The worst Airline in Canada. Flight delays, customer service communication and arrangement by operation managers are unreliable. Consider before buying vacations with Sunwing airline. Besides that, the reviews on hotels by Sunwing is also not reliable. In general, the worst Airline.
STAY AWAY FROM SUNWING
Sunwing, from Calgary, AB to Varadero, Cuba, booked and scheduled for departure on 18 Feb 2025 at 9:45am. 12hrs prior departure time, flight alert notification received advising flight delay, reason given "due to weather conditions at departing station". It was -36C, but no "severe" weather conditions in Calgary. Flt WG628 now scheduled for departure on 18 Feb 2015 at 3:30pm. On 18 Feb 2025 upon waking, we received another flight alert notification delaying our flight for another 12hrs, again notification citing "due to weather conditions at departing station". For the next 5 flight alert notifications we received for our flight delay, the reasons given were "due to weather conditions at departing station", and "due to unscheduled aircraft maintenance". Long story made short here, but end result was 37hrs of wait time spent at airport (after 2 previous delays which were waited out at home), with only "1" food voucher of $25 for myself and one for my husband, AND 59 hrs of total delay time and still no information on whether flight would be a go or not. The ONLY time we seen any Sunwing personnel was on 19 Feb 2025 at 4pm for check in and departure then 3x rescheduled to 7:40pm. Otherwise absolutely NO Sunwing personnel to be seen whatsoever. We contacted our travel agent and was advised she on holidays, no one could in office could assist (???), several attempts via phone to connect with Sunwing where wait times were in excess of minimum 2hrs, then call would be dropped and a repeated attempt again...rinse and repeat for over 12hrs. Several attempts in airport with personnel who could not help. Attempted to "manage our flight" via Sunwing booking website, all options were greyed out denying access to any option. Finally after 39hrs we were connected to a Sunwing agent via phone, who advised us our flight time was rescheduled to yet another time, however, the flight board was not updated to new revised time. We cancelled our flight, as we were WELL over the 48hrs. All was said and done by 11:59 on 20 Feb 2025, and at 12:06pm same day, flight alert notification was sent out advising flight was cancelled. WORST experience EVER, vacation days wasted due to delay time, Sunwing customer service NIL, all sorts of varied excuses and stories given to us, absolutely ZERO avenues to even try to resurrect our vacation with alternate options. A COMPLETE AND TOTAL DYSFUNCTION that left us feeling hostage to and at the mercy of Sunwing's policies, not to mention feeling utterly abandoned, as ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING was backed up by "not responsible for reasons beyond our control". We were able to start a claim for reimbursement, however, at present time, no guarantee we will see it. This is very unacceptable, and well beyond the Passenger Rights. Our biggest question: Why hasn't Gov't officials stepped in to STOP Sunwing from what we view as gross neglect and violation of Passenger Rights????? If you are considering booking with Sunwing, PLEASE RETHINK THAT CHOICE!!!!!!! We WILL be writing a detailed letter with all documentation of delays, weather reports, photos etc to our local MLA office. Also of note, is the aired news on CTV regarding this chaos, where hundreds upon hundreds were left stranded in various destinations for 5 days!!!! You should be SHUT DOWN SUNWING!!!!
THE ABSOLUTE WORST AIRLINE
Like most reviews, I am forced to give one star. If there were a zero or negative value I certainly would award it to this horrible airline. This airline by far is the WORST! Everything about this airline is awful.
We booked a trip in November for the week of February 14-21. My daughter who was at university worked extremely hard at school in order to enjoy this vacation to Mexico. Our flight got delayed which we understood because of a snow storm a few days before. However, the issue was that our flight kept getting delayed. We would get messages advising of the delay with a revised time. This happened for 2 days and finally we got a message advising we were flying out February 16 at 09:30. Let me tell you, that night no one slept. Everyone was on pins and needles anticipating another revised delayed flight message. This was emotional trauma!
We arrived at the airport checked in and went through security before heading to our gate. We boarded late and took off an hour later then scheduled.
We got to our destination finally only to be given a room other than what we booked. We booked a junior suite with 2 beds but got a room with 1 bed. We asked to be moved but we were told there was no other rooms.
We made the best of the situation because we now only had 5 of 7 days of our vacation to enjoy.
The night prior to our return we got the dreaded message that our flight was delayed until early next morning. I went to the front desk to ask for a later check out. The staff member was in the process of checking when the Sunwing agent came and proceeded to tell me I needed to check out at noon. I asked if he could help us extend our stay in our room for a few more hours but he was disinterested in helping. He said we needed to check out the go see them at their office.
SUNWING IS THE ABSOLUTE WORST!!!! DO NOT BOOK WITH THEM UNLESS YOU ARE PREPARED TO BE DISAPPOINTED AND ANGRY. THIS AIRLINE DOES NOT DESERVE ANYONE’S HARD EARNED MONEY!
Absolutely pure garage
Absolutely pure garage, kept saying flight from toronto to cuba was not delayed and was good to go on time. Had 100s of people line-up to check in and then the workers just started screaming "every flight is canceled you will receive a refund". Even while they are telling us this new people are arriving at the airport for their flight and the flight status is still showing as not delayed online. Offered zero compensation for all the useless costs I incurred that were not refundable. As simple 200$ voucher could have at least help cover the costs of flight back and hotel on 27th Feb which I now won't be in Toronto for. Run away!!!
Sunwing Circus
Sunwing is an absolutely horrible company with no regard for human life.
We flew into Punta Cana on February 2nd for two weeks and we stayed at the Riu Republica.
It was time to leave and we found out from other customers that our flight was cancelled. No notifications. We were shipped off to another hotel to wait in the lobby for 6 Hrs.
My husband is diabetic and he had to scramble to get medication and had to pay for it.
We are still here and it is Wed. Feb. 19 and we are still here. They told us we were flying out today but after we woke up at 5;00 a.m we were stuck at the airport for several hours. Again no communication. We are sitting in the lobby all day because we have no room. This is so professional!!
I am extremely disappointed with…
I am extremely disappointed with Sunwing’s service. I booked an all-inclusive vacation, only to have my entire trip canceled the day before departure. Sunwing claimed they attempted to reschedule my flight three times, but it “didn’t work out.” While I understand unforeseen issues can arise, I have friends and family who work at the airport and confirmed that Sunwing flights were still operating on the day my friends and I were supposed to leave.
This level of unprofessionalism was completely unacceptable. I had already spent money preparing for this trip, exchanged my currency to USD, and worked hard to secure my vacation time. Instead of relaxing on a beach as planned, I was left stuck in Canada with no alternative options provided. Sunwing could have at least offered a different flight—even if it meant leaving a day later—but instead, they just canceled everything without even a courtesy call to discuss solutions.
This experience was incredibly frustrating, and I expect compensation for this massive inconvenience. I spent time and money preparing for this trip, and Sunwing should be held accountable for the disruption. I want travel vouchers and proper reimbursement for my expenses.
I would strongly advise others to think twice before booking with Sunwing. If you actually want to go on your vacation, book with a more reliable airline!
Ruined everyone's day
Delayed our flight twice, made us wait for 10 hours in the airport, then canceled our flight. Ruined so many vacations. I saw kids AND ADULTS leaving in tears after they kicked out about 100 people. Never flying with them again.

