My copy of the new "Musicality" book arrived today... what an eye-opener! For several years, I've been delightedly playing around in ear training and beginning-improv units of the Musical-U website. Musical-U helps you discover and shape your musical goals and explore routes through the Website that will build toward those goals. But, until I began paging through this book in my lap, I had not appreciated just how broad and comprehensive that material is. Seeing it all laid out like an abundant smosgasbord in the pages of the 'Musicality' book feels like an open invitation!

If you always longed to play music but gave up after struggling with scales, metronomes and fierce music teachers - then Musical U is just the perfect place for you. It's a great chance to pick it all up again but starting over from a different place.
Moving over from intermediate level violin to playing Scottish and Irish fiddle I have longed to break away from needing to have the printed music in front of me. So I have been working on units to develop playing by ear and improvising, as I wanted to take part in sessions: and yes, it's actually happening!
Whatever your level you're just going to work on making it better. Masses of material on line so you can do it at your own pace. Meanwhile there is a large community all over the world so you can join in chats with fellow travellers if you want to. It's a great way to move forward: give it a go!

My experience with Musical U for the 1 year I was a subscriber was overall a great journey however I did find the second year's renewal cost to be too much to mostly repeat the same material. Another premium option was available but at a much higher cost (almost double if my memory serves me well) but thought it was already a bit on the expensive side as it stood so decided to cancel my ongoing subscription.

I love the quality of the classes, the philosophy, and the access to instructor feedback. The online conversations of the community are often highly educational on top of the coursework itself.
I often feel turned off by the marketing style. That’s my biggest complaint.

I continue to achieve my goals thanks to the excellent material on musical-u. I especially benefit from Next Level coaching.

Well written book with many practical ideas for improving musicianship. The ideas can be used by anyone regardless of level of musical experience. The organization clearly cares deeply about enabling all readers to deepen their relationship with music.

Musical U is a holistic musicality learning community, with capable and attentive staff, helpful and supportive fellow student members, and a lot of great programs and learning materials.
My experience there, over the last eight years, has done wonders to help me get traction in various areas of my musicianship where I had been spinning my wheels, somewhat, for decades.
I'm finally coming to fruition as a musician!

It is very comprehensive but it can be hard to keep up unless you are prepared to devote a lot of time to it.
There are many support mechanisms and possibilities to join in with learning experiences. It depends on your availability and commitment.

The resources on the Musical-U website are extensive, comprehensive, constantly improving, based on the teachers' experience and the latest research It's about building musicality in the sense of helping you understand how music "works",, explore and develop a vibrant musical life. Fun is important. Rapid feedback to questions, an active, diverse supportive community. The main problem is the abundance of material: it takes time to explore and find what you want/need.

This is about learning music over just basic instrument technique.
This program teaches you to be a musician not just mechanical skills on one particular instrument, it carries over to anything you want to do with music.
I wish I'd learned these things years ago. The founder just released a book that I think should be required reading in music schools and universities.

It opened up my mind to the links to theory and musical learning from ear training to interval and solfedge learning

I have been working through Musical U's Living Music programme over the past 9 months. It is engaging; interactive; carefully designed to build on what has come before with lots of attention to adult learning principles; self-paced and offers ongoing learning support.
I initially wanted to take piano lessons. Living Music is so much broader than lessons on a single instrument, growing me as a musician and using my instrument to do that.
I love what they do and how they go about it!

Musical-U acheives a great balance of individual attention and online practices, using a variation of the superb Kodaly method for learning music. I recommend it highly.

MusicalU is absolutely amazing! I had been trying to find a music program that supported my instrument practice and also helped me to learn how music works in a cohesive, easy to understand way. Musical U has done both & I look forward to getting on the site to listen to Masterclasses, learn about music theory in a fun way & to improve my practice. In my 1 month with MusicalU I've learned more & improved my practice more than in years of trying to "do" music on my own or with instrument teachers! Do yourself a favour if you love music, want to get better at understanding music, or want to improve your music practice - get on MusicalU!!

I learned some things I didn't get before. Such as the Circle of 5ths and 4th. I also am more comfy with knowledge of Pentatonic scale and how to use it to make melodies. And today I got my Musicality Book! It's as big as a dictionary! I was sooo surprised. Can't wait to crack it open, starting with the intro like you suggested.

I have been part of Musical U for a few years. I had bought a number of stand alone courses, before becoming a member, for me it was a good way to get to know the teaching style and quality of information. I have found the teaching style very engaging - they have regular, wonderful teachers as well as a large number of interesting, inspiring working musicians, specialists in their fields giving courses and master-classes. Everyone i have met i have learnt something - or many things - from, and really enjoyed the process. Their teaching is well structured, with a variety of short courses and classes, and longer programmes, covering theory and technique. All are enjoyable!
I have found that the teaching and admin teams respond quickly to enquiries and any difficulties - ever helpful.
Musical U is building a community, and helps, and encourages members to feel a part of it. Their live catch up zooms, the weekly updates, and following comments and feedback as i progress through courses are great to be part of.
I am not a professional musician, but a keen amateur, and I find this encouraging, and building my knowledge and skill has given me confidence.

Musical U has given me inspiration to play with music. Put me in contact with clever music teachers. Shown me the power that mistakes offer. Introducing me to Super Learning and retaining a beginners midd set.
