For my sins I am dyslexic...so when opening an ISA at Skipton I put 2 x wrong digits in my phone number........ today, after not being able to log in because of this I called them, as I realised the error. 40 minutes of hanging on.. I was then transferred.... to be told 'you have to go into a branch (104 miles round trip, with a £35 train fare) to rectify these 2 digits' !! I am over 70, don't drive to London, so it's not easy..... first I take a country bus, which comes every 2 hours, then a mainline train, an underground train and finally a 7 mins walk!! !!!
QUESTION....Is this the procedure for other financial institutions, or are Skipton just making it difficult for me !!!! I'm devastated at this news !!......All for the sake of 2 x wrong numbers - and in this day age where they are supposed to be making things easier for us (them) !!

Abigal was exceptionally helpful and showed patience with an old man of 90 and worked her magic getting me through an experience that I tried to do for three weeks well done

I've been with Skipton for more years than I remember.
Rarely need to call them, and when I do, it's been a positive experience.

Originally, my circa 1+ year savings experience with Skipton was actually very good. All processes surrounding the opening and management of my Skipton savings account were smooth, quick, efficient and reliable. That is what customers want from a financial institution.
Nonetheless, I have deducted my rating down to 4-stars due to problems that I encountered with Skipton's new mobile app, which currently goes under the name of 'Skipton by Invite'.
Skipton's new mobile app lacks critical functionality, and causes customers problems. Moreover, for many customers (like me), the new app is not avoidable, as a migration to it is mandatory (as the older app stops giving access to key functions).
Critically, the new Skipton app does not feature the ‘Secure Passcode’ (6-digit code generation) function (which was present in the old Skipton Mobile App).
When using the secure Skipton online site, this app-based function is *critical* for (1) nominating an account to make a withdrawal to, and (2), making the withdrawal.
In my own case, I wanted to add a second ‘nominated account’ to make withdrawals to, from my Skipton savings account. Since the ‘Secure Passcode’ feature/function was not available in the new app, I could not achieve this.
I have given Skipton feedback on their new app on their publically available app feedback email address.
As far as I am aware, the only ways I can now achieve nominating a second withdrawal account (and then withdrawing to it) are:
(1) Calling in to a busy call-centre (mostly likely because of an increase in calls, due to problems with the new app).
(2) Sending a series of Secure Messages on the secure online site.
(3) Using the new app itself. (I personally do not like using app-only platforms to manage my finances. I prefer managing my accounts on an online [desktop/laptop computer based] platform.)
The above is not ideal for me, and I suspect many other customers.
In the end, I opted for the third solution to withdraw a sizeable sum. However, as noted above, I would have preferred to do important financial management tasks on the online site, and not via an app.
Thank you for reading my review.

IWent into Leeds city centre branch on Saturday morning (as a non Skipton customer) without an appointment to transfer my ISA to a Skipton ISA. Was seen to straight away. Everything was dealt with very quickly. The lady who dealt with me was very pleasant & helpful, explaining everything clearly and doing all the necessary transfer on my mobile phone for me. She talked me through the various services they can offer without trying to sell or being pushy. Full marks for a very pleasant and professional service.

First time I have ever used skipton and must say how happy I am with their service so far. Efficient, fast and straight forward. I couldn't believe that when I took a mortgage out with them i received a little welcome pack on completion! Thank you very thoughtful

I received swift answers in plain language to the questions I raised concerning a savings account opened by accident

Installing the new app was easy and my wife and I had no problems

My phone call was extremely helpful and everything I wanted was carried out. My only grumble was the 10 min delay. But I approve of the lack of music option and the call-back facility.

What a joke!!! My husband is still waiting after week's for the paperwork to choose what to do with a maturing account and still nothing. We did get very excited this morning when there was a letter from Skipton, however it was short lived, it was addressed to me and guess what offering me a review and advice on what to do with my money. I have openly put in a previous review, I do not want their advice, as soon as possible we are moving all our money from them, all we want is my husbands options paperwork, it could have walked to us.

I perfectly agree with all one star reviews here. The app is a nightmare and staff is not properly trained. Chat helpline not very helpful. I had to close my account, so no more problems. It started so well some years ago when I first open my account.....

Unable to process a simple transaction
and all the call centre staff seem to read off a script. I opened a 5 Yr ISA successfully but Skipton were completely inept at transferring my £20k from Virgin Money, who ,by the way were amazing ,and repeatedly told me to contact Virgin myself to resolve the issue. Virgin advised that they had tried twice to complete the transfer but it was rejected by Skipton...reason unknown ? To add insult to injury ,Skipton then sent me a message to warn that time was running out to transfer funds into my ISA ! I have now transfered the ISA to another bank . USELESS

Had trouble logging into my account and eventually got locked out. However, Amelia was brill! Sorted the issue out in less than 10 minutes. Thanks!