I gave Sunwing a 1 star but it should be a big ZERO. We came to Punta Cana on Feb. 2nd and we were supposed to be here for two weeks. We have been 3 days more but we were kicked out of our hotel and we sat in the lobby from 1;0O p.m until 9:00 p.m.
No communication whatsoever. The next day we had to check out of our room even though we weren’t leaving.
Again no communication. The hotel locked us out of our room with all our stuff in it. Wouldn’t let us in until we paid 350.00 U.S. We found out from other people that we were departing on Wed early morning so we woke up at 4:00 went to the airport to find out and no plane going to Toronto. Back to the hotel with no room. Some people slept in the lobby with no blankets or pillows!
We are waiting for a room again with no communication. DO NOT FLY WITH SUNWING!!!
Terrible company
I had with my flight, which was delayed by a full day. Due to this inconvenience, I had to incur additional expenses that I believe should be addressed by Sunwing.
The substantial delay forced me to purchase an alternative flight from Air Canada to ensure I could meet my work commitments and take care of my animals at home. Additionally, we could not extend our stay at the hotel without incurring further costs, and the prospect of staying an additional night at the resort would have amounted to $1000 or more which is simply unacceptable.
It's understandable that operational challenges can occur, but your staffing issues should not result in such a significant disruption to passengers' plans. I believe that a turnaround time of a few hours rather than a whole day is a more reasonable expectation.
Thanks for ruining my honeymoon
The delay was deemed OUTSIDE THE CONTROL OF THE CARRIER and as per the Air Passenger Protection Regulations. Sunwing fulfilled obligations by providing an alternate flight departing within 48 hours on WG5286 February 12, 2025. Therefore, you are not entitled to a refund of the unused portion of your airfare.
So let me stay in Mexico with 13 delays and not sure what time I’m leaving. Terrible company

Sunwing Vacations-Just as others have experienced our trip with Sunwing was a disaster. Starting with premier seat selections and a direct flight plan that we paid for in advance last April 2024 that changed a few days prior to our departure to endless flight delays, changes and a nightmare departure we will never travel with Sunwing again. Our seats were bumped and given to Westjet clients that Sunwing picked up in Calgary last minute. We were placed on a Swoop plane and told it was a dark flight. No on board entertainment or charger stations. They apologized for the inconvenience. We were informed that it was still considered a direct flight because we were informed to stay on the plane in Calgary while they picked up added passengers. The resort was good but when it came time to depart we sat in a hotel lobby for 6 hours where we received numerous confusing mixed messages about flight delays and constant departure time changes. Our hotel Sunwing representative was difficult to track down and at one point she actually ran in the other direction when she saw us coming. We were told to check out of our room only to be told that we needed to check back in because our initial flight had been cancelled. We finally left for the airport at 2:45am. Our departure flight was delayed twice, we were supposed to leave at 9:00am we left at 10:20am. I was informed by a member of the flight crew that Westjet sent a "rescue plane" to pick us up. We purchased Club Mobay so we could rest and get a meal at the airport. We arrived at 6:30am and despite C Mobay supposed to be open we were denied access. To date I have been reimbursed for C Mobay and the additional cost of premier seating on the way to Jamaica. We were denied a refund because Sunwing claims we only experienced a 3 hour delay. It was a gong show-Never again!

