Highly Recommended for Camera Equipment
I ordered various items of camera equipment in late November, a number of which were not in stock. This was made clear to me before I made any payments. Delivery date was mid January and I was concerned that there might be a price reduction at Xmas. The team agreed to give me any price adjustments. I was asked to pay a deposit, not the full amount. All the staff I dealt with both online and in the George Street shop were helpful and honest. Communication was first rate. All items became available in Mid January and I picked them up in the George Street shop. Pricing was very competitive.
I would have no hesitation in buying again from them and they have my highest recommendation.
Spare batteries for our 2nd camera
I needed spare batteries for our small waterproof camera. Found the batteries easily on Georges Cameras website, ordered and received them very quickly. Price was reasonable too.
Wet Weather Gear
I ordered a raincoat for my Canon R5. Georges Cameras had a great selection and it arrived very quickly too.

Empathetic customer service
Went into George's on a whim to take a look at the WANDRD Prvke camera bag. It was on special when I looked on the website on Sunday morning before heading into the store, but hadnt realised that the promotion had ended the day before but the website hadn't been refreshed with the new price yet (it updated a few hours later). However the staff there were good enough to honour the price I saw and I bought the bag pretty much on the spot.
Great range and great customer service
Friendly staff, great product range and sharp pricing. Responsive customer service with honesty and integrity.
Boondoggled at George's Camera Store in Sydney
On October 3 I bought a flash unit from a very helpful and nice guy named Ricky at George's Camera Store. I didn't get around to actually using the unit till today, October 20. As I took a 2 hour train ride down to Sydney for a photo project, I read the instruction manual and discovered that the battery indicator did not work per the instructions, so I decided to pop into George's to solve the problem. The first salesman I spoke with, who was dismissive and quite rude, told me devices using AAA batteries don't have indicators. I told him I have a compact camera (Canon Powershot) that runs on AAAs and there is an indicator. He then said the 7-day period was over, but this was a warranty issue and I just wanted credit to buy a different flash unit. He then referred me to the manager, a tall person from whom grim, arrogant un-helpfulness spilled forth like an overflowing sewer. He gave me the same BS line, ignoring my compact camera battery story completely, and added there was a mark on the unit, which I'm still searching for. In the end, there was no satisfaction or logic to be got. I thought I'd found my new camera store; I haven't. Goodbye to George's.
Con-Artists - Avoid at all costs!
Do not be fooled by the cheap prices on the Georges Cameras website.
You are charged a “handling fee” on top of shipping for online orders, which is not disclosed until payment, often cancelling out the savings you think you have made on your purchase.
Items are falsely shown as in stock on the website, the items are not in stock and it will take George’s several weeks to order them from the supplier before they can be shipped to you, if not longer.
Items that are actually in stock still take a week to even be dispatched by Georges, they claim shipping times take 3-7 days but in reality it will be at least two full weeks before you receive your order (if you are lucky).
Customer service is extremely slow to respond to support inquiries, if you then reply to their response you will not get another response and you will have to submit a new inquiry to continue the conversation about what is happening with your order.
Customer service staff will also blatantly lie to you about the status of your order and when it will be shipped. In response to my first inquiry, I was told my items were in stock and would be shipped the next day, they weren’t in stock, they weren’t shipped, it took another three days and another inquiry before I was told the truth.
To make things worse, if you inquire about the delay in the dispatch and shipping of your order, and customer service finally admit they do not have the items that you ordered in stock, customer service staff will then try to make you switch from the “in stock” item you have ordered that is not actually in stock, to a different, more expensive item and have you pay the difference.
If you challenge staff on why an item that was shown as in stock on their website, then later confirmed in writing as in stock by customer service, is not actually in stock, they will just brush it off and say it was a “stock error” and deny any responsibility.
By the time you place your order, inquire with customer service about its delay, wait for them to respond, go back and forth with them on the issue until they finally admit the truth, obtain a refund (which takes up to 10 days), then order the items you needed from another business, you are going to be waiting weeks if not months before you actually receive the items that you set out to purchase.
If like me, you bought the items because you needed them for an upcoming trip, you are completely screwed.
Essentially, Georges undertakes deceptive and unethical business practices in order to obtain a financial advantage over their competitors, (much the same as Digidirect) and they should be avoided at all costs.
I’ll never purchase another item from Georges Cameras and I recommend you spend your money elsewhere, at a reputable retailer.
***EDIT***
After posting this review I was contacted by Alexander Langley, the head of sales at Georges Cameras, who attempted to bribe me into removing my review with a store credit.
Take a quick look at the genuine reviews on the Trustpilot or Product Review websites, this is not an isolated incident, it is a frequent occurrence.
