Lease Buyout Nightmare
I have leased vehicles through Toyota/Lexus Financial Services for many decades, with no issues. They even gave me lease extensions during the COVID years, when I was reluctant to go car shopping--or anywhere!
But I am writing about my current experience.
My lease is up at the end of this month. I decided to buy the car, since leasing a new vehicle (same model, different year) would have cost nearly twice what I am currently paying--BEFORE the tariffs that are making America great and certain corporations and individuals wealthier--go into effect. So I phoned Toyota Financial to get the buyout information and documents.
First of all, the company is technologically in the dark ages. Maybe even prehistoric.
Although they were able (at my insistence) to send me he paperwork I needed via email, I had to print, complete, and return the documents to them (by mail) along with a paper check for the buyout amount plus sales tax. They even sent me a form for California residents, though I live 3,000 miles from California.
They are incapable or doing electronic bank transfers, accepting credit cards, etc. Just paper checks. (Fortunately, I still have a checkbook, but the last time I used it was 2007.)
So, I did what I was supposed to do, and sent the documents and check to Toyota via Priority Mail. Tracking indicated that it was delivered on 3/26.
Eight days later, my bank records showed that the check still had not been cashed. I phoned the company, went through their annoying telephone menu, and after about 10 minutes, I got a "human" (and I use that word loosely) on the line. He was an arrogant and extremely unhelpful young man, whose only response to my inquiry about why my check had not been deposited was, "It takes 10 days for processing," and it was only day 8. I imagine that for them, processing means opening the mail, then sending an employee to the bank to make deposits, since they are incapable of conducting business electronically.
The rep could not or would not tell me how long it would take, once my documents were "processed, "for the bill of sale and title to be sent to me.
And how would it be sent? By US mail, of course, which lately, in my experience, has been taking up to a full month for cards and letters to be delivered. They would not send my documents by Priority Mail. My only alternative was to pay an exorbitant fee for FedEx overnight service.
It is now 4/5 or 11 days since Toyota received my check, and it still has not been deposited.
To compound the absurd wait, Toyota will not transfer the existing vehicle registration to me, which means that I have to go to DMV and wait for hours to register the car in my name. But wait....
They have no way to inform me when the documents I need to register the car have been "processed" and mailed. The current registration, in the name of Toyota, is due in 3 weeks. In all likelihood, I will have to pay to renew the existing Toyota registration, then go to DMV and pay AGAIN to obtain new registration in my name.
This is possibly the WORST customer service I have ever received in my life.
I asked the arrogant customer disservice representative if he enjoyed working for a company that made things as difficult as possible for their clients, and he merely repeated that "processing takes 10 days."
One more thing. I had been told a while ago that I could do the buyout through the dealership from which I had leased it. I thought that would simplify things and had intended to do that. However, when I met with someone at the dealership, I was informed that I would have to pay $900 in fees and various service charges for them to do the transaction--plus title and registration fees to the State. And they also would accept only cash or a paper check. Thanks, but no thanks.
All I can say is, that if I ever want to lease a Toyota/Lexus vehicle again, it will be through a bank, NOT Toyota Financial Disservices.
It’s really, really bad THEY DON’T ANSWER THE PHONE EVER!
Wow, what can I say about Toyota redline finance. Had the misfortune of financing my son’s car through them. All is fine until you need to contact them.
I need a settlement figure as I want to clear the finance. I’ve emailed them and wasted hours and hours trying to get through to them. It just rings out constantly and I’m sure there’s nobody at the other end. Not sure how you settle a finance agreement with a company you cannot contact? I guess that’s the intention.
Save yourself the frustration and do not use these jokers for your car finance.
P.s I tried to register online to bypass this farce but it said I need to speak to them first - which I’m still trying to do….
Shame on you Toyota Financial Services
I have 12 payments left on my loan, all my payments have been on time and on most occasions even early! So when my husband was diagnosed with cancer I immediately called TFS to ask for help, all I wanted to do was take my next two payments and add them to the end of my loan. I was approved for this immediately and the gentlemen I spoke with (on 2/24/25) couldn’t have been nicer or more caring. Done, I had two months where I could concentrate on paying my husbands medical bills and not have to worry about scraping together a car payment.
Fast forward to today (3/28/25) when I receive a letter in the mail saying I am behind on my car payments AND I am being charged late fees!
When I called the customer service number I was told they never received the necessary paperwork I HAD MAILED to them. What?!
Soooo….no phone call to me? They know WHY I was asking for deferred payments, they asked me why when I initially called….so why no follow up about not receiving the paperwork?! Just a you owe this amount letter in the mail??
