Pressure selling

Pressure selling.

I was told that I needed to but the most expensive pair, although I only have mild to moderate hearing loss. When I said I didn't want to spend that much, the audiologist gave me a laminated piece of paper which gave basic details of a clinical study linking hearing loss and dementia. When I proceeded to ask for the basic/cheapest pair, he told me "if am going to spend so little to go elsewhere because he won't sell them to me". He actually said that! I felt he was rude and borderline aggressive. My question is, if Boots basic hearing aids are so terrible that the audiologist refuses to sell them to me, why are they an option for purchase.

Very friendly Audiologist Chris. Understood exactly what I was experiencing and recommended the best type of hearing aids for me. I was able to make a very informed choice for my personal requirements.

Disappointed

Boots Hearingcare Review
I attended my fourth consultation regarding my hearing on 4th April. The first was aborted by Boots as “…you were given the wrong length of meeting”. Strange as I booked online and was given no choice in the length of the consultation.
The shop in Northwich is strange. It is light and airy, and you walk into an area surrounded by walls full of display spectacles. Around the area are several islands of meeting tables. To the rear is a large separate area filled with what is apparently equipment for testing eyes and eyesight. Adjacent are three mismatched plastic chairs against a wall.
Initially then you stand in the middle of a busy shop with nothing to focus on. There is no reception area, nor even a desk you can approach. You wait for someone to notice and approach to ask how they can help. You are asked to sit on one of the three plastic chairs.
You are ushered into a small office, marginally larger than a broom cupboard. Once the door is closed the office is quite claustrophobic and stuffy, you sit virtually knee to knee with the hearing consultant, in my case “Chris”. Tests on my hearing were carried out and I was shown several graphs and told my hearing was particularly bad. Their flagship, top of the range, aid was recommended. Chris assured my that in his 44 years in the profession (a fact he seemed necessary to tell me about many times during this and subsequent consultations) this was the best hearing aid to have ever been designed. Chris just happened to have one “in stock” and fitted it to me. I was suitably impressed and armed with the knowledge of a 90-day money back, no questions asked guarantee, I forked out the hefty sum of over £3,500.
All was not as it seemed, the gloss soon wore off. I found the aids did not appear to perform as I had expected. The “tap ear to answer a phone call” never worked and calls occasionally broke up or simply dropped.
Sound on TV’s was different and difficult to listen to no matter what aid settings I tried. When I connected by Bluetooth it was much better and very natural, but again broke up, stuttered and dropped for several seconds at a time. I was told the aids would not connect to TV’s. If I wanted to do this, I needed to purchase a separate device (circa £200).
Zoom and Teams meetings on my PC were similarly impossible. During one meeting it was so difficult I removed the aids and donned my Bluetooth headphones, embarrassing!
At one point I wondered if the devices were faulty or perhaps ex returns. Chris assured me that was not the case.
I concluded that whilst these flagship hearing aids were very good for everyday use as a basic hearing aid, they did not perform well (or at all) in other areas I had expected. On my final visit to Boots I returned them for a refund.
I’m not sure what to do now. My hearing is poor and needs assistance, but I will not be seeking it with Boots.

Boots hearing are Northwich Cheshire
I received a professional and exceptional hearing examination with Chris Lambert. His explanation of my hearing problems was informative and extensive.
The session include the hearing test and listening to different voice levels and my interpretation..which was very poor.
My wife was also included in the visit and encouraged to give her view on my hearing
profile.
In conclusion I would thoroughly recommend Boots hearing care and particularly Chris Lambert at Northwich

Everyone should try it out...

I went to the Boots in Northwich.
I was met by a man called Chris and he tested me for my hearing loss. It was very indepth and technical. In the end I chose a pair of hearing aids
of which were, I think, very reasonable but expensive at the same time!!
I was able to buy them with a deposit and then a monthly payment (no interest). Otherwise I would not have been able to afford the hearing aids.
I was well looked after and I highly recommend the quality of service I was shown at the Boots in Northwich.
I knew I was slightly hard of hearing but when I had the aids in I was so shocked how much more I could hear!! Thank you again Chris, I look forward in collecting them in July 2024!!

A New World of Sound

Upon arrival my wife and I were greeted warmly. Our hearing requirements were reviewed and then the available hearing equipment was explained.
I was then hearing tested in a sound proof box, which determined my hearing loss.
I was then asked to listen to to 6 sentences and asked to repeat. This to me mostly sounded like jibberish, however my wife was able to understand all 6.
I was then fitted with a pair of heating aids to my needs, which was unbelievable as regards my now hearing ability. We then were asked to take a walk around the store and outside to test other environments.
They were fantastic. A pair were ordered, with pick up in a week.
These hearing aids will replace others, I had purchased 14 years ago. Technology since then has now made hearing aids so much more effective for the many situations that exist.
I left the store feeling elated as I would now once again feel part of the conversations around me.
I recommend that anybody with hearing loss pay then a visit and open up a new world of sounds once again. Thank you
