Scam! Charges you for same fees twice
Got an offer online and paid, arrived to pick up and was required to pay 300$ more!
I showed them the policy they sent me was inclusive to all other charges, they acknowledged it and still made me pay double or they won't give me the key
I tried to ring the Christchurch branch in advance to communicate about the pick up time over 2 days before colelcting, it went to voicemail. I tried the chat bot, and it said to phone. Then when my flights got cancelled and I again needed to contact them I couldn't. It took my daughter walking into their store to be able to speak to anyone. Appauling service.
If you want to be scammed, book a mid-size and get the cheapest compact car, dirty inside, get mocked around by staff, slow service... and to be told to "talk to economy bookings" as they cannot refund you or give you the actual car you booked but one much smaller and won't talk to you but blame a website... then book with this people, and that's what you gonna get 🤮.
I come to AKL every month and always book cars, never an issue. First and last time I book with Yes. Terrible company. We'll be filling a complained with economy bookings soon, and a complain with the tribunal lf disputes. I don't care about the few hundred dollars they scammed us, and the horrible experience but I'll.do everything in my power for them not to do it to anyone else! Just UNBELIEVABLE!
I hired a car from yes rentals and whilst in my care, the battery died twice within a 24 hour period. In order to be jumpstart, I have to pay $140 call out fee each time and was promised a refund given the battery was mechanically faulty however, Yes rentals Forged the report listing "radio left on" and "lights left on" to appear to be my fault instead and I was told rudely to "prove it" when claiming I did not do either of those things (if a car is turned off, then, how does one leave the radio on in the first place.... The radio turns off with the car!!!!) of the 7 day hire, the car was undriveable for 3 of those days and they couldn't have cared less. Joe who is the service fleet manager told me to "do it, I don't care" and laughed at me when I expressed my dissatisfaction and advised him I would lodge a dispute. For a fleet Manager, that's poorly and he should not have a job in customer service!
Don’t fall in the trap by hiring a car thru these thugs the worst rental company ever I came across you will be charged unexpectedly as they have your card details. worst staff very politely they will rip you off 😡😡😡very bad experience
They have good service and guys are kindly!
I rented a vehicle in December 2025 and was charged $1,500 at return for scratches to the left rear wheel well. I was told the damage would be properly appraised and I'd receive final documentation.
It has now been over two weeks with zero documentation provided despite multiple requests.
No invoice, no repair estimate, no photos of the damage—nothing. My credit card insurance cannot process my claim without proper documentation, leaving me out $1,500.
Their customer service acknowledged my request on December 18th, promised to send documents "promptly," and recommended I start my insurance claim. Since then: complete silence.
Warning to future renters: Based on my experience and other reviews mentioning similar issues, this appears to be a pattern. Take extensive photos/videos before AND after your rental. Consider using a different company if you want responsive customer service and transparent damage processes.
I'm now forced to dispute the charge with my credit card company and consider filing complaints with consumer protection authorities.
We have made a booking earlier on at our own country for a specific car model but to come here got forced to change to another car model which has a smaller car boot and still got informed that car price is the same but there was no transparency at all.
We were even informed that if we are not happy with the car condition, the only solution was to cancel the booking. After 5 minutes, the front desk informed us that they have another car model however price is higher than the one we’ve booked.
All solutions are somewhat forcing us to take the car with higher price or cancel the booking and sort for the solution ourselves.
Car was offered for inspection, what got us shocked was that the car condition looks like it is ready to be sent to waste car department for demolition. The car condition is that bad!
And this all seems like a norm in Yes rentals for gaining better profit.
1. Allow unavailable car for bookings
2. Force customer to take another car or cancel their own booking
3. Allow super old cars to still be on the road for long drive with unknown car conditions, neglecting customer’s safety
4. Totally dirty car with smell and car providers do not give a damn about it
Total scam and dangerous company!
In June 2025, I rented a car from YES RENTALS in New Zealand and was rear-ended on a public road. Under NZ traffic law, the trailing vehicle is clearly at fault. I submitted all evidence on the same day. Despite this, the company’s response was extremely dishonest.
The vehicle they gave me was a heavily used Toyota Aqua with over 160,000 km, and the damage from the incident was only a light scratch on the bumper. Yet at their office I was pressured to pay NZD 5,022.50, exceeding the NZD 4,900 excess. I was told it would be refunded if I was not at fault.
Later, during the credit-card investigation, I discovered that YES RENTALS had:
Falsely reported the public-road rear-end accident as a “motorway accident,” and
Claimed that I had submitted no evidence, although everything was sent immediately.
When I requested repair proof, they provided only a NZD 1,851.50 estimate, not confirmation of any actual repairs.
Most shocking was their attempt to shift blame onto me —
despite being the front vehicle that was hit from behind, they argued that I caused the accident by “not keeping enough distance.”
This claim makes no sense under any traffic law or logic.
They later proposed an offer:
“If you agree to treat the accident as a single-vehicle accident, we will refund NZD 3,171.”
This was an attempt to distort the facts and violates Visa's Core Rule 11.3.
Ultimately, after submitting additional proof that disproved their statements, my second chargeback was approved nearly six months after the incident.
Everything described here is factual and supported by documentation.
Travelers should exercise great caution when considering YES RENTALS.
I was very happy with my experience with Yes Rentals, they were the cheapest option I could find, the car was excellent and the pick up and drop off were seamless with no delays.
Do not use
A car hit our rental car while parked, had to pay Yes Rentals excess which is fair enough, but I had to chase the other insurance company and found they had paid two weeks prior, not sure if I’d ever be told if I hadn’t chased.
Then yes rentals charged us $60 administrative fee for an accident we didn’t cause! Disgusting!
Way better rental cars companies to use than this one.
