A very thorough eye test and pleasurable experience having my eyes tested at Boots, Havant. Made to feel very welcome by all the team members.

Went to book an appointment and was offer one in 30 mins, so no need to return with good service throughout.

Very thorough eye test. Knowledgeable and professional optician. All the staff are helpful and friendly. Would definitely recommend.

Optician was amazing, really took her time examining and explained things well.
The lady showing the glasses was very patient and explained the different types of lenses/glasses taking her time not to rush me.
Definitely a very high 5*

Haywards Heath branch - Somehow my eye-test appointment time was hijacked for another customer. Ordinarily, this would not have mattered, but I had another appointment that day. I asked the assitant to help recover some time by doing selection and pricing before the eye test. This seemed like too much trouble for her. Admittedly, my request was complex - reglazing varifocals; new varifocal sunglasses; adding reading glasses - but she was unwilling actually to run prices for me, instead guesstimating likely prices (!). This did not work for me, and extra complexity was added by the mind-boggling system of pricing options and interacting (or not!) discounts. Still, this was a high-priced combo and I'd expect a bit more enthusiasm and care from the seller. I decided to abandon the entire process. And I can't end without commenting on the shop door - automated, but with buttons placed so that no-one sees them and impossible to open without (yelled) instructions from staff. This does not get the process off to a good start! And now I have to start all over again ...

Glenrothes Branch
Of my experience, I felt, that it lacked the personal touch, and that I was being hurried around a fairground. The setting was very crowded/ and cramped and that, the whole experience unprofessional.
I also felt the acquisition of my money was more the priority, rather than my the need, for my eyes being tested.
I instantly felt uncomfortable, and questioned the quality of my appointment, that I felt cancellation was the appropriate course of action to take, on this occasion.

Took the stellest lense for my daughter In Sittingbourne wasn't told about the guarantee went over the time frame as I booked when I received my letters to book and after the time waiting for a appointment went over the guarantee so told I couldn't get the replacement pair I was entitled to. Told they are all a franchise and no one could help me and was told I lied about not being told about 12 month deadline.
Won't be using again
I was told on contacting customers service that these are franchises and customer service can't do anything so don't bother messaging them

Really got great service from Boots Opticians Whetstone. The optometrist really cared about me and my needs.
They also made sure I got the right lenses to suit my needs and didn’t just rush me like anyone else would. A true credit in an ever changing world.

I popped in with my daughter and spoke with the lovely Dora to ask if I needed another eye test for a pair of glasses I broke. After checking my notes it was confirmed that I could choose new frames without another eye test. Thankfully Dora helped me straight away with choosing new frames and making another appointment for my fitting. So grateful to the wonderful Dora who is always so helpful and caring.

1-Star Review: Disgusting service, zero accountability, and dangerous medical oversight. Avoid.Castle Marina Nottingham
I have been a loyal customer of Boots Opticians for 42 years (including the Dollond & Aitchison days), but after the shocking care and outright lies I have experienced at the Castle Marina branch, I will never trust them with my eyes again.
I paid for bifocal glasses, but they dispensed single-vision reading glasses instead. When I picked them up and pointed out the lack of a visible reading segment, I was brushed off and told "they don’t do them anymore, it's blended in." I struggled to see out of them for nearly a year. In a recent meeting, the assistant manager explicitly confirmed to my face that they are indeed reading glasses—yet the store manager is still refusing a refund, claiming all checks were done, while entirely failing to explain why I was given the wrong lenses.
It gets worse. Because I have a high prescription, Boots always told me I would "never see properly in glasses." After suffering an eye infection that meant I couldn't wear my contact lenses, I finally went to a private eye clinic for a second opinion. The results were damning:
Wrong Lenses: The private clinic tested my Boots glasses and formally confirmed the lenses were completely wrong.
Missed Prescription Needs: They discovered I actually require a prism in my lenses. For the first time in my life, thanks to the private clinic, I can finally see clearly in glasses.
Damaged Eyes from Contact Lenses: Boots had been supplying my contact lenses, which have actively marked my eyes because they were ill-fitting. Boots ignored my astigmatisms in both eyes, whereas the private clinic immediately identified that I need toric lenses.
Neglected Dry Eye: Boots previously told me I just had a "dry patch" and handed me drops. The private clinic diagnosed me with chronic Dry Eye, explained how to manage it, and after receiving actual treatment, my eyes are finally improving.
The staff at this branch lied to cover up a major dispensing error and shrugged off serious discomfort as an inevitability of my high prescription. To treat a loyal customer of over four decades with such deceit and medical incompetence is disgraceful. Avoid this branch at all costs.

I've been going to Boots Opticians for over 15 years but I'll never step foot in one again.
In November 2025 I spent over £600 on glasses which I do every year. However I'd recently started being more active, and due to the cost of those glasses I decided to buy a much cheaper pair online for going to the gym and for any other activities where they could be damaged so that I'm not throwing hundreds of pounds down the drain. I had trouble measuring my own PD because I cannot see my own face in the mirror without my glasses on, so I went to Boots to ask if they had mine from when I bought the glasses with them.
This was in the Hanley store on 13th Feb 2026. I spoke to a blonde woman who then proceeded to speak to me like I was nothing more than DIRT on her shoe. She said she couldn't provide the PD (which fair enough if that's the policy) but her exact words when I said I'm struggling to measure my own PD so I worry it won't be accurate was "that's what you get when you cheap out and buy online" - as though I hadn't already given them hundreds of pounds in the half a year prior to that conversation. The way she spoke to me was absolutely disgusting and I left feeling humiliated.
However I walked to the other side of Hanley centre into SPECSAVERS where they very nicely told me they could do it but unfortunately had to charge me £10 which after the awful treatment I'd just experienced in Boots was music to my ears. I told the man who served me in Specsavers what had just happened in Boots (while almost crying) and he was so kind to me and even refused to charge me for the PD measurement.
Safe to say I will be going to Specsavers for my prescription and my main glasses for the rest of my life.