I WILL NEVER buy a Toyota OR finance ANY vehicle through Toyota Financial Services ever again. They have lost a customer, actual, more than a few customers now that I posted my story all over social media to family and friends.
I asked for help….instead I was ignored and then demanded money from. If this effects my credit score, and I will check, they better be prepared, because I will be holding them responsible.
Beware people. Beware.
They lost my payoff check.
I sent the check to payoff the lease. Three weeks later they don't have it. The whole time they told me not to pay the lease because the check was coming in. So now, I'm paying interest on the loan and late fees on the lease. Absolute garbage company.
If I could give this company zero Stars…
If I could give this company zero Stars I would. Payments taking at least a week to come out of my account and that's if I still have the money by the time that week is up because I live paycheck to paycheck and all of a sudden I think my bill is paid because it's been a week and then two weeks after my payment was due I finally get the email saying that the payment failed. There is no reason that it should take a week to get an email telling you that your payment failed next thing you know you're a month behind because then you got to make another payment to cover the one that failed and it takes at least a week to process AGAIN. Then I get to hope that I can afford to keep that money in my account for that week until they take it out otherwise, 2 more weeks go by before they notify you and text thing you know your ANOTHER month behind. Nothing but issues with the app and the website constantly saying sorry there's a problem on our end. How am I supposed to pay my bill if I can't get through to anybody or log into my account. Customer service is absolutely terrible. I just want to get my loan paid off and never have to deal with this company again.
DONT FINANCE YOUR VEHICLE LOAN THRU…
DONT FINANCE YOUR VEHICLE LOAN THRU TOYOTA FINANCIAL!!! I had loan thru them for my 2020 Toyota 4Runner. Paid off loan this month. Called them to ask when Id get title and confirm loan acct will be closed, only to be be told that since loan set up with auto- pay that they would continue taking out a monthly withdrawal EVEN AFTER LOAN PAID OFF!!!!! I was told the only way to stop this was for ME to access my online acct and cancel the "Recurring Payment". And they NEVER answered me as to when Id get my title....but then in my experience with all prior vehicle loans with much more reputable and honest companies or dealerships, once final payment went thru, they did indeed close my acct, didnt steal any of my money once loan paid off by continuing the monthly withdrawal, and were intelligent enough to have a system in place to recognize when a loan paid off and sent my title to me in and efficient and timely fashion with no work required on my part.
$47000 payment gone!
Payment in full request done on Toyota platform on March 5th.
Payment authorized and taken from my account on March 6th ($47k).
Today is March 17th and Toyota still doesn't know where's the money.
I sent them my bank account statement as a proof of the stransaction and they still repeat their lack of knowledge and that I should just wait. No time limit.
They dont escalate the file, they don't transfer the call to a manager, nothing. All they recommend is waiting.
I'm in the process of a new mortgage I'm definitely impacted with debt ratios because Toyota doesn't want to confirm that my loan is paid in full.
I'm looking to protect myself with a lawyer.
Poor customer service!!
Poor customer service!!
Waiting is over an hour every time you call!
& just spoke to the most arrogant agent in the world. Disrespectful and nosy- keep your unsolicited questions to yourself.
Need to heavily invest in better equipment and staff and work on efficiency
Now seeking legal advice and in talks…
Now seeking legal advice and in talks with BBC You and Yours.
This abysmal company has accidentally put a financial agreement on our car - when we HAVE NEVER BEEN CUSTOMERS. We are now unable to sell our own, privately owned car on because of a mistake made by the people who work at this terrible company.
I am 36 weeks pregnant and have our new car to pay for and now have a 3rd car to insure, tax and are unable to sell.
We have wasted hours trying to speak to this customer service and complaints department. They didn't call us back when they said they would. We have waited 30 days for the incorrect finance to be removed and it still hasn't. All they have done is recognised my formal complaint has been received.
We are now seeking legal advice, in talks with BBC You and Yours, the FCA have logged the case. I advise others being treated poorly by this company to do the same.
Let me remind you - we are NOT even your customers. The people who work here should be ashamed of how they treat people. Just one glance at these reviews show you the level of decency at this company.
Abysmal customer service
Abysmal customer service. I sat on hold for over an hour on consecutive days this week, and had to give up both times. Shocking service.
the worst customer service😡😡😡
This has got to be the worst evr…
This has got to be the worst evr customer experience. Been trying to discuss options on renewing a finance agreement. Emailed address in letter with no response. Made 5 phone calls this morning and finally got a call back. I have been transferred three times and last one went on hold or 25 minutes then when answered they cut me off……
Avoid like the plague
Avoid like the plague. I paid the my car off in full and was charged an early termination fee, even though the lady said i wouldn't. It's been 2 weeks and all teh credit companies have that I still have the finance. trying to sell my car and it comes up that i have finance still on the car, though it has been paid in full with the confirmation letter. I now can't sell the car until this is all sorted.
