Just like the rest of the victims. They signed me up to a monthly subscription of £39.90 I wasn't aware of, until I seen 2 months of payments taken from my bank. No email notifications of subscription or payments taken. The subscription is purposely well hidden on their website to trick customers into there deceitful practices. If they were genuine, they would actually take action on customer reviews and actually amend their website to make it much much clearer, regarding monthly subscriptions. Of course that hasn't been done as this is how they are making their money by bad ethics and morals. Shameful.
Their email responses seems generic. Using "dear customer", not even using my name. Never heard back from them when I requested a refund. Do not use.

Paid a one off payment of 5.95 to check my car. A day later they tried to take 39.90 out of my bank, only for the bank informing me they had put a stop on the card I wouldn't have known. I phoned the company and asked why they had done this, she said it was an automatic subscription because I had made the 5.95 payment. She was all made up with herself when she said she had cancelled it (big wow as I didn't sign up for it in the first place) told her it was a big scam to which she said "no it isnt" and put the phone down. Stay AWAY from this company. Its theft in a legal way. If I could have given it 0 I would have done as the don't even deserve the 1. Be warned and read all the reviews

I’ve been scammed by this company they are sharks and don’t deserve to be running a company

This scum of a company charged my card for £39.90, I've never used this website ever, put in every single email address I own to see if there was some sort of subscription linked to this website, of course not a single email has been used with the company.
They tried to charge my card for the exact same amount on 24th Jan 2025 but under the company name CHECKMYCAR1. Obviously I've disputed with my card and will be refunded
But everyone needs to know this company is full of fraudsters that are sold stolen card details from a third party, police investigation pending on these lot.
EDIT
Ignore the automated robotic replies, no email address was used on their platform, or they’re malicious and clear account history which you will notice from several other negative reviews.
You scammed the wrong person!

Scammers
They subscribe you to a monthly payment without clearly informing you of this.

Please be careful with this website. It's a scam. Takes your details and takes money of your card. Wipes everything off. Luckily I had a good protection to alert me on time and stopped it.
Do not buy their £5 car checker, it's cheap for a reason

I am having the same problem as everyone that appears to be using this site. They charge an initial small fee then hammer you with charges each month. If you are not diligent this can amount to a substantial sum AND THEY WILL NOT REFUND. i will avoid using them again.

Scam scam scam!!! They will charge you one time payment of 5.95 then couple days later take 39.90, they are very sly dishonest and sneaky, they don’t know make it clear you will be paying a subscription after, they might act innocent after but trust me they know what they doing, they are scamming! After asking for a refund I was refused one. Don’t now use this dishonest service!!!! There’s plenty other websites who are genuine, avoid avoid avoid, scammers!

This is a very misleading service . It is not made clear that after a single payments £5.95 for a car history check that you must to unsubscribe or you will be automatically be paying £39.90 per month on a rolling basis .
Highly irregular and scam orientated website .
This is a total disgrace that this Company can be allowed to run a ‘service’ that is intentionally misleading and sets out to ‘trap ‘ people into a regular monthly payment of £39.90 .
I will seeking a full refund of the 10 payments that have been taken from my account under false pretences from the company and then seeking full redress via my credit card and bank
I will then be contacting Which magazine and Martin Lewis if I do not get a satisfactory resolution from this company

You pay a fee of £5.95 to receive a report which never arrives and then unknowingly are signed up to a monthly payment of £39.90. This is completely unclear on the website and there is no warning via another forms of communication. The first you will know is when a payment is taken from your account.
I have contacted to the company for a refund and to stop any further payments but hold little hope this will happen. To stop further payments I will have to cancel my card and order a new one.
For over 1700 people to have the same issue is not a problem with the consumer misunderstanding. It is a deliberate pricing strategy which is completely immoral and likely not legal.
They claim to be a UK based company, yet the payments are from Dublin which is not UK.. probably a further tax avoidance/scrutiny scam.
Even in their own description on this Trust pilot page they claim the payment should by £29.90 so they can't even get their story straight.
In short do not use them!

