Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Looking at 250 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Many customers reported that their appliances, including washers, stoves, refrigerators, and microwaves, stopped working or malfunctioned shortly after purchase, some within months or a few years. Reviewers frequently encountered issues with product quality, such as a washer tank rusting, a dryer stopping after 10 minutes, or a refrigerator light failing prematurely, indicating a lack of durability. The customer service was widely criticized for long wait times, unhelpful representatives, and an inability to resolve problems, often leading to frustration and repeated calls without resolution. Many also expressed dissatisfaction with the warranty process, finding that advertised 10-year warranties did not cover critical parts or that service providers were unwilling to honor them, leading to significant repair costs. Conversely, a small portion of people felt that despite initial damage, their issue was eventually resolved with a replacement and follow-up, suggesting some positive outcomes in specific cases.

Worst washing machine and company...

Worst washing machine and company out there. So many issues with a less than two year old washing machine and they only pay so much for service and only provide certain parts. Every time one thing gets fixed, something else breaks. I've got water all over the floor and a loaded washer. Back to dumping money at the laundry mat. I'll never buy whirlpool again...

Whirlpool's customer service sucks!!!

Whirlpool's customer service sucks! Last month I purchased a Whirlpool over the range microwave from Best Buy. It was installed by a subcontractor for Best Buy. The replaced model was a Whirlpool over the range microwave (same specifications as old microwave which I had for more than five years). Same watts and amps. Never had this model caused any electrical problems. Had the new microwave for less than three weeks and it started throwing my breaker (twice in six days). Called Best Buy and they said they would only over this item for two weeks (see my Best Buy review), contacted Whirlpool about service/warranty. Got hold of Whirlpool and they sent out a repairman last Thursday. All he did was look at my controls and look at my breaker box. Said it was my breaker and told me to run extension card from new microwave to a garage electrical outlook then left. He did not measuring of my amp or watts output from new microwave. Called Whirlpool to complain and they said they could not do anything until hearing back from repairman. After several more calls and three days later, I still have a microwave that is not working correctly. Am very frustrated! Went ahead and purchased new breaker. If new breaker throws again after installation, Whirlpool needs to pay me for new microwave and for cost of two breakers plus installation.
4/27 Whirlpool customer service finally got with me. Said my home is too new. That all there appliance need less sanative brakers. That I need to call the company that makes my breaker and find one that is less sanative. What a bunch of BS!!! So now I have too new of a home. Will be filing a formal complaint to Attorney General and Better Business Bureau. They can't write this crap up.

Stay away from Whirlpool

I purchased a new home with Whirlpool Appliances throughout. The Freezer back wall froze to a solid block. I called under warranty and the repair man said this is a common problem. I then had a wash machine (Model WTW4855HW3) that ran a total of less than 10 loads before it started making horrendous noises and stopped working. When I called a local service company out, they said that this happens to this model all the time. Whirlpool had a recall on the machine, but when I tried to get service, they said it could take 3-5 weeks. I called another local company and they had the part installed the next day. Whirlpool, of course, denied that there was a recall or that they were delaying the repair so now they won't pay for the repair. Save your money. Stay clear of Whirlpool. They have no desire to help their customers or stand behind their brand. Their customer service team reps of Andrew and Lindsay lied about the recall and lied about reimbursing the repairs.

NO SETTINGS ON RANGE "WSES5030SZ"

We have half a dozen Whirlpool appliances in 3 units we own, all bought because of the previous Whirlpool honesty and dependability, now all gone. If there was a zero rating It would apply. Bought range WSES5030SZ with feature of selectable volume warning function, a major reason for selecting this model. Manual clearly states to bring up SELECT and proceed, but there is no SELECT on the panel and not found via WIFI, where their Tech suggested it was. No solution via CHAT (waisted time), none via phone conversation with a Tech, none via several emails and none after 3 letters to Customer Service, mailed to somewhere in Minnesota. Last 2 replies, each after a month or so by someone named Victoria, whose answers connotate that, either she has absolutely no comprehension of what the problem is or she is trained to play evasion game. Her reply was to follow the instructions of the Manual and our question was: "Manual says to do that, but there is no "SETTINGS" to be found. Last we heard from them was in February and our last question to that useless Costumer Service Office was: "Don't you get it, Victoria, Manual says GO TO "SETTINGS, SELLECT ....", but there is no SETTINGS to be found. Where is it? Is Manual wrong and range has not that feature or is the range defective?" That was on February 4, 2026, last of the communication, range was purchased sometimes in the last quarter of 2026. Wouldn't you label those people NICE and and HIGHLY professional?

