I am raising a dispute with this company ‘HP Checkmycar’ (also trading as Checkmycar). I had paid for their service online for what I thought was an initial sum of £5.95. However, it was not made clear that by proceeding with the payment I would also pay for a monthly subscription of £39.90 two days later. I had not received any correspondence by email to confirm payment nor received any correspondence to say they had taken payment of the subscription for £39.90....no trace is how this company seems to operate, so please be very careful. I have tried to contact them on their number and by email and no response. I have also notified my bank about this company and they are dealing with this.

Absolute deceptions, please refrain from purchasing anything from these websites. I remitted £5.95 in March 2025, and they subsequently withdrew £39.90 in April 2026, with an attempt to debit more in May 2026 from my account. I reached out to them following the April payment, but received no response to my correspondence. I have since contacted the Bank, which has flagged them as fraudulent within their system, and I have also notified authorities.

Like a lot of other people have said, this company is unscrupulous, bordering on fraudulent. AVOIDED AT ALL COSTS. I have been charged £39.90 without knowledge. I’m disputing payment and will have to cancel my card.

Unexpected charge on a credit card led me to these reviews.
I can see from other reviews that people seem to have done a check on a vehicle and then been hit with a subscription charge, however, that’s not the case for us.
We have never used this service or even entered any details and yet a payment of £39 odd was taken in April. The same amount was just attempted again but the credit card company blocked it thankfully. If this hadn’t happened we wouldn’t have even noticed!
We have now frozen the card and flagged the previous payment as fraudulent because there is no way of us knowing how this company got the card details.
People beware. As the payment was taken it proves that checks are not being completed.

Checked one car with this company for £5.99 and it has so far cost me just over £200. I have contacted them through their contact us portal but they continue to take money from my account. I understand that their small print says you have to cancel subscription within 48hrs but it is well hidden. I am still trying to get them to stop taking money from my account and wouldn't go near this company. I am an OAP battling cancer and just dont know what to do. Just an update to say Checkmycar Ireland has refunded 5 payments of £39.90 which had been taken from my bank. I am really grateful to the company but wonder if they should make the cancellation criteria more obvious .

Like everyone else, I experienced the same problem. They stole money from my account, and I reported the issue to them. They stated in an email that no further payments would be taken and that my money would be refunded. However, the following month, they stole money from my account again. I sent emails numerous times again. I think the thieves are trying to distract us. I'll need to find the appropriate authorities to report this to.

Along with most of the other 1,760 1-star reviewers, I was misled by this company's website into signing up to a time-unlimited subscription for £39 per month after receiving what I had intended to be a single vehicle report. My UK bank were aware of this recurring scam and have refunded the last payment. The Irish Trading Standards authorities, CCPC.ie, under whose jurisdiction this company operates, have been made aware of this clear example of business malpractice.
Postscript ...checkmycar's responses are factually incorrect, at least three payments of £39.90 have been taken from my bank card. I'd be happy to engage more on this forum if checkmycar undertakes to refund those payments.

I have very dissappointing experience with this company.
I paid £5.95 for a car check report, and at no point was it made clear that I was signing up for any kind of subscription.
A few days later, I was unexpectedly charged nearly £40 without my knowledge or consent.
Look how they are stealing money from people! Unacceptable. I should have read the reviews before using their service.

Unfortunately this company runs a subscription scam.
When you download a report (access for first time) the 'small print' (and I mean small) signs you up (within exp of 48 hours) to a monthly subscription of £39.90.
Don't go anywhere near them, there are plenty of honest Car Checking services who are plain about this and only charge a one off.
BE WARNED OF THIS COMPANY.

If i could put 0 i would. Avoid at all costs
They charged £5.95 and then the next day tried to get £39.90 claiming i had signed up for a subscription
Luckily Barclays are aware of this scam company and blocked the payment.

Pretty much what everyone else is saying. Paid for the initial car check and thought that was it. I have now realised that 3 further payments of £39.90 have been taken from my account. On trying to cancel it appears I don't have an account as my email is not recognised. So how can I cancel a subscription that I don't have??!!
Please avoid at all costs.

The report on the vehicle is very comprehensive and perfectly happy with it for a £5.95 one off payment, no trial period or membership was subscribed to nor appears as part of the information on my android device as I stood at the dealership checking the vehicle out. 3 Days later I'm charged again, this time £39.90 on 22/04/2026 without any explanation nor had I subscribed to any service or bought another vehicle report. I bought a one off vehicle check for £5.95 and paid then and there (18/04/2026)!
It's very sharp practice and pretty disgusting really. Given this taking additiinal funds without any consent i could not reccomend checkmycar which is a shame given the decent vehicle report. I cannot get past them taking money using my debut card info without my permission. Be careful who you give card details to. Lesson learned...

If I could put zero I would. Despite having rung up and emailed several times to cancel this subscription (that I didn't want in the 1st place) you have taken a 3rd payment from my credit card. Avoid this fraudulent company like the plague. They have taken £120 off me for a service I used once to check a new car.

SCAM! SCAM! SCAM!
Ditto to all the reviews about this company.
Information on the website is not clear; Google should stop these types of websites from running!

Another 1 star review, we had £39.90 taken from our account today without permission. I've tried calling them and filling in the online contact form to complain. I've logged in but no account details or settings, no subscription details and no terms and conditions. I'll be calling my bank on Monday and reporting this as fraud activity

I had the same experience as most of the people who have written reviews regarding this company. I purchased a single car check for £5.95 on 17th March 2026. The company tried to take £39.90 from my bank account. The payment was declined as I only use this account for small payments and there were insufficient funds. After reading reviews on Trustpilot I realised I was being charged for a subscription which I did not sign up for. I emailed the company to advise that I did not subscribe and thought this would rectify the situation but the company have again tried to take another payment today of £39.90 (8th April 2026) so from 17th March 2026 they have tried twice to take this payment. I have blocked payments now and advised my bank as to why. Would just like to say to anyone who pays for a single car check - BEWARE - Hp Checkmycar will try and take recurring payments of £39.90 from your account EVEN after advising them that you do not wish to subscribe. Absolutely disgraceful.

Absolute scam artists, ripped me off for £39 a month after I bought a one off car check, clearly small print con artists relying on people not reading hidden terms, AVOID
