Shame I can’t give 0 stars. Terrible, terrible customer service: whether in person in the bank; no answer to emails for days; and a phone service where you are on hold for at least 30 minutes only to be told ‘I can’t help, you need to speak to someone else.’ We have a litany of complaints: unable to change our address on returning to the UK; poor communication once back; a clunky app and poor online viewing experience. In short: avoid. Bank elsewhere and save hour of your life and unwanted stress.
This is the worst bank ever!
Poor service, poor policies, poor communication, underqualified staff, stupid app, useless website, unreachable call center! I really wonder how people do business with these bunch of buffoons.
To be avoided at all cost!
I have been a customer at ING for more than twenty years. One year ago, I got a letter from ING out of the blue saying that they want to end all commercial relations with me unless I provided some documents. After endless calls, I sent the required documents and the problem seemed to be solved. Then two weeks ago I was suddenly blocked from my account. I couldn't understand why. I contacted their customer service several times and my call kept being transferred from one person to another as no one could explain why I had been blocked from my account. I then went to one of their branches and even they couldn't solve the problem and gave me a number to call. I called that number and all they said is that they would call me back in two days to set up an appointment. They never called back. I called them again several times until someone was willing to set up an appointment at one of their branches. On the day of the appointment at their branch, I asked the person why my account was blocked and they still couldn't explain why!! Then I asked to close my account and transfer the money to another account at another bank but the process is still ongoing and I don't know when it will end.
Choose any other bank; I can't imagine worse than ING Belgium.
Terrible service. Tried calling them many times and they tell you to make an appointment online. It states that you would be contacted within three working days. Afterwards, no one contacts you. Horrible service. I guess this bank does not want new clients...
I don't know how this so called bank is still working. Service is just terrible. Things you should be able to do with couple of clicks via internet bank here will take hours and several phone calls. Every communication with the bank will be a bad experience. The whole system is just ancient. Use any other new bank, but never open an account here
I have never experienced worse customer services. Impossible to contact, not allowed to go to branches, does not reply to emails for days and months, awful when you get through the long phone waits. Easily the worst bank from a customer perspective that I have ever encountered.
Stay away from ING, a shame of a bank.
I have been client for almost 10 years there, always provisionned the accounts, never late on the Visa downpayments or anything.
The other day I had my first and last problem with them, one of their employees contacted me in a scandalous and insulting way for no reason, I was so shocked that I complained to their services, providing the mails and every detail for them to investigate.
They answered me with a letter saying they are stopping every commercial relationship with me, closing the accounts and blocking me in 2 months.
The call centre is absolutely horrible, I spent litteraly hours waiting, getting sent from one employee to another while waiting inbetween, none of them knowing why I was redirected, for them not to be able to help at all in the end.
Stay far away from that joke of a bank
When I first joined ING, initially, the bank was very good. Living in the UK we opened our account by going to Brussels and, a charming lady, talked us through what was necessary. No problem with opening an account. Our use was access to cash using ATMs & paying bills whilst in the EU and having a pension paid in from the Netherlands. Then, out of the blue, ING said it was closing our account with no reason given. Admittedly ING's terms & conditions allow them to do this. All I can think is, one of the following reasons. I am not a business so I am too small a customer, BREXIT happened or I haven't used the account (apart from my pension payment) in the past 2 years due to Covid restrictions on travelling abroad. I set up another euro account with another bank and slowly transferred the money over. Although this was achieved before ING's deadline of closing the account the bank kept hassling me. If they bothered to check, they could see the money was in the process of being transferred. Further emails I sent were ignored. Anyway, I am glad I am no longer a client of ING. Shame, as I said, for the 1st few years I never had any problem with them. I also notice that they never reply to comments in Trustpilot. Maybe they should take notice of them.
Terrible service. They have been closing offices and services in Belgium all in the name of 'digitalisation', which is failing completely (just launched a new Home Banking app because the old one doesn't work like it should). Been calling for almost 2 hours now for a very simple problem but no success. Don't let the nice graphics and modern 'look and feel' distract you, this bank is useless...
If I could rate negative stars, I would.
