I had an outstanding experience using Navy Federal for my auto loan. The entire process was smooth, straightforward, and surprisingly fast. Applying for preapproval was easy, and I received a decision quickly, which gave me confidence and a clear budget before I started shopping for a vehicle.
One of the biggest advantages was the competitive interest rate and transparent terms—there were no hidden surprises. The customer service representatives were professional, knowledgeable, and willing to answer all of my questions throughout the process.
When it came time to finalize the purchase, everything went exactly as expected, making the dealership experience much less stressful.
I also appreciated how convenient it was to manage the loan through the mobile app and online banking. Overall, Navy Federal made refinancing my vehicle simple and hassle-free.
I would absolutely recommend Navy Federal’s auto loan program to anyone who qualifies for membership and is looking for a reliable, efficient lending experience.

By far one of the worst banks I've dealt with when it comes to reliability. Transferring money from another financial institution fails far too often, making it frustrating to access your own funds. Customer service is equally disappointing, reaching a knowledgeable representative can be a challenge, and resolving issues often takes far longer than it should.
I'd recommend choosing a bank with a larger branch network, more dependable customer service, and, most importantly, reliable access to your money when you need it.
See their response. Now they want to help, because of a bad review. Can't make this up.

My husband and I joined Navy Federal Credit Union a couple of months ago. We both now use the Flagship credit card as our primary card. We immediately set up automated payments from our NF checking account to cover our monthly balance to avoid paying interest. Just opened the second statement to find an interest charge in the amount of $11.29. We immediately called to dispute and ask what happened. Navy Federal was clearly at fault and the charge was waived and we were assured our auto payment was in place going forward and our credit rating would not be negatively affected. This has caused unnecessary stress and confusion.

As a former service member, I chose Navy Federal Credit Union because of its long-standing reputation for serving military members and their families. Unfortunately, my recent HELOC experience fell far short of the level of professionalism and service I expected.
From the beginning, our loan process was plagued by repeated errors, inconsistent communication, and unnecessary delays. Our assigned loan officer made multiple mistakes throughout the process, provided explanations that frequently proved to be inaccurate or contradictory, and, most concerning, closed our loan application without any warning or communication while we were actively working to provide requested documentation.
Throughout this process, my husband and I spent countless hours contacting customer service, trying to obtain updates and clarification. We were repeatedly promised callbacks that never came. We found ourselves having to advocate for ourselves at nearly every step, escalating concerns to supervisors simply to receive basic communication and move the process forward.
Ultimately, supervisors acknowledged that our file had become a “teaching experience” for an inexperienced loan officer and assumed responsibility for completing our loan. While I appreciate the efforts of the supervisors who eventually stepped in to resolve the situation, that acknowledgment does not excuse the months of frustration, uncertainty, and lack of accountability we experienced.
Mistakes happen in any organization. What was most disappointing was not the mistakes themselves, but the absence of proactive communication, follow-through, ownership, and respect for our time. No customer—especially those who have chosen Navy Federal because of its commitment to serving military members and veterans—should have to fight this hard simply to have a loan processed correctly.
In the end, our HELOC was completed, but only because we persistently escalated the issue and refused to let it fall through the cracks. Had we not done so, I have little confidence that our loan would have been completed at all.
I sincerely hope Navy Federal uses our experience as an opportunity to improve training, oversight, and communication within its lending department. Your members deserve better than what we experienced.

The team that assisted me during my VA home loan experience were absolutely amazing. I was kept in constant contact with, all the steps I took were explained to me & the entire process was seamless. Even my realtor was impressed. 20 Stars & would absolutely recommend. My sincere thanks to all involved!

There was a lack of communication and follow-up with title which led to a lot of issues 6 days before I was supposed to close on my home. This caused an immense amount of stress not knowing what my housing situation would look like just 6 days before I was supposed to close and get keys. Additionally, they did not understand IL law which also delayed and almost made me cancel purchasing my home.

Tried to add my outside checking account to pay credit card payments. Initially, allowed their 3rd party to access my outside account. It showed briefly then disappeared. Then tried to use the "small deposits" option and the outside account appeared long enough for 1 payment, then disappeared. The website is the worst I have ever seen for a financial institution; particularly when they provide excellent service.
