GREASY FORCED FEES FOR TRADE
While I'll admit the buying process is smooth. They will scam you in a trade. For example on a quote of $26,000 for your trade they want a 5% or $1300. A fee to buy your car! If you were to sell your car on your own there wouldn't be a fee, but I guess they feel they can charge you for the privilege of reselling your car at a higher price lol. They then add in the tax savings and say they are giving you $29,600 to create the illusion they are giving you more (keep in mind the $1300 fee is subtracted off this)
But it gets worse. They then they force you to add their essential package if you want to trade for one of their vehicles. This adds $2100 (after tax) to the cost of the vehicle you are looking to buy from them for a whopping $3400 total in fees. 14% tax on 26000 is $3600 so you really have no reason to bother selling to Clutch. If you are trading a cheaper vehicle the fees could be higher than the tax savings.
The quote was essentially the same as I got from multiple dealers. Also I suspect they will scrutinize your trade closely and look for any reason to deduct value once they have it.
Finally you may have 10 days to return the car you traded for but if you trade your vehicle I've heard you have no way to get your original car back if you choose to back out of the deal.
Harassed to Sell
I contacted Clutch for an estimate on my car. Everything was fine until I put the sale on hold due to personal reasons. I was clear on when I would be interested in selling again. But during the 4 week break I was "nagged" on numerous occasions about selling my vehicle. To the point that I went elsewhere to sell my car when I was ready.

Excellent experience from starr to finish. Online portion was user friendly and easy to navigate. When it came time to deal with advisors they were pleasant and professional and made the next steps easy to understand and complete. The in-store advisors were amazing! So helpful and attentive. This was by far the easiest sale of a vehicle I have ever completed.

The whole experience was very quick for selling my car. An offer was made and I had several days to think about it. Within in that time period, all other options for selling my car online were much lower or refused because the vehicle was made in 2011, had over 200,000km and some exterior damage. Clutch offered a firm price, even with an older well used car, which gave me peace of mind. So I booked an appointment for Drop-Off at the Mississauga location the same day. Right afterwards, I got a call to confirm. Once arriving, the Mississauga location is beautiful and looks more like a tech company than a car dealership. We met Lovepreet, who was absolutely wonderful! She greeted us warmly and explained that there would be a quick inspection of the vehicle and we can have a seat in the lounge and enjoy some complimentary coffee and snacks while we wait. About 10mins later, the inspection was complete and Lovepreet said everything was great with the vehicle and the condition was exactly as I described. Then we proceeded with the sale, while in the lounge, which was a quick and smooth process. Lovepreet was so professional and answered all of our questions honestly and with a warmth and kindness I’ve never experienced at a traditional car dealership. Once everything was signed, I was given back my licence plates and was provided a $30 uber voucher which was more than enough to get us home. While waiting for the uber, I realized the money was already deposited into my account! A+ for the whole experience and a big thanks to Clutch!
I spent months researching vehicles and…Disappointing Experience with Clutch – Hidden Costs, Limited Options, and Poor Customer Service
I spent months researching vehicles and was finally ready to buy from Clutch, but the experience was disappointing.
The biggest issue was discovering near the end of the transaction that if I wanted to use my trade-in to offset the sales tax, I would be required to purchase a $1,799 and or more on warranty package. This package included a 3-month warranty on a vehicle that already has 3–4 years of factory warranty remaining, making it of NO value to me.
When I decided not to trade in my vehicle to avoid the package, I was then told I would have to pick up the car in Mississauga, despite being previously informed that Ottawa delivery and Bayshore pickup were available. For Ottawa buyers, a 400 km drive home also makes the advertised 10-day/750 km return policy much less useful.
Another concern was being required to use Flinks to verify funds by providing online banking credentials. I offered to pay with a bank draft in full, but that option was refused.
Customer service was also disappointing. Rather than answering specific questions, I was repeatedly directed back to information already available in the inspection report and carfax - very frustratring.
Overall, the process felt geared toward financing and add-on sales rather than helping cash buyers complete a straightforward purchase. After reaching the final stages ready to buy, I ultimately walked away and will return to purchasing from local dealerships.

My brother-in-law was looking to by a car but the dealer was willing to give him zero money for a trade and would scrap it. I turned to Clutch and they gave him $1400. HOW DO YOU BEAT THAT? Great experience. Dealer later told him they can never match Clutch dollar for dollar. Case closed.