In order to set up a blocked account for a rental contract, I can set up an appointment in person, which took a week of calling to get done and the earliest appointment is literally 1 month later. Alternatively, I can set it up online- but to do so you have to do it through a phone app. In order to prove your identity to the phone app (ItsMe) you have to switch to another page that requires a plugin that's not available to phones. It's infuriating. And on top of that, their customer service is terrible, the people are often (but not always) rude and inept.
I also applied for a credit card with them six months ago. Again I had to go in person to complete the application. I waited 2 months with no card and when I called to ask what the hold up was, I was told there was no record of ever having requested the card. This bank is useless to a degree that feels almost criminal -- people depend on their banking services and you truly cannot get anything from ING.
I think that in absolute terms, they provide the worst service I have ever had in my life (together with Ryanair car) it’s incredible that they can conduct their business in such an inefficient way and with clients who have been loyal with them for decades. The list of mismanagement is so long I don’t have the time and the wish to start. Lost credit cards (6 in a row!), unjustifiable closure of my daughter student account? (Their machine picked up that she was not living in Belgium for her studies and instead of contacting her or me by email they thought best write letters that she never received). The letter of complaint never answered and never an apology for the bad service. Some of their portfolio managers have been really helpful in trying to fix the mess that ING made but they can’t compensate the out of the world level of poor service
This is a REALLY bad bank. Their customer service is mediocre and only during office hours.
I made a wire transfer ten days and nothing, on their end I just get excuses.
My friend had her account blocked and it took two months for them to fix it.
TERRIBLE BANK, DO NOT USE
ING is the worst bank ever. They cancel your recurrent payments and than cancel your insurance contract asking you to buy a new insurance at higher price. These are borderline corrupt practices.
Consider other banks and avoid ING. They can offboard you at any time with little notice and regardless of your loyalty or how good your financial standing with them is. Online communication is difficult, slow and in most cases unfriendly. I am a happy customer of another bank now.
Run away from this bank! I woke up with blocked accounts without any prior information. When I called to ask for explanations, no one knew how to give me a concrete answer as to why they blocked me. It is a mess how they can become masters of your money without knowing anything. What's worse is that I'm not the only one with this problem, in a simple Google search I saw that it happens frequently to other people.
Terrible, too long waiting time and then there was never any helpful answers to my questions. Appointments with branches were never possible (nobody picked up the phone). Webform was never replied either. Stay away from this bank at any cost.
I tried to open a savings deposit account. I am still trying. I am beginning to lose hope. I am a current customer. How hard can it be? It has been two weeks I have been trying. This one requires an in person meeting. Brussels - which handles the calls - say that the Antwerp head office refuse to take their calls. But Antwerp also don't share their timetable so no appointments can be booked. You cannot call Antwerp directly it seems. I waited on the line for about 40 minutes on one occasion as Brussels tried to call Antwerp. . When I retried the call I was put through to a helpful man who gave me the telephone number of the business manager. I called it. This was now at least half a day's labour I had invested. Except this was the ex business manager. And it was his personal mobile. I rang. He was cooking dinner for his family. Lovely man. Explained he had been given early retirement as soon as he turned 50. He had been surprised. Wow. He gave me the number of the business manager (current). I rang that number. He is on holiday. For two weeks. It is not August. No one is standing in for him. Double wow. Conclusion- it is impossible to open an account. Anyone who knows retail banking knows it is a simple money making machine. You basically cannot go wrong. But words fail me here. This is going very wrong. I anticipate that in Belgium at least it will reach a point where word of mouth reports trigger a catastrophic defection.
This is a horrible bank, stay away!
I was a proper and normal client of theirs for almost 6 years and then all of a sudden because I moved to Germany and wasn't making enough money for them, they decided to "remove" me from being their client. They sent a letter about it to an old address of mine and it got sent back to them and despite having both my email and phone number, they did not try to reach me and just blocked my account and are now keeping thousands of Euros hostage. My phone charge bounced and my line got disconnected! I can't use my money for food nor bills! I tried contacting them an endless amount of times but they are ignoring me. I'm gonna file an official EU complaint against this behavior! Stay away from this bank.
