Highly recommend. A very ethical company.
I am a 74 year old Australian. On 13/12/24 I took out a ‘Worldwide’ travel insurance policy with TID for 1/1/25 to 31/12/25. To date, I had no need to make a claim and being satisfied with the price and cover, and given that I travel widely and often, I decided to purchase the same policy for 2026.
On 1 December I called TID to renew my policy for another year only to discover that my current policy was not valid owing to a clause I had missed in the PDS (overseas resident & 35 day trip limit). This was my error. However, the agent, Lacey, I spoke with suggested that I could file a review requesting a partial refund - and she immediately sent me an email with a few simple instructions regarding submitting the review.
Today, I received an email from Lucy at TID saying that they had considered my case and would refund a substantial part of the costs of my policy ($967). The error was on my part and there was no legal obligation on TID to refund any money. This was simply an act of good faith on the part of TID which demonstrates a high level of ethics and integrity with respect to this company and its staff. Big thanks to Lacey and Lucy at TID - and TID. I highly recommend this company.

Claim paid quickly with no hassle
I've used TID many times but my trip in May 2023 was the first time I needed to claim. I had two car accidents in a hired car, one not my fault and one my fault. On return of the car, I obtained a detailed report of the damage from Avis and when home, submitted the report and explanations of the two incidents. Within a couple of weeks, after some emails for clarification, my claim was paid in full. I had the Works cover. I was so pleased that the claim was no hassle after reading some of the reviews on this site. I knew that detailed documentation would be needed so made sure to get this whilst in France. Very happy with TID
They don’t cover cancelled flights
I purchased travel insurance with TID to cover my yearly domestic and international travel, in case of any cancellations or list baggage.
So apparently, they do not cover an airline cancelling all flights due to voluntary administration (eg Bonza). Isn’t that what travel insurance is FOR…?
Seems pretty silly. And after reading the reviews here, I do wonder what they actually DO cover.
Avoid at all costs!
This company will do anything to weasel out of paying resonable claims. They have no care for the consumer. We became very sick on our honeymoon and had to return home and they wouldn’t cover our flights. They went to the length of paying a external mediation company $1500 in fees to deal with our complaint rather than paying us the $1700 that was owed for the flights. Disgraceful!

They don’t honour flight cancellation because the airline quoted “crew issues”.
This is the most misleading travel insurance companies. Why else do we get insurance if not to cover flight cancellations and injury? Do not recommend. Don’t want to imagine what would happen if you needed to make a serious claim with them.
Don't waste money on cancellation cover
You would think cancellation cover would cover Jetstar cancelling your international flights and having to pay for new ones to be able to travel right? I mean that's why you buy it. Its marketed as "cancellation cover" right? So it would be reasonable to assume that it would cover getting your flights cancelled by your airline yeah? Nope... Sucked in. Read the fine print. After waiting almost 3 months for a response on my claim I find out cancellation cover is next to worthless - it really only covers natural disasters, jury duty, or your work cancelling your leave. Ie. next to useless. Don't waste your money paying insurers for something they basically won't assist with people.
The worst experience with an insurance company I've ever had
DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME, ENERGY AND MONEY!!!! I've been trying to claim my cancelled Europe trip since JUNE due to being physically assaulted. we had "the works " cover and have recieved nothing back from TID at this point they won't even reply to our emails and didn't even pay the full amount of my hospital fees??? their emergancy assistance team couldn't even give us a straight answer at the time of the incident leaving us stuck in budapest for almost a week as i was unfit to fly. Dealing with this company has made the most traumatic experience of my life 100x worse. 0/10 will never use again.

I would think twice before placing an order on the site. The company has yet to refund my account which I had request several times. We all know its pandemic however the processing of refund should not take a month..

Complete Waste of Money
I chose to go with Travel Insurance Direct (TID) for my trip through Central and South America in 2019. I decided to go with them because they had competitive pricing, however I later learnt why they are a cheaper choice. Unfortunately while in Peru I had all of my most important personal belongings stolen from my accommodation. Although many of the items were completely irreplaceable, I had some small peace of mind knowing I had travel insurance. I was wrong to let this give me any peace of mind. Never in my life have I ever experienced such poor customer service. I experienced huge delays in responses to my emails (sometimes months), they spelt my name wrong, they requested documentation for a medical condition which I did not have and was not claiming for which later turned out to be another careless mistake made by the claims officer, part of my offer was calculated using the incorrect currency, my phone calls were completely ignored on multiple occasions and worst of all I was offered as little as 25% cover for my items. I would have been better off saving the money I spent on insurance. They also dragged my claim out for well over a year. If you actually want to be covered when you travel I would strongly recommend against TID!
I have insured with TID for years
I have insured with TID for years. Wrote twice to Travel Insurance Direct earlier this year, due to COVID related issues, on their website messaging system. The second time was 13 April 2020. Still have not received a reply to either message and it is now December 2020. Not even a "no". Will not be using Travel Insurance Direct ever again and have made sure to tell my friends of this experience.
A very dodgy company. Stay clear
As part of the Covid outbreak we had to cancel our travel and we claimed through TID. It took months for them to assess the claim. Every few weeks they would ask for a new document and we provided every single one requested. Finally months after the claim was approved they wrote saying that the money would be paid within 3-5 business days. Its been weeks and every week when I call them they keep giving me a new excuse as to why it is not paid. I am still waiting to be paid. Terrible organisation. Stay clear

Do not use travel insurance direct. My flight was cancelled due to covid 19, which was out of my control. I brought my insurance before covid 19 happened and they flatly refuse to refund my money.
Fast Claims Proess…
I am very impressed at the fast customer service I received when I submitted my travel claim. My travel companion fell & broke both wrists which meant we had to cancel our holiday to Vietnam about 6 weeks prior to our planned departure. After submitting my claim which was during the middle of COVID19 my claim was processed in less than 3 weeks. I received a complete refund minus my excess. I did ensure I had any questions answered by the claims team prior to submitting my detailed supporting documents. This definitely helped the team assess the claim. One very happy customer!

Great travel insurance
I have always used them as they have competitive prices for a comprehensive insurance with no need to claim. Recently, I submit a claim as I was unable to travel due to ill health. The claim process was straightforward and they reimbursed the cost of the trip with no issues. Definitely will keep using them as my travel insurance.