Have a whirlpool dishwasher

Have a whirlpool dishwasher. Does not wash dishes at all. Called in to service since it is only 6 months old. They scheduled an appointment for someone to come out today. Got a message today that no one could make the appointment and that I would have to make an appointment. Called in to get another appointment. Got one scheduled through the service scheduler at whirlpool. Got a call from the company that they had scheduled the appointment with who told me that they wouldn’t be available that day and that it would be a week before they could possibly get me in. I called the service scheduler and informed them that this was unacceptable and that they needed to do something about this. All they could do was say I am sorry but we can’t do anything about this for you. I will not be buying anything else that is made by Whirlpool. I just got done buying a different brand dishwasher.

Terrible!!!

About six months ago our dishwasher went out and we bought a whirlpool to replace it. This whirlpool dishwasher by far is the absolute worst dishwasher I have ever had! I DO NOT recommend buying on, and I will never buy another whirlpool dishwasher again! It is terrible!!

Absolute garbage product and even worse…

Absolute garbage product and even worse customer service.

This Whirlpool upright freezer completely failed just TWO MONTHS after the warranty expired. No warning, no gradual decline—just stopped working and destroyed about $1,200 worth of meat. That’s not a minor inconvenience, that’s a major loss.

Then comes the insult on top of it. Whirlpool’s “solution”? Pay $500 for a so-called “one-time” repair… or pay $500 for an extended warranty. Let that sink in—the freezer itself only cost $700. So they expect me to dump nearly the cost of a brand-new unit into fixing a barely-used, already failed appliance.

No accountability, no real support, just a cash grab.

A freezer should last YEARS, not months. This is a poorly built piece of junk backed by a company that clearly doesn’t stand behind its products. I won’t be buying Whirlpool again, and I’d strongly recommend others look elsewhere unless you’re okay gambling your food and your money.

Apparently no repairs on Whirlpool appliances only service contracts

Needed a repair on our Whirlpool fridge ice maker. The Whirlpool service number transferred me to Domestic & General, who tried to sell me a service contract (on a 10 year old fridge.) When I said I need to talk with someone who can set up a service call, they said that's them. Said a service call would be $537.03 - despite Whirlpool's own service web page says $230-$360 range for fridge repairs. Also had to PRE-PAY.

We've got Whirlpool ovens, cooktops, dishwasher, fridge. We've had several repairs over the last few years. NEVER had to prepay for a service call. NEVER had one NEAR that cost. I was assured that if we cancelled we'd get a full refund. We scheduled a call. Was told we'd get a confirmation email.

Never got a confirmation email.

We thought about paying $537.03 for a repair on a 10 year old fridge and decided to cancel the call and shop for a new fridge. Called to cancel, and after 40 minutes of hold (two different transfers) was told our call was cancelled, and we'd get an email confirming that and the refund. When I questioned that since never got a confirmation of call email, "yeah, we know, hasn't worked for awhile but we're back office and that's front office."

Got the email. It said we were cancelling a SERVICE PLAN and not a SERVICE CALL. And the refund was less than what was charged. We asked for a SERVICE CALL.

When I called in to ask why no full refund, I was told that they prorate service plans. I explained I did NOT buy a service plan, but a single service call, I was told they'd open a case and a manager would get back to me in 6-10 business days to explain the charges. Not REFUND but EXPLAIN.

So. My conclusion is that Whirlpool, now with their contractor Domestic & General (previous repairs did not involve them), no longer do appliance repairs unless under service contract, because when I called for a repair, they automatically made it a service contract.

