Left totally confused prior to the exam - ISTQB Advanced Test Analyst
Having previously used The Knowledge Academy for the ISTQB Foundation course and examination and having been well trained, 3 of us from the same SW Testing Team decided to attend the ISTQB Advanced Test Analyst course with examination.
Given my experience on this course, I must recommend that if you are considering this course, do not use The Knowledge Academy as you will be extremely lucky to pass the test given the accuracy of the training material they provide and, in this case, the ability of the trainer to answer questions. This is the summary, but for more details, read on.
PREPARATION
Having completed the pre-work, we arrived on the first day and realised the Knowledge Academy trainer was not fully aware of the pre-work information we had been given resulting in her needing to read through our correspondence to understand our starting point. This wasted some training time in what was to be a tightly packed week.
EXAMPLE QUESTIONS
By the end of day 2, everyone on this course was starting to get very concerned about correctly answering up-coming exam questions. For almost every example question/scenario we worked through in class, when different people put forward their answers, the trainer was unable to decide on what was the correct answer. In addition to this, the 'answer book' part of the training material listed the correct answer as a different answer to what was in the presented training material and different again to what the trainer was suggesting....very confused now!
COURSE MATERIAL
OK, yes we are SW testers and have an eye for detail, but quite a bit of our course ended up as a 'review' of the course material due to finding many inconsistencies and confllcts, which then lead to further discussion and confusion. The trainer did say that, to her knowledge, she didn't think the course material had ever been reviewed. I stated that i did not feel this was acceptable, given the cost of the training course.
LOCATION
On the afternoon of the examination, a noisy public function was being held in the room next door (live band) resulting in the exam time being brought forward (reducing revision time) and us having to relocate to an unused and unheated exam room at the rear of the car park where the course was being held.
SUMMARY
Having said the above, I was very relieved to have passed this exam.
The course content itself is very useful in expanding knowledge of software testing for persons who have been SW testing a few years.
BUT with regards to a TRAINING PROVIDER, I strongly recommend you DO NOT use The Knowledge Academy as your training provider if you want to have any confidence in passing the examination at the end.
