I had a £99 appraisal which recommended new discs and pads for the front to remove a brushing noise, so begrudgingly I opted for the new pads and discs option. 2 days later the mechanic turns up and is a nice lad and takes the car for a test drive says he can just about hear the issue. And says will look into why the issue is occurring before doing the work. I go inside and before I know it the work has been done anyway, the lad says he cannot hear the issue post adding new discs and brake pads, but adds the caveat that if it comes back to take it back to the previous garage which I know isn't the cause of the problem. So the mechanic goes and I take it for a test drive and low and behold the noise is still there. So I've spent £420 for absolutely nothing!

Number one, why is he taking my car out on his own, insurance risk but seemed oblivious to that, number 2 the issue clearly was still there but said couldn't hear it, but because I'm not on the pre or post test drives, he can say anything he likes.

I don't see the point of supposed experts coming out when all they are bothered about is fulfilling standard orders, like brake pads and discs, which evidently totally misses the mark. The service isn't cheap and it's clearly no use to anyone when a mechanic doesn't find the fault and recommends expensive work which is not the cause of the issue.

I'll say the two lads that came out were pleasant and are probably forced to sell a package to you, but I fail to see the point of a diagnosis and implementation that were both flat out wrong and hugely expensive!

The car broke down with a defective injector, we were recovered and bought home by the RAC. The rescue went well. The mechanic who bought us home mentioned RAC at home mechanics and I asked for a quote and a link to book. After checking with the garage which normally services the car, they said that the price was fair and that they could not fix the problem until September, so I booked with RAC for the following Monday. I paid the extra to have an early booking. Before the day I received plenty of texts keeping me informed and on the day received a text to let me know the mechanic, Max, was on the way. The repair was very simple for me. I gave Max the key and about two hours later he rang the doorbell and gave me the key back, car fixed. I would use RAC home mechanics again, it is a simple, stress free way of repairing a problem with the car.

Mechanic was professional and fast called ten mins before arrival much appreciated! Finished the work in 15 mins! Incredibly quick.

Mis diagnosed my problem with the breakdown, paid £620 up front to get the parts , which was not needed as wasn't right diagnosed.
Now I have to wait 8 weeks for refund.

The engineer was Bradlee and he was very friendly and helpful, text to check address before arrival and was told when he was coming, all done in good time, I was very happy with the whole service!
