Toad Hall Cottages Reviews 

We have just come back from another lovely stay in a Toad Hall cottage in South Hams. This time we stayed at Little Cumery which was great- peaceful and very well equipped. We always use Toad Hall cottages for our annual Devon holiday - they have a great selection of cottages and we now have our favourites which we choose depending on whether we bring our dog with us or not! We have been using Toad Hall for about ten years. The service is good, cottages are always clean and supplied to a good standard and we have never had a problem, hence we keep coming back to them year after year! Highly recommend.

Everything at the property was as in the brochure and even the weather played ball.
Would heartily recommend Smugglers Cott,The Golden Guinea and the Peking Garden for good value and quality meals with good prices and service.The boat trips from Looe are good value ,we saw dolphins,a great assortment of birdlife,seals and amazingly ,Giant Blue Fin Tuna.A great holiday.Chalk Fleet Golf at Saltash have a great facility for adults and children including a brilliant crazy golf for all.

Great locations for places to stay.
Staff in the Lyme Regis office are friendly and helpful. They are always at hand to help if there are any problems.
Communications re booking and our holiday destination via email are really good. We like the payment instalment scheme too.

We paid an £800 deposit for a seven-night stay but had to cancel when our daughter was unexpectedly offered a short-notice NHS appointment for an important operation. We had no realistic choice but to accept it.

Toad Hall Cottages rebooked five of the seven nights and told us we would receive a refund for any dates resold. We reasonably expected the deposit to be apportioned across the full seven-night stay, with only the amount covering the two unbooked nights retained.

Instead, they allocated almost the entire £800 deposit against those two nights and refunded us just £60. This calculation was not clearly explained in their terms and conditions. Had it been, we would never have booked.

When we challenged this, we were repeatedly dismissed and told that the “matter was closed.” It was only later explained that they apply the deposit against any unsold nights, rather than dividing it fairly across the original seven-night booking.

Despite our daughter’s unexpected operation and five nights being successfully resold, they retained £740.

We found this unfair, misleading and completely lacking in compassion. I would strongly advise others to think very carefully before booking with Toad Hall Cottages!!

I have been booking through Toad Hall for many years and always found them to be super responsive and helpful. This year I did a split holiday, the first week through a different company. The difference in customer service was amazing - I naively assumed that everyone would be as fab as Toad Hall -absolutely not!! I will definitely be sticking with Toad Hall whenever possible in the future and I recommend everyone else to do the same (but don't book my favourites!)

Second time staying in Devon via Toad Hall Cottages. Lovely welcome pack including cleaning supplies which was unexpected and a nice surprise. Property as described and small issues were dealt with extremely quickly. Would recommend.

The staff are very helpful with queries and the description of our property was accurate. The cottage was fairly priced for peak season, contained everything we needed for cooking, was clean and homely. We enjoyed our stay.

Booking process was easy and efficient and was kept up to date through the whole process. The accommodation was even better than described and was very clean. We accidentally left behind an item of property and they were very helpful in getting it returned. Used Toad Hall Cottages a few times and have never been disappointed.

Toad Hall cottages are really really good. The only reason that this is not a 5 star is the property itself. It’s a bit tired now for what we are charged. I think 2026 was our 4th or 5th year there and it’s never been updated. The cleaning is also not great and first time ever we were not left the usual welcome parcel of tea etc which was always a nice touch. They have re introduced towels which was good. Haven’t had those for a couple of years. The location is lovely but really the owners could invest in new beds with better mattresses and provide some fans and a hairdryer. Toad Hall themselves react so fast and are always helpful and positive. Shame the flat itself lets them down.

2 Ivy Cove is a comfortable family cottage in a perfect position by the beach and the coastal path

We always use toad hall when we head south west. Fab cottages at great value. We’ve never been disappointed

We have just returned from a fabulous week at Little Breeze in Stokenham. The property was perfect for the 2 of us. It was clean, well located and had everything we needed. There was a lovely outdoor area and a good welcome pack - coffee, tea etc for when we arrived. Cannot fault it.

We have returned here many times as we love it because of its location. The balcony overlooks Hope Cove and its beaches, and we have had wonderful weather so eating out there is idyllic. Access to the flat is up the short steep hill and there is no parking except for dropping off using a shared space off the road. The owners make quality improvements annually so it’s well equipped and very comfortable.
Toad Hall cottages deliver booking that is human and easy

I have been booking through ToadHall cottages for the past 5 holidays. All the properties I’ve stayed in have been presented to such a high standard. Beautiful, simple furnishings and so clean and tidy. I really couldn’t recommend them more. South Devon is a very special place and evokes so many happy memories, staying in a beautiful cottage enhances the experience

We have stayed with Toad Hall Cottages before and enjoyed our holidays. The website gives really good information about the property with accurate descriptions and location information. This year, while the house exceeded our expectations, the housekeeping completed for our arrival was poor (hence reduction of one star). We dealt with the issues ourselves and the omissions did not spoil our holiday.

We did report this on departure with photographs of the shortcomings. The Toad Hall team was apologetic, assuring us that this was not the service they aim to provide to guests. They advised us that had we contacted them upon arrival, they would have sent a cleaning team in to rectify the housekeeping issues. My point was that it was not practical to wait for a cleaning team to empty a dirty kitchen bin, clean debris from a dishwasher or remove perishable items from a fridge.

In summary, our holiday in Salcombe was wonderful and we would not hesitate to recommend Toad Hall Cottages for the very best holiday homes in Devon and the South West.

They did not advertise the chosen cottage clearly enough. No mention of it being at the top of a steep hill, causing my mother who has mobility issues a lot of anxiety. We wouldn't have picked the cottage if this information had been mentioned. When we complained there was no apology, but they tried to blame us for not checking the location more thoroughly ourselves! They were happy to take our money £4.5k but refused us any compensation to pay for the taxis we had to order because they wrongly advertised on their website.
Not a friendly company. Not going to book with them again.

We return to the property year after year

Easy to book with. Been using Toad Hall for a few years. Just had our sixth visit to Limpet cottage in Torcross. Stunning views across to Start Point light house. Perfect little property to expore South Hams or just chill out looking at the view
