I had a very poor experience with Roof…

I had a very poor experience with Roof Maker.

Before placing the order, I specifically asked how installation would work and whether the skylight could be brought onto the roof. At no point was I told that scaffolding would need to remain in place or that access through the property would not be sufficient.

After paying over £4,400 (including installation), I was then informed that scaffolding was required and the installation could not proceed as expected. This was never disclosed during the quoting process.

The lead time provided was also inaccurate, which further impacted planning with my roofer and added unnecessary disruption.

I also emailed multiple times asking whether the existing scaffolding would be sufficient and received no response.

Within 2 days of ordering, I requested a simple size adjustment, which was refused.

Overall, key installation requirements were only revealed after payment, communication was poor, timelines were unreliable, and there was no flexibility or willingness to resolve the situation.

I would strongly recommend getting absolutely everything in writing upfront before committing.

EDIT: Being accused of “abuse” for simply asserting my consumer rights says everything you need to know about this company.

Communication was fine while they were taking payment, but as soon as the money was received, responses became vague and unhelpful or non existent. I was left in the lurch with contractors on-site, without clear guidance on installation requirements.

When I raised legitimate concerns and asked for clarity, including requesting a recording of the initial sales call (which I am entitled to request under data protection law), this was refused.

Rather than resolving the issues, they chose to label my concerns as “aggressive” and disengage.

I am now considering further action based on how this has been handled.

Hi Paul,

I was happy to try and help here until you started to abuse my team.

Saying things like "I will bury you..." to my team, along with serious rudeness just won't be tolerated, we don't need this type of behaviour in our working lives.

We haven't even supplied you with a roof lantern yet but your behaviour is completely unacceptable and so I have 100% refunded your payment after the aggressive emails and phone calls you made to my staff. I won't stand for bullying and looking at the reviews that you leave people it's not a nice way to behave.

You should have known 100% the exact sizes that you required when ordering and not blindly signed an order confirmation which is used for manufacture.

Good luck in the future.

Rachel is adorable very nice lady to deal with.
Thank you for your hospitality and hope we meet again.

Avoid this company: Six months of stress and a faulty product

I would give zero stars if I could. I paid £2,614.56 for an electric skylight that has never worked. Despite following all troubleshooting steps and exchanging many emails and calls over several months, the issue remains unresolved.

The company acknowledged the motor is likely at fault, but they haven’t sent the engineer they promised. If you value your peace of mind and your money, look elsewhere. Six months later, I am still stuck with a faulty product and terrible aftercare.

Be VERY cautious if considering electrically operated windows from this company

Our windows had only been installed for two years when the motors started failing and gaskets peeled away. Customer services were non-responsive and evasive. Installers were poorly skilled and did not fully repair the issues. Eventually customer services are ignoring us completely, not even responding to emails. Issues are unresolved and ongoing - which burns somewhat given the amount spent on this contract.

Poor Long Term Product Support

I will start by saying that as a product, I am very happy with our opening roof light, which we had installed as part of an extension 6 years ago.
My criticism relates to customer service and what appears to be built in obsolescence. Our window has stopped working, and I have exchanged e-mails with the company to see what needs to be done. Customer service have been helpful to a point, but it has been a bit of a struggle.
It seems that the motors and controls for our window are now no longer available.
I do understand that products have to evolve, but not being able to provide spare motors and electronics after 6 years does not, to me, appear that the company is willing to keep previous customers happy. Other companies may provide better, or worse, customer support, I don’t know.
I have been given a quotation of £2,154.00 including new Control Box (current box unsuitable for new motors), 3 new motors (current system only uses 2 motors, apparently, old motors will not work with new control box), labour and VAT, to fix the problem.
This cost has been based on e-mail exchanges, videos and photographs, there has never been any suggestion of a review by Roof Maker or sub-contractor so the cost must have been generated by educated estimation.
I think we are going to be left with an opening rooflight that doesn’t, (open that is)

Avoid Roof Maker Ltd - when things go wrong they gaslight you

The issue with this company is that it takes no responsibility when things go wrong. After we had the skylight installed, there have been multiple mechanical faults and each time they are trying to claim it our fault. They won't come and repair it unless we make an upfront payment.

UPDATE 14 APRIL 2026: With regards to the response from Roof Maker below, the "solution" in question required us to pay £828 for their technical team to come back and fix the issue. We have made the full payment and are currently waiting for them to come by the end of the month. The 2-year guarantee should have covered this but Roof Maker took no responsibility and we had no choice but cover the cost.
On a different note, we are still waiting to hear from Roof Maker regarding a further issue (i.e. water infiltration within the double-glazed glass). @Scott Nicholas Would you please ask Molly to get back to us as promised. It would make sense for the technical team to look into fixing both issues at once.

Skylights

When we enquired to order 2 x skylights we found the lead time to be much more than other competitors had quoted, and not being able to secure a specific date before paying, the reason why we didn't order on this occasion also was, we found them to be much more expensive than other competitors even when paying for an express delivery.

Sorry we can't find any reference of you on our systems, no quotations or emails and our delivery lead times are amongst the fastest in the industry with 5-7 days.

We even have some products ex-stock so I'm thing this could be a competitor trolling us?

Kind regards

Very poor customer service

I bought two roof lights from roof maker. one was fine but not the other one the blind didn't work. The customer support was un responsive and even though they told me dozens of times that things would get sorted it never was.

After 6 months of chasing customer support I had to threaten to take them to court to get the issue fixed.

Once the formal letter before action was received I got a much better service and the fault was fixed. It was a dodgy motor. The product had clearly not been fault tested before sending and build quality isn't great. But we do now have a working blind, they get 2 stars for service but the product itself is more like a 4. Unfortunately when building a house you need both.

Brilliant and fast, good customer service

Even though I’m based in Scotland and Roofmaker are around five hours away, Stella was brilliant at arranging a visit as quickly as possible. The motor had worked perfectly for almost 10 years before finally wearing out. From my first call, Stella acted straight away and booked the fitters in. They were polite, efficient, and replaced the motor quickly. Excellent service all round.

Great customer service

Stella was extremely helpful and gave me plenty of options when my glass shattered after a roof tile fell onto it. I’d already been concerned about heat build-up in the summer, and Stella explained this could also be improved when replacing the glass, which was really reassuring. Great, knowledgeable service throughout.
