When Quicken abandoned MAC

When Quicken abandoned MAC, we looked around and found Moneyspire. It does 99% of what Quicken did. It has gotten a better each year. We are very satisfied with Moneyspire.

Once populated with people and things

Once populated with people and things, input can be quick and reliable. Reports continue to have limited success- there are no options to format report layouts for printing - what you get was set by Moneyspire - that turns into many extra pages. Graphics reports need to be expanded to help visualize trends - there is a lot of data that could be easily plotted and I’m hoping the next revision really opens this up.

Moved to Moneyspire over 12 months ago…

Moved to Moneyspire over 12 months ago from Acemoney where support & development was lacking. I had some initial teething problems with the download of portfolio prices but with the excellent support from Moneyspire they resolved the issue quickly. Great piece of software, easy to manage, good reports meeting all my needs.

Practical, easy-to-use accounting programme

For me, as a Money99 user for many years, Moneyspire is the ideal successor programme for my private bookkeeping. I had to buy a new PC because of Windows 11. Money99 no longer worked properly there. However, the data transfer to Moneyspire didn't work properly either. So now I simply have the old accounting data in Money99 on the old computer and the current data in Moneyspire on the new computer. I didn't have to get used to the new programme and that's very good.

Good, but room for improvement.

I've been using Moneyspire for a few years and it's pretty good for what I need it for. My needs aren't complicated, but I have quite a few accounts to keep track of. I would like it better if they added biometric authentication to the mobile app - this seems pretty basic, but they have not adopted this suggestion since I raised it for the past 2 releases. If they had biometric authentication, I'd probably rate it 4 starts. Likewise, it would be nice to have some way to order and group accounts on the sidebar. Given that they group by account type, I have suggested adding user defined account types, but no luck so far so I make do using the account types provided and a naming convention to create the order and groups I want. All in all, it's pretty good, but there is room for improvement. I have purchased the past 2 upgrades, but they really haven't improved the experience much as they are focused on features I don't use.

No assistance at all!

I have asked for assistance several times following an annoying bug related to the management of the wallet but I have never received any response. They are very prompt in collecting the price of the update but totally absent from the needs of the customer. Those who do not respect the customer, sooner or later, are destined to fail.

Sunscriptionware by Stealth

The program itself works well enough, but its subscriptionware by stealth. You buy a lifetime license for the current version, with support for a year. When the year runs out, your version is still (more or less) fully functional but there's a big red banner telling you to upgrade which can't be removed, and endless emails reminding you, despite my unsubscribing multiple times.

Great Replacement for Outdated Microsoft Money

I had to purchase a new laptop and unfortunately lost my "Microsoft 2004" program and data :-( I had lived by that for budgeting and tax reports since around 2004 if not sooner and was just devastated. I have the program Disk, however no operating system works with it and no laptops come standard with a CD drive these days. I was so excited to find MoneySpire which seems to be close enough to Microsoft Money for my current needs. WHEW!!!

The app is coming along nicely

The app is coming along nicely. I do notice that there are memory issues in doing batch changes where it takes ages to finish making changes. It might be inherent in the older interface that Moneyspire uses. Also, when one creates an export.qif, for every date, the debits come forth before the credits so that in the next financial app one imports that data, the Balance Column is in the red and one has to move the credits before the debits to correct the problem.

The program doesn't do the things you need

The program doesn't tell you what's be reconciled and what hasn't. It doesn't tell you the last reconciled balance or date it ended. You can't erase all reconciliation marks and start over. It's Jan 12, and I'm going to have to do it all in excel to finish for the year. I'm sorry I bought this program.

Should have stayed with Quicken!

I switched to Moneyspire 3-4 years ago, not being willing to continue Quicken on a yearly subscription basis, which I'd used and LOVED for many many years. I thought MS would be a one-time purchase, but nope, they bug the living daylights out of me to buy the next year's upgrade, which I did the first couple of times; but the price is going up and up and up every year, and I couldn't tell the slightest difference in the program after each new version purchase. Turns out it's the same as subscribing to Quicken, just given a different "name." I decided last year I'd coughed up all the money for this subpar program I was going to; now I'm forever stuck with a banner telling me my not-upgraded version is no longer supported and STILL getting a but*load of reminders to buy the latest VERY EXPENSIVE upgrade! If you love Quicken and think you're getting a comparable program with Moneyspire that you WON'T have to pay for every year, run, don't walk. They're playing you for a sucker!

Major bugs in calculation

Major bugs in calculation. Net worth and balance sheets double/triple count investment transactions resulting in inflated net worth and balance sheet asset totals. Customer support does not respond. I really miss Microsoft Money.

Customer service is Horrible

Customer service is bad. In August 2024 I prepaid for their 2025 Pro upgrade, scheduled for an October release. The Pro version includes Invoicing. First, I was not notified that the 2025 version was available, I had to ask and the next day I was provided with a link. None of the 3 download links sent, over a period of 2 weeks, resolved my problem. I was initially not provided the Pro version, subsequent links albeit Pro did not include Invoicing, which is what I paid for and hence was not resolved. They never asked a question, i always sent ..another link and none of the downloads fixed the issue. I assume Moneyspire is a very small company with limited support.
