Unison Pastel 5 day Challenge -Julie Walsh
I have recently completed a Unison Pastel 5 day challenge with artist Julie Walsh. Julie described each step of the process clearly. The reference photo used for the challenge was great because it left room for artistic interpretation. I learnt new techniques and really enjoyed the experience.
Great product & staff
Unison colour pastels are a fabulous product to use. Coverage is great and colours are rich. The staff are very helpful and I enjoy taking part in their paint-a-longs.
Enjoying the beach in November
Plenty of tips, useful whatever your experience and standard of work. Shows the generosity of the company by not pushing their products but showing by example. You get the feeling the demonstrators love what they are doing, and genuinely want to share.
I took a 5 days workshop with Julie…
I took a 5 days workshop with Julie Wash and just love it. I have learnt so much during those days working on a landscape. Julie was well prepared and suggested some colors to use and took her time to show how she does the painting and also, everynight, she answered the questions. Another i portant fact was that it is recorded so, being in Canada was easy to follow without any stress. I also love having 5 days to achieve this painting. Short lesson every day . Thank you Unison and thank you Julie.

Another successful Unison 5-day Soft Pastel Challenge
i was fortunate to be one of over a thousand participants worldwide taking part in Unison Soft Pastel's 5-day challenge hosted by artist Julie Walsh. The theme was "Take me to the Beach", using a reference photo of a sandy track leading to a Cornish beach. This was my third Unison soft pastel challenge and was as enjoyable as the previous ones. Each day Julie posted a short video of our proposed goal for that day, demonstrating techniques, etc. and we were also supported by daily worksheets. We were encouraged to post photos of our "work in progress" to the website for comments, support and helpful tips from other participants. Each evening there was a live Q and As session with Julie, answering our queries and giving advice on various topics that had cropped up during the challenge. I would urge anyone who enjoys pastel painting to sign up for any forthcoming ones - I enjoyed it enormously, gained lots of useful info and am looking forward to the next Unison pastel challenge!
Masterful Teacher!
Julie has a charming, down to earth, and witty conversational style. She was also very knowledgable, and her explanations were clear. I liked the way she did a demo each day to emhasize key points. I was sorry the class was over so soon!
Julie Walsh 5 day challenge …
Julie Walsh her 5 day challenge was fantastic, learnt so much and with Unison pastels giving us the experience of tutors like Julie who gave up so much of her time and made it interesting by breaking down into the 5 days and giving on line video Q&As each evening this was so helpful so look forward to the next challenge thanks Unison and Julie Walsh
The 5 Day Pastel Challenge with Julie…
The 5 Day Pastel Challenge with Julie Walsh was everything I was looking for as an emerging artist. The subject matter was interesting without being complicated and her generous teaching answered the questions of how the choices we make will influence the outcome. I am grateful to both Unison and Julie for the opportunity to learn and have fun.

Tricks and techniques revisited
I have painted in pastel for many years but my work needed livening up. I found with Unison organising 5 day Challenges and other workshops an ideal chance to revisit some techniques . I hadn't used alcohol to fix layers before but this definitely helped. The rich velvety colours Unison produce also added more depth so I am saving up to increase my Unison pastels. I also found Julie easy to relate to and approachable ..I was very pleased with my work using these different methods. Thank you.
Totally the best experience
Totally the best experience. Even though I am in Australia I felt like I was part of the group. Evening talks were set at a time it was possible to get up for. I learnt a lot and Julie was an excellent teacher aiming for the middle ground and really encouraging of the work. There was little in the way of direct product selling although it definitely assisted if you had the right pastels - that was obvious.

Unison’s Beach Pastel Scene with Julie….
I liked how Julie showed us actual steps in the process of creating the painting. She demoed how she uses her pastel. It was good because she showed us, then we did it, and we could ask questions of her later in the day. I really like Unison pastels because they are so vibrant. I want to learn more about using them and also layering the pastels as Julie does. I liked the format of the class, too, on Facebook.
Unison colour challenge, my first experience so exciting
For my first Unison Colour 5 days challenge, it’s a great experience. The choice of the subject and learning with Julie Walsh was a pleasure and I’m sure to use wet under painting for some of my future works. Thanks for all the Unison Colour staff. Unison pastels are so beautiful and nice to use.
I’ll surely be back soon for a new workshop and wait for my last shopping on your website! It’ll be Xmas before the real day when I’ll receive my new pastels
