Making Claims Impossible.

I have a Aviva private health insurance for nearly 30 years. I have continued my premiums with them every year, since I was diagnosed with a chronic condition, at the time I was told I would be covered for this as I was diagnosed, after I took out my policy. I haven't made any claims since. Recently, I tried to claim through their cashback scheme for staying in a NHS hospital for a overnight treatment. When I tried to claim the cashback, I was told I wouldn't be eligible, as it was a "chronic condition", it wouldn't be covered. This shocked me,as I had previously been told at my every policy renewal, I would be covered for this, as I was diagnosed with my condition after taking out my policy. The agent was not helpful at all, and even told me, if I wanted to cancel my policy, he would give me the no for the cancellations team. Is this how they treat their loyal customers who's been them for years, and having not even made a claim? This was my main health condition, why I was paying my premiums for. So, there didn't seem to be any point continuing with my premiums, if I wasn't going to be covered for this.
The agent had no empathy whatsoever, so I had to leave my review here to warn other Aviva customers, that Aviva would make any claims, impossible, so I wouldn't recommend them.
Not a happy customer.

Thank you for sharing your experience ⭐

We can understand why this has left you feeling disappointed, especially after being with us for nearly 30 years. Having maintained your policy over such a long period and then finding that a claim wasn't covered in the way you expected would understandably come as a shock.

We hear your concern that you had previously understood your condition would be covered because it was diagnosed after you took out your policy. When expectations and outcomes don't align, it's important that the reasons are explained clearly and sensitively.

We're also sorry to hear that the conversation left you feeling unsupported. When discussing something as personal as health cover, customers should feel listened to and treated with empathy, particularly when they're seeking clarity about their benefits and options.

Your feedback highlights how important clear communication and compassionate support are throughout the claims journey. Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. UPDATE to my previous review: four months later, my car is repaired — but Aviva still won’t get me back on the road

This is a continuation of my previous review, “Four months and counting — authorised repair still going nowhere.”

Aviva publicly replied to that review on 9 July saying their team was “working hard to get [me] back on the road as soon as possible.”

Well… here is the update.

My car has finally been repaired. But I still cannot have it back.

The repairer has confirmed today that the vehicle is complete and ready for collection, but it cannot be released while Aviva requires a disputed £1,000 excess to be paid. At the same time, the courtesy vehicle understandably now needs to be returned.

So, after almost four months waiting for Aviva to progress the repair, I am now facing the prospect of having neither the courtesy vehicle nor access to my own repaired car.

What makes this particularly difficult to understand is that Aviva previously told me in writing that, based on the information provided, I was not considered at fault, that they would pursue recovery from the other insurer and that there was:

“no need to speak to the other insurance company, we have it all in hand.”

Aviva also appointed solicitors to pursue the matter, who confirmed in May that they were awaiting a response from the third-party insurer.

If Aviva still required some further formal confirmation before the excess issue could be resolved, why was this not dealt with during those months — and, crucially, why was my vehicle eventually progressed into repair without making absolutely clear that I could end up unable to get it back without paying £1,000?

I have formally disputed the excess and asked Aviva to review the claim records and recorded calls.

This is no longer simply about a delayed repair. It is about the way the claim has been managed from beginning to end and the very real consequences this is now having on me and my family.

Aviva said publicly that they were working to get me back on the road.

Four months later, my repaired car is sitting at the body shop — and I am still not back on the road.

I will update this review when Aviva responds.

Aviva, a true dinosaur of car insurance!

Aviva car insurance are just ridiculous.

As an existing, long term client of Aviva products, they chase me for years to purchase their car insurance, which I do. Upon renewal after the first year they send me an email saying they can’t insure me any more for ‘underwriting reasons’. No specific detail given whatsoever. Not even prepared to provide a higher quote!

I then go online directly with Aviva, enter all the same details as before and get a new quote immediately, albeit 100% increase!

Their system is broken and, quite frankly, has been for a while with other products I am signed up for.

The management really need to start fixing the issues sooner rather than later.

Update in response to Aviva’s poor reply.
I am not still on board, I only got a quote from them to demonstrate that despite being told they would not renew that I could still purchase from them! That’s ridiculous!
What is the point of showing me a link that doesn’t get me to speak to anyone. Aviva made it clear by their email they are online only and will only physically talk to customers with claims, not to anyone else. This is another reason why Aviva are a bad option!
Furthermore, as a result of this fiasco, I am considering moving my other Aviva products elsewhere to a company who truly understands customers and loyalty.
The response by the ‘Social team’ only highlights the disconnect and service levels.

Aviva Zero customer support

Aviva Zero car insurance, as far as I understand it the name "Zero" refers to their customer support, if you understand that, then it does what it says on the tin.

They don't appear to have a phone number for anything other than making a claim