My bank contacted me yesterday to ask if I was awear of bank transactions for £39.90 to check my car, I was not unfortunately I've been consumed with my terminally ill husband who's now sadly passed away.
Unbeknown to me they have been taking the grand sum of £39.90 OUT of my account since 20th sept 2024 they have taken £644.35 out of my account, yes i should have checked my account but my minds been all over the place, I'm absolutely deversted to find this out, i had no idea that I had supposedly signed up for a subscription, I HAS NOT there was nothing obvious that there was a subscription of £39.90 a month after paying the £5.98, I did not agree to this, I have also tried to log in only to see there's nothing activated and my email address is not recognised.
Who in there right mind would want to subscribe to paying £39.90 a month FOR WHAT ???, I've been sent no emails,no news letters, no offers, iv had zero services to warrant a fee of £39.90 a month, therefore all I can see is this is pure extortion of vaunrable unsuspecting people, I know this is the case from reading review after review about the same devious practice happening to everyone who uses this site.
I HAVE CONTACTED THERE CUSTOMER SERVICE who has said they will pass my information onto there accounts.
I waiting on a full refund,or I will take serious further action. I am very upset, and very angry.
My husbands death was sudden, my finances are thin on the ground, what this company is doing is very wrong. THERE SUBSCRIPTION IS NOT MADE CLEAR.
And we all know why, from the amout of people that are getting caught out, this must be making this company millions of the back of vaunrable people.

Same experience as everyone else, you pay for a report then get signed up to a random subscription, I've tried contacting them on several occasions but I just get ignored.
It doesn't clearly mention that you get signed up to a subscription and charges you separately from your report in an attempt to hid it, very dodgy
Now disputing through the bank

24/01/25 - UPDATE
After contacting checkmycar over the phone they agreed to a refund which I have now received.
Like a lot of other people I paid for a £5.95 car check and then was surprised to see £39.90 debited from my account.
I immediately contacted checkmycar through their contact us page then followed it up with an email asking them to cancel the subscription and issue a refund as I did not want the subscription.
I received a reply stating their T&C's are on the website and therefore they would not issue a refund and then asking me again if I wanted to cancel my subscription which I have done.
I even created an account using the email I used for the car check but when I login I cannot see the car check I paid for that they sent a link for (that no longer works) and there is no mention of a subscription.
I would urge anyone doing car checks to be extremely careful with this company as it was not obvious to me that I was signing up to a subscription service and I still can't see that I have signed up to one. The only evidence is £39.90 being debited from my card.
Update: I have spoken to checkmycar this morning and they have agreed to issue a refund within 7 days. I will update further once I receive the refund.

I purchased a vehicle check for £5.95, believing it was a one‑off payment.
Shortly after, a £39.90 subscription charge was applied without my clear consent.
When I logged into my account, there was no clear or accessible option to cancel the subscription — the only option was to download the report.
I have disputed the charge with my bank, and the subscription has now been cancelled.
I am sharing this to warn other consumers to check carefully before signing up, as the pricing and cancellation are not transparent.

Once again im a victim used these for a car check paid £5.95 thinking this was a one time payment, only to find out they take a futher £39.90 off my card three days later unknown that when you use their website you sign up to a subscription as the 1st payment is only for two days , then your subscription starts, it does not stat this on the website if it does most people dnt see it , just think they are paying this one off payment , yes i have emailed them asking to cancel and refund me and i also called them only to be told this £39.90 isn't refundable , but on here they have said they have refunded people, after you call them they will tell you its being handed to the payments team and will either call you back or email you , this is , we shall wait the 48hrs , if no call back or email, i shall be calling again, also i raised a complaint with my bank to try a get it returned.. not happy with this company

Exactly as others have said. This company is commiting fraud and luckily it was picked up by my bank. I was charged £5.95, I did NOT sign up to monthly charge of £39.90! This is fraud, do not use them.

Barclaycard disputes team are dealing with the matter.
I also blame Google, as a search for Carvertical, brings up this company instead at the top of the listings.
This feels like a scam that should have been stopped by now.
