SpaMedica is one of the leading providers of NHS eye patient services and, in 2018, we became the largest NHS cataract surgery provider in the UK. Beyond cataract surgery, other NHS ophthalmology services offered include treatments for Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD) and Posterior Capsule Opacification (PCO), which is treated through a procedure known as YAG laser capsulotomy.

Had my cataract op 2 years ago at SpaMedica. Was seen within a few weeks of referral and had first eye op a week later. 2 years later I have PCO in both eyes and am almost blind in one eye. The post operation service for this has been well short of the previous service. 2 months waiting list for an assessment then they cancelled the appointment with 2 days notice …… a disaster. I would recommend your local hospital eye clinic.
Wonderfully friendly caring and informative staff and professionals
As a NHS patient I received a ‘basic’ lens which was explained to me would hopefully restore my distance vision
Can you imagine my delight when the following morning after the cloudy lens had cleared and I could see details in the distance I had not seen for years
To my amazement I could read text perfectly down to 10 point
A size previous to the procedure I could not read with my reading glasses
I can’t wait to get my other eye done
I can highly recommend SpaMedica to anyone looking for professional painless surgery

Great result, I don’t have to rely on my golf buddies to spot my ball since my cataract operation. Seamless process at SpaMedica, great staff throughout the process and a fabulous result, driving after 3 days as reading a numberplate at 25 yards is a breeze now. Can’t wait to get the other eye done
Pleasant experience today at SpaMedica, who performed cataract surgery on my right eye. The whole experience from the initial visit / assessment to surgery today has been first class. ALL of the staff have been polite / respectful & helpful. Have nothing but praise for the whole team….. Thank you all
I attended Derby Spamedica for my 2nd cataract operation, I can honestly say from being greeted at reception to meeting the surgeon the staff were kind, helpful and reassuring. Everything was explained about the procedure, the surgeon was excellent, he said I had been a good boy and gave me a sticker haha! Would definitely recommend Spamedica Derby

Excellent treatment and care from this close knit team in Birmingham. Went through quickly for this second cataract op, without feeling rushed. Highly recommended.

I was amazed at how quickly I was seen after my referral for cataract surgery. I was given a full explanation of what to expect during the surgery and afterwards.
The surgery itself was painless. I didn't think I would be able to lie still or keep my eye focused but they made it simple and comfortable. Staff were all very helpful and took all my queries seriously. Nobody can believe, least of all me, that there has been no pain and only minimal discomfort ( some more related to the heatwave than the surgery I think).
I had a small issue with my drops but collected a replacement bottle in an hour from calling them.
I cannot believe how clear my vision is in that eye.
Now, although my other eye is judged to be only slightly affected, I can really see how clouded my vision has been.

From the time I arrived at SpaMedica, I was helped to settle in and feel at ease in every way, checks to see if I felt ok, with the option of tea and coffee, should I wish. When the main procedure started all the staff were attentive and kind, at no point did I feel the slightest pain or worry. The end result is amazing I can barely describe just how wonderfull it is. Thank you so much SpaMedica.

Never been treated like a sack of potatoes before.
Unpleasant with no consideration, warmth or kindness - just processed on a conveyor belt in a production line.
From nurses to surgeon the same behaviour, a robot would have been more pleasant.
All very efficient, but the Wokingham site just treats you as an object in a system that does not consider the patient as a person. I fear it is just a money making machine. The 8 minute cataract operation in my 3 hour visit was smooth and clinical.
For instance when I asked if I could ask a question, she said "no - just listen to me"!
I was cold in the air-con but not allowed to wear my fleece for the 2 hours before the op. We had to wait silently in separate stalls which stopped us talking together, but then we were sacks of potatoes so that was to be expected.
What was interesting was the complete change in colour of things, especially an orange to red shift between the 2 eyes. I can now understand how Monet's work changed a century ago because of his cataracts.
Overall an anger making experience, but a good result (I think).
Not up to the standards and care of the NHS.

my visit to spamedica birmingham was my second time to complete the treatment for both eyes, again the staff at reception were very efficient and professional and the check in was completed swiftly.the pre op nursing staff were excellent as before and after a short wait and eye drops etc made ready for my procedure. The surgeon again verified my details before operating, and l was out very quickly , the post op nurse explained everything l needed to know in detail before departure. l found my visit went very smoothly and non stressful and rate the service l got EXCELLENT thank you to all concerned Brian Russell

I had an unexpectedly great experience.
I was very nervous/scared - someone was going to do surgery on my eye while I was awake! The staff, from reception to the surgeon and all the nurses in between were all excellent care givers. Every step was explained. All my questions preempted and answered. I felt no pain during the procedure, some feat considering the surgeon peeled away a cataract and replaced a lens! Apart from a little pressure and my anxious discomfort, it went very well and I have no residual fear/anxiety at having my other eye done in 6 weeks.
I had a little gritty feeling in the evening which was sorted with a couple of pain killers. 2 days later and using prescribed drops, no discomfort at all. I can expect clearer vision in about about 7 days.
The place itself is very clean and Spa-like with a small amount of designated parking, which was a great help.

The whole experience was amazing. The staff were very helpful andlooked after me very well.I was naturally afraid,ie(the idea of someone poking about in ones eyes🥹was scary to say the least)Lots of waiting around for various duties the nurses etc had to perform but I didnt find it a problem as me and other patients were all in the same boat. The actual op.despite my fears was for me painless.Bit of very light prodding and an amazing flashing lights display.Reminded me of my youth in 60s all psychedelic. As I say I was very impressed with whole experience.Eye was bit itchy and the drops you get to use after op.do sting a bit for couple of minutes then it wears off.Thankyou Spamedica for all you have done.Cant wait to get second eye done.😁

I was made to feel at ease straight away, I felt totally comfortable the entire time.
Helen, Lottie, Dan, Jo, Tracey and Sam were all amazing at their jobs, allowing me to relax and stay calm during a stressful procedure! The Dr was especially good.

A very professional service given to me by friendly & experienced staff who explained everything they were doing. I was given the opportunity to ask any questions.
The surgery went smoothly & easy to follow instructions once home. Explained what to expect & how to use the drops.
All has gone well so far & I can now see clearly in the operated eye. I look forward to having my second eye done by SpaMedica shortly. I would definitely recommend to others.