Unresponsive and helpless, unprofessional customer service support at the travel agency, Sunwing. I wanted to book a trip for a family of four, seeking available occupancy at the all-inclusive resort we had in mind this week Monday. We specifically chose this resort because my friend and their family were also going there. I encountered issues when trying to book on their website, so I called the travel agency directly. I discussed the issue of not being able to book a vacation for four people, and the representative also encountered the same problem when trying from his end. I was unhappy with this misleading information. When I asked to speak with a supervisor, my request was ignored, and the representative said he would send a request to the resort and follow up within 24 hours. I received an email confirmation about my request, but I didn't get a response until I called back FOUR days later. The representative apologized and assured me I would receive an update that same day. He mentioned that the resort had not responded to the request and that they were not permitted to contact the resort directly, which came off as careless and unprofessional. About an hour later, I received an email stating that my request had been completed, and I was instructed to call customer service again. When the service representative answered, I provided my case number, and the woman responded, "Your request is denied." She then asked if there was anything else she could assist me with. The staff was very unprofessional, helpless, and careless. I am not at all satisfied with their service. I have been using Sunwing for over 10 years, and this was the worst experience. The representatives at the resort are absolutely interested in providing the best service and happily expressed their wish for us to continue using their services, a stark contrast to the call centre at Sunwing.

We had the worst experience ever with Sunwing, a group booking which when we arrived at destination, we were booked into different resorts. This should have been communicated before departure so we could make other arrangements. Struggled for 2 days to get our group together with very little help from Sunwing. Also no transfers back to airport, and nobody to assist, had to get our own taxi and pay for it. Also delayed flights. This is the worst tour operator out there.
Sunwing Ripoff
Sunwing has got to be the most unorganized, unprofessional service we have ever encountered. We spent all day at the airport. We boarded and then disembarked twice and then were told we would be taxied to a hotel for the night and would leave the next day. We paid for a 7 day holiday and got 6. Then told we will not be reimbursed for our time and money lost. We will NEVER fly with this mickey mouse outfit again.

Sunwing Fraud!! Pay for 7 Days Get 6 and No Money Back
When you pay for a 7 day vacation you should get 7 days. Not with Sunwing. The delays that turned into a lost day are the result of Sunwing operating without enough resources to overcome operational issues. Translation: Sunwing does not have extra aircraft to accommodate maintenance problems. Instead of being refunded for the lost day Sunwing has decided the customer should get nothing. Is this how the company pays for Andrew Dawson's bonus? Promote and sell 7 day vacations and then provide 6. Call it fraud, call it bait and switch, call it criminal because that is what it is. This scenario is happening on a regular basis. And now this stain is going to splash onto Westjet because they own this circus. There should be an option to rate Sunwing as zero stars.
Booked an all inclusive in cuba..
Booked an all inclusive in cuba... not told hotel was operating at 10% capacity... therefore... 24hr buffet.. only open for 3 hrs a day for breakfast only... a la carte... 4 in total... only one open at night.. disco.. not open all week. 2 days no hot water.. no communication regarding anything until ur trapped there.. we paid for an upgrade ahead of time.. others got it for free due to the hotel issues.. all pools were dirty.. sand.. leaves..which we cleaned out of the pool. I know some of these are hotel issues.. my point is.. no communication ahead of time.. saying anything.. and we paid a decent amount and got way less then what we paid.
Recently travelled to Mexico
Recently travelled to Mexico, the flights were slightly delayed both ways but that inconvenience was outweighed by the superb service we received with one of our travellers requiring accessibility assistance.
Help was provided immediately we arrived at our departure and destination airports and beyond. We were impressed. Thank you
The planes are so old
The planes are so old - no phone charging ports, the sunwing app has no entertainment, complimentary service is the standard water, coffee, tea and soft drinks however they run out of items quickly (and were very dismissive and un-apologetic about it). Also a heads up that they do not provide any complimentary snacks (pretzels, cookies) like all other airlines. There was one flight attendant who was a manager who was very kind and deserves recognition for sure!
Hopefully now that WestJet owns them this will improve and come up to the standard of other similar airplanes like porter and Air Transat. It was disappointing because the quality of the flights were so unexpected compared to all other airlines we’ve flown. I’m d recommend any other airline if you have a choice.
