AVOID

It seems I am not alone!
The 5” knife in my set simply snapped in half when I tried to cut a chilled Boost bar in half (another knife did this easily)…
Response I received from LP simply said that cutting a chocolate bar was not covered by their supposed 25yr warranty.
When I replied with pictures I simply received no further response.

❌ Avoid Jean Patrique knives completely.

⚠️ The claim of “stainless steel” is highly questionable—stainless steel should not rust or pit under normal use, yet these knives started showing rust spots within a very short time, I am also fully aware of hand washing and drying them being made of more carbon, but these things only need your breath and they start rusting, ridiculous..

🛠️ I contacted the company early on and was told to use baking soda to clean them. That is not a fix for poor-quality materials.

⛔ Over time, those “spots” have turned into permanent pitting, leaving the knives in a terrible condition. I will be providing photos as evidence.

🔍 For comparison, I own a stainless steel knife from another brand that is over 10 years old and still in excellent condition—no rust, no pitting.

💸 I bought these expecting an upgrade. Instead, they’ve been substandard from day one and have only got worse. Absolute waste of money.

Been using them over 30 years - without any issues.

I first bought a set of knives at least 30 years ago - one of those offers where you only pay postage - and was so impressed I have added to the set over the years, and have never had any problems. They went with me to Brazil, where I lived for 12 years, and have been used daily since day 1 - yes, for at least 30 years!
I find reports of blades snapping to be almost unbelievable, as I have never even chipped a blade, and they sharpen up a treat - usually just with a few simple strokes on a honing steel.
Even when I have bought additional JP knives I have found them to be amazing value for money, and have far outperformed expectations, and I cannot imagine ever needing to buy another knife!

Terrible customer service - update

Advised by JP that they are not responsible for the 25 year warranty if the product was bought from a retail outlet rather than from their website or by telephone. Told me to go back to the retailer in Japan where the knife set was bought - with an original 12 month guarantee.

Worst company ever I would run and ever…

Worst company ever I would run and ever purchase anything. They will send you catalogs for years despite attempts to be removed which is terrible. I’ve called their customer service line and hope that they will actually do it this time as I’ve now moved so now there’s the risks of my name for new people living there.

Don’t believe their 25 year warranty guarantee

Tried to claim under their 25 year warranty for a broken knife purchased in 2019 - what a waste of time - just a total refusal to accept. Obvious that this company is just the trading name for mass imported goods from China - see google.
Also evident there is no JP customer services department just someone batting of any complaints received hence their bad name
KEEP CLEAR and don’t be fooled by the cheap offers and massive discounts currently showing on their website - there’s a reason they’re so cheap!

Much like everybody else - GDPR Shenanigans

Much like everybody else, the products are middling these days (used to be of better quality). But the real problem is that requests to be removed from marketing mailings are repeatedly ignored.

They (it's actually DRMG on behalf of J-P) play a little fast and loose with the GDPR legislation by not putting your name on mail delivered to your home address and as such are not using your PII as your home address in itself does not identify you as "an identified or identifiable natural person who is alive". It's within the rules but certainly not in the spirit of GDPR.

If you speak to support and advise that you would like to speak to somebody with responsibility for Data Protection you will get the email of the Data Protection Officer, but he (I won't share his name) will simply stop replying to you if my experience in anything to go by.

Spam, spam, spam…

Indifferent quality goods…
Not restaurant quality…
What really gets me though, is the unsolicited marketing.
Yes, I purchased mediocre quality goods from them.
I absolutely ticked the ‘no’ to marketing box…
I then get catalogue after catalogue…
I even called them and requested that they remove my details… I was assured that the matter would be dealt with…
Not.
I now give them 1* reviews and put the unsolicited mail back in the post box marked ‘return to sender’…

Poor firing, quenching and metal, waste of money.

I bought my son a set of 5 kitchen knives for Christmas. Since then two knives have snapped when cutting vegetables.
This is a sign of poor firing, quenching and metal.
Judging by others comments their 25 year guarantee is a farce. So will not waste my time, just leave a warning:-
DO NOT buy knives from this company they are a waste of money!

If I could give it 0 stars I would …

If I could give it 0 stars I would as I’ve had 0 customer service responses!

My parents recommended Jean Patrique to us for our knife set when we bought our new house. Kindly we listed a knife block set on our housewarming registry and was gifted it by some friends. Within a few weeks one of the tips of the knives snapped off when cutting a raw potato (not a particularly hard food source). It was just the very point of the knife, we didn’t complain or comment to the company and decided to continue using the knife as it was useable.