It is undoubtedly clear that Georges is deliberately lying about stock on their website and practicing “drop shipping”. I am lodging a complaint with the ACCC as a result of this incident
Terrible service
I was advised by staff that the lens was in stock at their Chatswood warehouse and available for pickup prior to placing my order. After completing the purchase online, I requested an ETA but never received a clear response. Weeks later, I received an email stating the item was ready for collection from their Sydney store. Upon arrival, I was told the additional filters had been forgotten and I’d need to either pay $10 for shipping or continue waiting. Extremely disappointing experience — I wouldn’t recommend go elsewhere
just spoke on the phone to one of your…
just spoke on the phone to one of your staff members and was advised that you are unable to fulfil my order fully.
I was then told that even though you cannot provide me the lens, I would have to pay a restocking fee for the grip I purchased.
This is ridiculous as you cannot fully fulfil this order.
It is unbelievable that you think you can get away with doing this to your customers.
I have not picked up any of the items yet and wish to cancel this order.
It is very disappointing after all these years being your customer to be treated like this
Absolutely appalling
Ordered a lens filter in late August 2024. The website said it was in stock and I received an email a few days later which said that it was being shipped shortly. I had paid priority shipping to ensure it got to me before I left to go overseas a couple of weeks later. It never arrived before I left. I finally received it over six months later in mid March 2025. Absolutely appalling. So glad it wasn't anything more significant or more expensive. Avoid them like the plague.
Misleading Sales Promises and Zero Communication
When you call up interested in a product that’s not in stock or requires ordering, Georges Cameras gives the same generic response: “4–6 weeks” for delivery. "Are you sure?" you ask, "Yes" they respond. Sounds reasonable—until 9 weeks pass and you’re suddenly told “we have no ETA on your order.”
What does that even mean? A business has no clue whatsoever what is happening with an order that they cannot provide an ETA?!
Why is post-sales communication so poor—especially for customers spending thousands of dollars? Why is it so hard in 2025 for a business to provide basic updates, communicate delays, or explain what's going on? The sales lies need to stop!
Instead, they wait until you’re frustrated and emailing the brands you bought directly to ask them about orders made before giving you the real story.
This feels like a game of sales:
You ask about a product.
They say “4–6 weeks.”
They send a quote and invoice.
You pay.
Then… silence. *Sounds of crickets*
Weeks later, they admit they still don’t know when your order is coming.
Really? No ETA at all? Am I waiting 20 weeks? 6 months? A year? "We do not have a confirmed ETA for its arrival."
Update: cancelled order and got a refund, total waste of time!
They just take the sale and leave you in the dark. That’s what Georges Cameras does.
Be mindful of this business. I won’t be ordering from them again.
I liked shopping here?
I ordered some items which were in stock on the website, and got an email stating ‘ready for collection’ the next day.
I think a lot of the people who write bad reviews for this shop have placed orders for things that were not in stock at the time. Definitely look at the details.
Staff in store were helpful and answered my questions with patience and understanding. It was also SUPER busy in the shop. Took about 5 minutes to get assistance from a staff member (and they had heaps of people working) because they were packed with customers. Slightly chaotic but they clearly know their product knowledge very, very well.
Scam Merchants
Ordered 4 things 10 days ago, after a few days they emailed to advised the were out of stock of 1 thing which I advised them to swap out for a cheaper but similar product, they did not refund me the difference, then yesterday, 9 days later I get an email stating they are out of stock of 3 of the items now to which I replied cancel the order, as is my right in Australia, they replied saying they would charge me a 10% fee for cancelling an order they didn't have and could not fulfil, obviously I said absolutely not and I have every right to expect a full refund, not only did they ignore me but today they sent 1 of they items just to be smart.
Never again
Wish I had read the reviews before buying anything from this company, ordered camera film on the 8th Dec 2024 it is now Jan 10th 2025 and I am still waiting,no response from 2 emails sent … never again 😤
Order #73549
Do not buy from this vendor… I have just spoken to customer service about my order, which I paid ‘express shipping’ for. There is nothing express about it. It’s meant to be 1-4 days, so given I placed the order one week ago, it should have arrived. However, I’ve spoken to customer service and they have informed me that although the product is in stock, it hasn’t been transferred to the warehouse, which means it won’t get shipped until Monday. I’ve informed them that I leave the country on Wednesday but no consideration has been made and now I face the possibility of my lens arriving when I’m outside the country, with no means or returning it.
Absolute joke of a service.
I initially contacted them inquiry…
I initially contacted them inquiry about a particular BenQ monitor, most companies out of stock.
Georges said low stock and to contact them.
Last Saturday I phoned and was told due in couple weeks from supplier. So I thought I'd stupidly pay but was told couldn't take payment.luckily misplaced my bank card.
Yesterday I phoned after work. Yayyyy they had one. Couldn't take payment over the phone but would send invoice and link. This made me nervous.
They emailed the invoice straight away but I noticed incorrect BenQ model, so I tried phoning but wouldn't pick up.
Emailed them back but guess what ? No response!
Managed to order elsewhere.
