing. Communication, details and support from the wonderful Gonca, our CEO, made the trip so safe, informative and absolutely perfect. Small buses meant we got in and out of places, sites and stops that big buses cannot do. Street food in Istanbul is so tasty, clean and efficient. Visiting community good works and realizing CEOs do not get kick-backs from tacky tourist sites - superb. Every day was full of surprises that surpassed my expectations. Love Istanbul. Hot air balloon ride cancelled due to weather, but there were so many other highlights, I didn't notice. Good walking shoes essential. Small buses not suitable for obese travellers.

The customer service is 100%

The customer service is 100%. If there is a problem, it will be fixed. Staff are absolutely fantastic about quality of service, especially regarding safety, equipment, directions, access, information. If they don't know, they will find it. I have been especially impressed by the overseas email conversations/assistance before my trip. I dealt with head office, and rental offices in 4 different states - each one highly approachable supportive. Love the company, love the country.

Small but mighty

So many reasons to like this company. 1. Answered all my questions by email from Canada before I booked. 2. Every time the prices dropped, I was able to renegotiate my contracts and save $. 3. Easy pick-up to/from airports (SA, TAS, QLDx2). 4. Lovely, helpful staff. 5. If I had concerns, they were dealt with very promptly and always to my satisfaction. 5. Good cars, and they will fix any issues. 6. Best prices, unlimited mileage.

Airbnb does not support guests when there are issues

Some are great, but the support from AirBnb has been awful when things go wrong. Adelaide suite had rats in the garden, walls and under the floor, possums on the roof. Owners refuse to compensate and because I only submitted pictures of animal skeletons and mess on pathways, I was denied support. Apollo Bay - unit was not equipped with promised/listed kitchen amenities (salt, pepper, oil, coffee, towels, garbage bags), owner had decided to stop providing but won't change listing or compensate; Airbnb has now had 4 days and is still not providing support or even responses

Fast checkout

Fast checkout. Superb customer service from Stephen. Excellent car (Hyundai Accent i30 - compact). Very convenient location for taking off to points north. However, I was frustrated by the inability to take the car one way to Adelaide when I booked 6 months in advance - requiring additional flights through my 7 week trip to Australia, plus having to pay for 4 shorter, more expensive car rentals, instead of one. Not being able to do a one-way severely impacted my budget. I wish there was an easier way to contact the local office instead of having to go through customer service 1-800, as the main/central office is closed evenings/weekends/holidays.
