1 Star – Extremely disappointing claims experience
I rarely leave negative reviews, but I feel it is important to share my experience to help other customers make an informed decision.
My vehicle caught fire while I was driving. Thankfully everyone was safe, but my experience with the claims process has been extremely disappointing.
The main issues I experienced were:
My vehicle remained in Allianz/IAAI custody for over two months, while the initial inspection itself took around one month.
My claim was ultimately declined on the basis of a policy exclusion relating to mechanical failure.
Despite repeated requests, I did not receive the full engineering report, photographs and supporting technical documentation for more than two months after the incident, making it difficult to fully understand and challenge the decision.
My courtesy car was withdrawn while the dispute was ongoing, leaving me without transport.
During the complaint process, I continued receiving communications regarding disposal of my vehicle and salvage valuation while I was still disputing the claim.
I have continued paying insurance premiums even though no claim payment has been made and my vehicle has been unusable throughout this period. I have been advised that, under the policy terms, the remaining premiums are still payable because the claim has been recorded as a fault claim. I find this difficult to understand given that the claim itself was declined.
I also found it difficult to discuss policy-related concerns outside the claims process, as there appeared to be no dedicated contact point for policy queries.
While I appreciate Allianz's explanation of the policy exclusion they relied upon, my concerns extend beyond the claim decision itself. They relate to the overall handling of the claim, the delays, communication, customer support and the practical impact this had on me over a prolonged period.
My complaint has now reached its final response stage, and I am arranging an independent engineering assessment before referring the matter to the Financial Ombudsman Service.
Unfortunately, based on my personal experience, I cannot recommend Allianz and would encourage prospective customers to carefully consider the quality of the claims service as well as the policy price before purchasing cover.

Your system wouldn't let me use my debit card !! Because it wouldn't let me manually alter my address on your system to include the town I live in, although the rest of the address and postcode were the same, I had to use another card . I tried it twice but your system wouldn't have it. Very frustrating.