We're shopping for a new fridge. Won't be a Whirlpool, KitchenAid, or any other Whirlpool brand, because apparently now they don't do repairs, only contracts. Cost of ownership will be too high since you can't get them repaired without buying a service contract. Whether you ask for one or not.

Disappointing quality and costly support for a basic issue

I’m extremely disappointed with Whirlpool. I purchased a refrigerator just two years ago, and the interior light has already failed—which feels like a basic function that should last far longer.

What made this even more frustrating was the customer service experience. I spent an hour just trying to get through to a representative, only to be told that the appliance is out of warranty and the repair would cost around $500. For something as simple as a light, that’s completely unreasonable.

At this price point, I expected better quality and much better support. Appliances are long-term investments, and this experience has seriously shaken my trust in Whirlpool. I won’t be purchasing from them again.

The absolute worst of everything

I would give this brand a negative review if I could. I purchased a new washer in March of 2025. Before it was delivered, we had a flood and installation had to be delayed by one month. When it was put in, it immediately didn't work. The retailer I purchased it from replaced it for me as a courtesy (their policy is within 48 hours for appliances). The replacement started malfunctioning within the first couple of weeks. Between May of 2025 and today (4/20/26)- Maytag has sent a third-party service provider to my house no less than 10 times to "fix" the washer. At their last visit on 3/16 the technician said "if this happens again call Whirlpool back and tell them we don't even want to be called again, its a waste of time. This machine needs to be replaced." The machine broke again on Friday 4/17. I call whirlpool and they tell me that, despite 10+ service calls on an almost monthly basis for the exact same issue, despite having had every part of my washer except the actual drum replaced, and despite that the last service was 32 days prior to it breaking AGAIN... they won't replace it without ANOTHER service call by the third party service provider because their "policy" states I have to have had the machine serviced within the last 30 days because "since it's been more than 30 days it may be something different." It's never been anything different in the last year. Not once. It's always the exact same issue. But nope, no exceptions to the policy. And the best part... I have to pay for this service visit because my machine is now over a year old. It's precisely 12 days over the 1 year mark. And I purchased an extended service plan when I bought it. I expressed my concern that this exact thing would happen when they fixed the machine last month... I said, it's going to be a year old soon... what happens if this time doesn't fix it just like all the other times. I was assured that because this is an issue I've had before, it would still be covered. Looks like that was a bold faced lie. Never again. I will never again buy a Whirlpool anything. Their appliances are crap, their customer service is non-existent and they send a third party to service it but then don't listen when the third party says it can't be repaired. Awful awful experience.

Four month old refrigerator

Four month old refrigerator. Two weeks to get a technician out. Control board failed. None in stock. Be prepared to wait six months. One service center in our region to cover 9 million people. Be advised, Maytag, Kitchen Aid, Jenair, Amana and Roper all made by Whirlpool.

The 12 month warranty is worthless…

This is covered by the 12 month warrenty. Side by side refrigerator. We came back from vacation and the Ice macker stopped making ice. It dispenses water and ice in the hopper. Called whirlpool. "We will have to locate a service provider. 2-3 business days." A week later no call. Got an email. 'Upon receipt of your email request, we will order the parts and send them to your residence at no charge.
We ask that you pay the service technician for the labor and send in the invoice for up to $200 reimbursement for any functional failure as determined by the service technician.'

Called customer 'servicing' Support does not exist. I was informed there was "no service provider was in my area." Granted I live in rural Mo. I called my local service provider 60 miles away. They said they stopped doing warranty service for Whirlpool. 12 months ago, they paid them $112 for a service call whether is was one trip or several. If they had to order parts and then service the refrigerator. they got only $112. If there was a delay in getting parts over 30 days, they got paid only for parts and not the $112. I was told by their tech that Whirlpool Ice makers frequently go bad. They would charge me about $400 to replace my Ice maker. I might get my $200 reinbursement. No service provider could stay in business with that reinbursement structure. There is NO warranty service.