AVOID!
AVOID!
Applied for finance on a car, and was approved straight away, then told in the morning by the dealership, something was flagged up, and I had to supply three monthly bank statements to prove my earnings, and were they guaranteed for life??
I sent them to them, and then was told, could I prove my earnings are what they say they are?, they just had my bank statements?
They don’t make any sense at all, and think they actually get pleasure out of being awkward!, and treat you like something on the bottom of your shoe!
Needless to say, I decided not to go with them, and will find a ‘reputable’ finance company that knows what they are doing!
Avoid like a Plague - Frustrating Experience with Toyota/Redline Finance – Poor Communication and Transparency
I gave my car back and agreed with Toyota/Redline Finance. I recently received a letter from Toyota/Redline Finance regarding arrears on my account. While I acknowledge the existence of arrears, I challenge the amount they have stated.
I've tried to resolve the matter, including sending multiple emails, but none were responded to. I also sent two letters via recorded delivery, both signed by the company, yet I have not received any acknowledgement or reply. This lack of communication is incredibly frustrating.
I have requested a breakdown of how the outstanding amount was calculated, but I still have not received any details. I am also unsure about the vehicle's final sale price at auction, as agreed, and have not been provided this information. Key details about my account are being withheld.
Additionally, I was sent an Income and Expenditure form to arrange a payment plan, which I filled out and returned. Despite this, I have heard nothing back from them regarding my request for a payment arrangement.
In their recent letter, there was mention of an agreement that I do not know of. I have attempted to contact them several times but have been left on hold for over an hour (atrocious), only to be left without assistance.
The gold standard for Incompetence. Whatever you do, avoid these quacks.
Absolutely shocking service … told 5/10…
Absolutely shocking service … told 5/10 minute delay , had to hang up after 60 minutes , tried today told 30 minute delay, gave up after 90 minutes !l
Horrible
Horrible, horrible horrible. Although I have not been exactly on time for my car note, I always make sure and pay before the 30 day mark before it is reported late to the credit bureau. I have no problem playing the late fees, but Toyota financial has decided to report it late, even though I pay for long before the 30 day mark, they now are telling me that there’s nothing they can do about it that I have to write them a written letter, stating that I think they wrongfully reporting my account they told me to reach out to the credit bureaus. I am a credit repair specialist. The credit bureaus cannot do anything. It is on the lender to fix it and correct it being that Toyota million dollar business and this is the way that they have treat their customers mind you I have called them about this several times and each time they give me a different response and tell me a supervisor is gonna call me back and they never do.
Really terrible customer service
Really terrible customer service. Can’t even get through after waiting 3 hours - I have the screen shot.
My car was stolen the insurance paid…
My car was stolen the insurance paid off the settlement figure and not even a courtesy all are a letter informing me that they have recieved the payment, to make matters worst they still went into my account and take out the monthly payment and they are close on the weekend and opening hours wait time is over an hour.
Very bad service please be careful
This is a less than zero stars…
This is a less than zero stars situation.
Toyota Financial Services (UK) are unresponsive, muddled and in complete disarray. It’s more or less impossible to get through on the telephone and their opening hours are not useful if you have a job - ringing in your lunch break isn’t enough time to get through.
Email is even worse. Response times very long or not at all.
TFS have managed to put the new finance agreement for a car I used to own annd part exchanged onto my app.
They have also altered the direct debit and taken payments for a car I don’t own anymore. I’ve cancelled the direct debit and I am paying the correct agreement via debit card while they ‘investigate’
Meanwhile, the current owner of my previous car is defaulting (through no fault of their own)
They send half replies, replies that don’t answer the questions asked and despite multiple queries about why I have someone else’s finance agreement on my app- they won’t reply to this- or remove the agreement.
I finally gave up with ‘customer support’ after two weeks and emailed complaints. 4 days later I received a cut and paste response informing me that they would investigate and I would hear back ‘within 8 weeks’
They then took a direct debit payment for an agreement that isn’t mine.
I emailed customer experience detailing the horrible experience I had had so far. Guess what. It’s 4 days later and I’ve not even had an acknowledgement.
Toyota cars are excellent. Toyota Financial Services is not. I’ve been a loyal Toyota owner and I change my car very frequently. I think my next step will be to get my supplying dealer involved but I shouldn’t need to be using up all this time and energy trying to sort out their admin error 🤷♀️
