Difficulties with supporting documents

The initial sign up was easy, however the request for documents from Mt doctor was far less so. After being emailed multiple times that they were waiting on documents, I got in touch with the doctor directly and they said that had received no such request. After I told LifeDirect they finally sorted everything almost 6 weeks after the initial request.

Life insurance

When we needed help Caleb responded in a timely way and prompted us to keep our policy application on track without being too pushy.

I am very satisfied with my experience…

I am very satisfied with my experience obtaining Insurance through Life Direct. Having the online comparison chart to reference helps a lot in my decision making. My contact with Life Direct has also been a very positive experience. My Insurance advisor has always been friendly, patient, informative and very punctual in communicating with me.

It was quick and painless

It was quick and painless. They questionnaire asked all the relevant questions, which was followed up by 1 email requesting clarification. I do not like getting reminders one after the other. I left one of my application unfinished and couldn't find a way to continue when I got back to it andstarted getting reminders for the partially completed form which was rather annoying. Other than that great.

Well where do I start

Well where do I start, I applied 22 days ago, took over an hour and a half of my own time to fill out what I assume was a form designed to generally cover any question any underwriter could ask for. In hindsight had I have used this only as a comparator tool and then applied with an actual insurance company I probably would have saved alot of time regardless of the next part of my journey with Life Direct.
2 weeks pass since filling out application, I'd received a number of automated replies saying my application had been forwarded to the underwriter etc, then I got a strange email from a representative saying I needed to fill out an application form thanks for my interest, and was linked to my existing application - I replied to the email to question this. Another few days pass and I hadn't heard anything so I called the 0800 number to follow up. Someone took a message and said I'd get a call back.
I get a call back full of apologies etc, was given a timeline I could expect prompt follow up, essentially 2 business days max, and got an email summarising this. It seemed promising.
Well it wasn't to be - 6 days passed, still nothing.
I emailed not only the representative but Life Directs complaints email too, to reiterate my disappointment and to ask to cancel my application so it wouldn't conflict with a new application elsewhere as I decided it wasn't in my best interest to have any further dealings with anyone involved in this mess, least of all with something as critical as life insurance.
I got a sheepish email back addressing me by the wrong name saying "oh sorry you're disappointed, I've cancelled your application, I'll call later" there was no call, and no escalated follow up, its seems Life Direct don't take their one function very seriously and definitely do not care to investigate or remedy any shortcomings or complaints with any haste.
I do find it strange and a little bit suspicious that a company that collects a significant amount of personal information and makes its money from commission has made zero effort to do anything of any purpose at all here, yet devote a great deal of effort to escalating their presence on social media sponsored ads and bumping their name up on search engine results.
"Their own website and indeed a legal act for their industry outlines their responsibilities as follows:
LifeDirect and our Financial Advisers have duties under the Financial Markets Conduct Act 2013 relating to the way we give advice. We are required to:

Give priority to your interests
Exercise care, diligence and skill
Meet standards of competence, knowledge and skill set by the Code of Professional Conduct for Financial Advice Services
Meet standards of ethical behaviour, conduct and client care set by the Code of Professional Conduct for Financial Advice Services",
None of which appear to be upheld in my experience, and I do wonder if its of enough concern to report to the ombudsman.
Instead I offer a warning to any potential customers here - save your time, use the comparison tool, its definitely great, but look elsewhere to finalise something as important as your life insurance.
