Sold us a dangerous car!

My partner bought a white 24 plate Golf R from AA Prestige. We drove up to Datchet to pick it up on 25th April. Brought the car home, all seemed well until a week later. The airbag light came on on the dashboard. My partner rang AA Prestige who told him to take it to the local VW dealership and get it looked at.
He took it to the Volkswagen dealership in Yeovil, who told him that the car had been in an accident. My partner had had a check done on it when he purchased the car but because it was not fixed through insurance, it did not show up! Outwardly the car seemed fine but to the trained eye it was obvious all was not as perfect as we had been led to believe. The airbag was not connected up correctly either and would not have deployed in an accident. Obviously we were unhappy, so my partner called AA Prestige who said they would take back the Golf R and he could have his car back (thankfully they hadn’t sold it yet!).
The Golf R was back up for sale the same day that it was received back on the forecourt, for the same price - no mention that it had been in an accident or had a fault.
I called AA Prestige asking about the Golf R on their website. I asked specifically if there was anything wrong with it, to be told it was ‘perfect’. When I told them I knew it wasn’t, the salesman on the phone got defensive and said ‘it doesn’t matter as it isn’t your car anymore, it’s ours’. They would have willingly sold me this dangerously faulty car again without a second thought! The car has now been sold again… god help the person who bought it. Hopefully the airbag light comes on again before the 30 day limit is up!

Adam and the team are brilliant

Adam and the team are brilliant! I can’t rate them highly enough. Honest, genuine car sales garage. I’ve had 2 cars from them and they’ve always gone over above to look after. Brilliant!

Poor service from this company I would…

Poor service from this company I would suggest to do every check possible before you purchase a car from them
They sold me an Audi SQ5 with the wrong size turs fitted to it and then told me to go to warranty company and they will take care of the issue. After talking to the warranty company they said warranty does not cover tyres and the seller should replace them asap they are not fit for purpose. The in return said we will not be doing anything about it and warranty do not cover tyres after leading me to believe they did. Bad after sales and I suggest paying a little extra and going elsewhere

Shocking Aftercare

I wouldn't go anywhere near them! Bought a Land Rover Discovery.

All fine whilst selling the car but aftercare is shocking. Immediately I got home a coolant light was on, they had it back to fix, then driving it home the light came on again and they had forgottten to fill it with collant after repair.

Then within first week, Power Steering issues, meant I couldn't take it back as too far to drive it as dangerous to drive. They said to take somewhere local to me and warranty would cover. Warranty didn't cover diagnostics or fix, as it was electrical, which isn't covered. So out of pocket. Rang and messaged multiple times and didn't get any response to my request to be reimbursed.

Next week after Power Steering Issue, the car went into limp mode and had Restricted Performance. Again I couln't drive back to them to fix as too dangerous at speeds it was doing, so crawled it round to local garage for another diagnostics and subsequent lambda sensor issue and repair. Again AA Prestige refusing my requests for reimbursement.

As I am writing, yet another warning light 'Resticted Performance' light has triggered, which again I will have to get fixed.

Long and short of it is, I wish I knew how this garage operates and I would never have bought from them. So be warned!

Disappointing Experience

Disappointing Experience - Would Not Recommend

I had hoped the previous negative reviews were overly critical, but unfortunately, my experience has been equally disappointing.

When purchasing my car, I expressed some concerns as it was my first time investing in a higher-end vehicle. The team at the garage were initially helpful, reassuring, and professional. However, within 24 hours of driving the car off the forecourt, the engine warning light came on.

Over the past three months, I’ve experienced ongoing mechanical issues, culminating in the car now being in limp mode and not safe to drive since I live near a motorway and cannot go above 40mph. Rather than offering meaningful support, the garage has distanced themselves and directed me to WarrantyFirst, who have also refused to cover the full cost of the repairs accumulating to nearly £2000.

As a young female customer, I feel my concerns have not been taken seriously and my follow-up emails have largely been ignored.

Based on my experience, I would strongly advise others to consider alternative dealerships. I regret not doing so myself.

Keep browsing

Purchased a car which then broke down 3 days later, I requested a courtesy car due to the inconvenience and a car was delivered but was untaxed!! When delivering the car the driver cleared the fault and drove the faulty car which went into limp mode back to the showroom. I at this point requested a full refund and it took 97 emails and 5 weeks for a negotiated settlement. This included deducting an amount from the total paid!! My advice would be to buy elsewhere as my experience was very stressful and unlawful.

Avoid at all costs

Avoid at all costs! Dangerous business that doesn’t care about road safety.
Knowingly sold us a car that was not safe to drive and unfit for purpose.

We bought a car from AA Prestige on 2nd January 2025. The car had passed its MOT in December 2024 with no advisory’s.
We checked the online reviews beforehand and had a fantastic experience with them when we were there. We were all set to leave a really positive review.

Fast forward a few weeks into having the car. The car started struggling to start after journeys, didn’t happen every time so didn’t think much more into it at the time. The rear wiper fluid also wasn’t working.
Then the brake warning light came on.
We booked it into our local garage to run a diagnostic at warranty’s request.
While we were waiting to take it to the garage- the coolant warning came on.

The garage ran the diagnostic and the brakes were completely worn out. He said it absolutely shouldn’t have passed its MOT or at the very least been an advisory. Said the amount of miles from MOT to now there was no way it could have got that bad in that time.
All of the other issues were things that should have been picked up on the presale check which we were told had been completed.

All of this work was £2500 and warranty would only cover £230 of it.
We contacted AA Prestige and they seemed sympathetic and wanting to help but not actually helping.
Unfortunately we were just 2 days out of the month to be able to get a refund on the car but we had been advised that the brakes as a minimum should be covered by AA Prestige if not all of it.
After weeks of back and forth, ignoring our calls, saying they need to speak to management but they’re not in today, they’re in tomorrow, call back then, they don’t work weekends, call back Monday, they’re working from home for the week and can only communicate through email. Eventually after a lot of back and forth they said they’d fix the issues if we paid them £1000. We would have to pay over £700 to get the car to them as we don’t live nearby and we were told that the car was unsafe to drive.
During this time they lied to us twice which we have in writing. One of which that they’d contacted warranty to see if they could cover any more of the bill, we spoke directly with warranty and they had no such communication. The other saying that what warranty were covering was as a goodwill gesture, again we asked warranty and that’s not the case, it’s covered as standard.

With all of this in mind we absolutely didn’t trust them to fix our car

While all of this was going on we were without a car and we have 2 young children and there was no attempt to help with a courtesy car or to speed things along.

To add insult to injury, we went to pick up the car with our 3 month old, so they let us drive away in a car that was not safe to drive

The whole situation has been distressing and we’re just so grateful that we caught the problems when we did so nothing fatal happened to our family or anyone else’s.

To conclude, they’re either not doing their checks properly- MOT or presale, or they are and they just don’t care that they’re not up to safety standards