Refridgerator bought new in October 25…

Refridgerator bought new in October 25 from Whirlpool. Ice maker has been dumping water into the fridge for past 4 months. We are on tech visit number 7. They have replaced 6 parts so far and refuse to replace the unit. Cost to me has been 7 days off work and over 1500 lost food. Their customer service reps are nice, but their hands are tied by this horrible companies processes. They refuse to just replace fridge with like. We are now just replaceing parts that have already been replaced! Its IMPOSSIBLE to get an escalation. as a Whirpool customer of over 30 yrs, with approx 15K of their appliances in my home right now, this is my very last Whirlpool Purchase.

April 12- Day 42 without a warranteed…

April 12- Day 42 without a warranteed Whirlpool washing machine-purchased from Famous Tate October 2025. It broke down March 2. Flamingo appliance called 3/2. They sent a service tech out March 12 -which wasn’t unreasonable. Gear case all chewed up. Part ordered on that day. Then I waited and waited, and after numerous calls to Famous Tate, Whirlpool -(who was expediting part?). Finally got an e-mail 4//6/2025 stating part was in. When I called to schedule appointment 4/7 was told the next available appointment was on 4/20. Been waiting this long and it’s gonna be another two weeks?? Told the person I spoke to on the phone that this was unacceptable yet there’s nothing I can do at this point but wait for clean clothes as they have my needed part. So frustrated with all 3 companies involved and will be sharing the same review on all of their sites. FamousTate said they reached out to whirlpool with a return authorization request on 3/30 -I assume that was asking for a new washing machine because a new one could be delivered in 2 to 3 days-(and mine was obviously defective) they told me I should have some notification within 24 to 48 hours. I got nothing. Few days later I called whirlpool again….they said they had nothing on file about return authorization but part ordered had been shipped. I’m copying and sending it to all three companies involved because they’ve all had plenty of time to fix this issue. I was considering buying a new one elsewhere -next day delivery but this is new and under warranty. So glad all these phone calls were recorded so that folks in these companies hopefully will step up. Thank you for your time. I’ve spent hours and hours and hours on the phone for a month and 1/2 dealing with this issue and I still don’t have a working washing machine forty two days later! So frustrated!

Constant repairs needed

In the first year and a half of owning our whirlpool products, every single one has needed maintenance/service. Our dryer after one day, our oven after 6 months, our dishwasher after 10 months, and our washer after 17 months. Two repairmen have come to fix our dishwasher in separate occasions and have told us they found and fixed the leaking problem, but it’s still leaking anyway. Luckily our other appliances have been fixed after one visit. But it’s ridiculous for new products to need this much maintenance.

Buyers Beware.!!

I bought a Whirlpool side by side fridge from Lowes...biggest mistake of my life...this unit has been a lemon since day one which was 30 days late arriving from Lowes. The repair company Whirlpool uses can't guarrantee the $328.00 repair they did will fix all the problems including not cooling enough to keep our food safe...we have lost $500.00 of food twise now. The freezer won't stay cold enough for the ice maker to make ice and the water dispenser hasn't worked since day one...did or has Lowes offered us a replacement or refund...nope...neither has Whirlpool. Buying whirlpool is exactly like flushing your money down the toilet...BUYER BEWARE..!!

Whirlpool has the WORST customer service!

I purchased a new Whirlpool microwave in 2024. I have had multiple error codes (E7-E9). I called for service and the "preferred' vendor could not service the microwave due to part issues. I had them back out today. This is a known issue with my particular model. The parts come to nearly $500. I spent the last hour on the phone with customer service. They will do NOTHING! What an absolute joke.

Horrible quality.

I replaced all my appliances a year ago, the fridge and dishwasher were Whirlpool. The others were GE and Electrolux, which I have had NO problems with at all. The two Whirlpool appliances have been nothing but trouble. Multiple repairs on both, and both still have issues. The freezer door had problems from day one and eventually was replaced, but it still has the same issues. Water leaks from the dispenser, and condensation accumulates and drips off the edge of the door.
The dishwasher wasn't drying and eventually was repaired. Now that it works properly, the front panel is rusting! It's a stainless steel panel, it shouldn't rust. Whirlpool doesn't seem to want to take care of this. I'm very disappointed, I expected better from a company with the stature of Whirlpool. They lost my business, I'll buy any other brand in the future.