Fast forward 3 years and whilst cutting some cheddar cheese (again… not a particularly hard food source, most of the length of the blade of another knife has completely snap, this time rendering it entirely useless. A solid metal knife… completely snapped, under very little cutting pressure.

Noticed the 25 year warranty on website- emailed to explain with pictures and since emailing over a month ago, I have received zero reply. Not even an acknowledgement email or holding email. Poor form from a company that has come so highly recommended to us by friends and family.

Sure enough, we have reported back to our friends and family about the poor product and horrific customer service.

Do not waste your money or time on these products. As you can see from recent reviews standards have not been upheld and once bought the company seemingly does not care about your return business or care.

No data protection or respect

I will never buy from here again because they have not stopped sending me thick envelopes full of marketing leaflets from 10+ companies. they are harassing me to profit. I've called and asked them to stop and opted out online, they said I won't receive anymore letters 1 month later I receive another. They abuse your details and not respect GDPR laws. I highly recommend you stay away because they don't deserve your money. And the knife I bought? Disappointingly dull out of the box, wish I never bought it. You will regret shopping here.

Absolute shambles.

Absolute shambles.
I had a knife snap when cutting a carrot. It should be an easy warranty claim. But I have sent photos, sent 20+ emails and thyey then say they have got the warehouse to send me a new one... it never arrives and then I go back to square one again with them wanting all the same information again... with the same outcome ... no replacement.
Beyond frustrating

SOOO BAD!!!! (service) yet so good (products)

If only the experience of dealing with them was anywhere near as good as their products. AVOID!!!
Their products are pretty fab and having been using them for over 15 years, but the order I've just received is genuinely the last (and I'm tempted to return!).

Place order, they take money, (3-5 business days delivery promised) ... .... .... Nothing!!!

After 11 days send threatening email... ... ... Nothing!

After 12 days... Notice from courier they have package
After 13 days.. Package arrived

Literally zero communication from JPW in all that time. My Day 11 email specifically asked for an update and nothing. Not even an ecknowledgment let alone an email.

Personal Data Concerns

My saucepan wasn't bad, but trying to get your details removed from their postal spam list is almost impossible.

I'm on my third request and have requested details of the Data Protection Officer, however all I get back is "we've asked to have your details removed" from something frustratingly called 'Team JP' rather than anybody with a modicum of accountability.

Forever Knives, surely they shouldnt snap!!

Purchased a set of the three Jean Patrique knives and about 2 years ago the small of the three knives had a v shaped nick in it. I wrote to the company who replaced it with no issues. Again the smallest knife has snapped, surely the material that the smaller knives are made from are sub standard. I have no email the company on two occasions sharing pictures of the snapped item and to be honest I cant even comment on the customer service as it is no existent- not even a reply from any of the emails to say sorry, I will never use this company again and will encourage others not to do so either. Very disgruntled customer and yes I would welcome a response from head office too as I think there needs to be some serious overall of staff.

Just awful customer support, truly awful

Well now, things have obviously changed since I kitted myself out with much of their equipment.

In the early days, when owned by a French Chef, their customer service and product quality were exceptional. Today I still have a saucepan set, two sets of knives and a variety of other kitchen stuff.

20 years on, my little saucepan has just sprung a leak so I immediately went onto their website and ordered a new one.

They sent the wrong item. When I queried this I was told I'd placed an order for the item sent. So I sent them a screenshot of the home page from the SHOP App I used to pay - where there was an image of the item I purchased together with a description clearly showing it as a 14cm pan and in stainless steel. Nothing like the black mottled non-stick 16cm pan they'd chosen to send.

I then get what probably amounts to the lamest apology in history referring to the substitution. Excuse me - you sent the wrong item. You didn't substitute anything - quite simply someone picked, packed and sent the incorrect item.

But, to make matters worse, to return the item I have to pay for it. Sure, they will refund the money, up to a limit set by them, but there is no option for them to do a post paid return label. That's about as mickey mouse as you can get for an on line retailer.

I even had the courtesy to let them know I was not happy which is when they told me that they have no stock of the pan I ordered, so they sent me an alternative without even bothering to check I wanted it.

They are a perfect example of how customer service is so easy to get right yet so many simply get it wrong. They do not understand the basic elements of that word service. I have chosen to buy a different pan at a higher cost from ProCook.
