Evaluating 45 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Longtime users frequently complained about massive, unexpected price hikes that drastically increased their monthly costs without providing any noticeable improvements to the aging platform. Some reviewers were not happy with the complicated cancellation policies, noting that they were forced to pay extra fees and unwanted charges even after ending their subscriptions. People also mentioned facing extremely long wait times on the phone and receiving completely unhelpful customer service when attempting to resolve technical problems with their email accounts. Consumers felt that the company no longer values loyal clients, leading many to migrate their services elsewhere.

Rackspace Not the first choice

I am writing this review based on my recent direct experience as a customer of Rackspace Email. Unfortunately, the service no longer meets the standards required for a professional business environment.

1. Technical Failures in Webmail:
The webmail portal has become increasingly unreliable. Specifically, the search function consistently fails to return results, making it difficult to find critical records. Additionally, attempting to purge the inbox does not work as intended, leading to manual folder management issues.

2. Sudden Price Increases:
The company has implemented significant price hikes with what I consider to be very short notice. For a business service, this lack of predictability makes it difficult to manage overhead costs.

3. Spam and Security Concerns:
The volume of SPAM and Phishing emails reaching my primary inbox has increased significantly. The current filtering system appears unable to catch these threats, which creates a genuine security concern for any user.

Conclusion:
Between the technical bugs, the lack of effective spam filtering, and the sudden cost increases, I can no longer recommend Rackspace as a primary email provider. There are now much more reliable and cost-effective options on the market.

Astronomical Price hikes

Recent price hikes pushed our Cloud VM server costs from around £1600/mth to over £6000/mth within just a few months, with little notice to adapt or react.

Their Cloud Servers are also not configurable enough and bandwidth fees have become astronomical.

They are running the business into the ground as prices are at least 4x to 8x what is available elsewhere.

We are now in the process of migrating servers.

Unexpected price increase and billing after cancellation

I was a Rackspace email customer for many years at approximately $12/month. Recently, my rate increased to $36/month. After noticing the change, I contacted support and requested cancellation.
Despite this, I was still charged $36. I was then informed that a 30-day notice period applies, so the charge would stand.
While I understand companies have billing policies, the combination of a significant price increase and a charge after cancellation was disappointing. I would have appreciated clearer communication and more flexibility, especially as a long-term customer.

Go elsewhere…

Quality of service has dropped significantly in recent years while the price has skyrocketed. I transferred my email hosting elsewhere (very happy with the change) but upon cancelling my account they still charged for the following month. These people are untrustworthy.

I was a customer for close to 20 years, got screwed.

I was a customer for close to 20 years, and I missed 1 email about price changes. After paying for a flat rate of a 10-box package, they billed me over $100, almost 10x what I had been paying.
I called and asked them to credit me the difference, as I had not used more than 2 mailboxes in years. They refused. I am done with a company that doesn't value relationships any more than this.

In disbelief over my account mismanagement.

This is one of the strangest companies I’ve ever had the displeasure of working with. I should’ve shut down my account three years ago when they had that terrible hacking issue.

For some reason that no one can explain, my automated payment was discontinued last November. They allowed me to keep using my account for four months, it was never suspended, so I didn’t know, and they’re so archaic that there’s no tech system for an alert when there’s a billing issue or other issues that might come up.

Saturday I was sending emails to customers and now today I’m completely cut off from all communications. It’s f___ing wild!

Literally every service provider that I work with has text notifications set up in case there are any issues, but this company is from the dinosaur age.

So instead of suspending my account due to nonpayment, so I could’ve resolved it, (my account is super cheap so money is not an issue), they deleted it. I have hundreds of thousands of business emails in there, customer contacts from 26 years of running my company.

Now, instead of restoring my emails, they’re making me jump through hoops to pay the measly payment that I owe, insisting that I mail them a check 🙄, They’re also offering no guarantees that they can even retrieve my data. It’s wild that a technology company is saying “we have to check to see if we can get your data back” when we all know data is stored even after deletion.

Whatever you do, don’t use this company!

On a side note, the have some really nice (overseas) customer service agents.

Worst possible company I think I have…

Worst possible company I think I have ever ever had the displeasure of using. 20 years I have been with their service. 20 YEARS. they doubled the fee's and they would not credit for mailbox allocation that I didn't even use. Thats around 1K of wasted money. Looking at the reviews they dont care or they would do something about it. Do yourself a favour and stay away from this company, they call themselves Rackers more like Racketeering to me!

400% Price Hike!!!

disgraceful company who hiked the prices $400 with a months notice in an industry where they know their customers can't move easily.

I would rather move else where and pay more than be completely devalued as a loyal customer.

They hiked the price of my mailboxes…

They hiked the price of my mailboxes from 1.20/month to 6/month, which is ridiculous. Even if I partially understand their costs, a 5x price hike requires one year advance notice or so.
Also, the mailboxes are really not worth that price: interface and size limits were great 15 years ago, but everything remained basically the same so now it's outdated. Other email services, where I am now migrating to, offer a much more modern experience at a fraction of the cost.

10 YEARS OF LOYALTY THROWN BACK IN MY FACE - DISGUSTING COMPANY AVOID!!!

Used Rackspace for 10 years for my email hosting, with a small price rise every couple of years as expected. They sent a very brief message in a ticket in January '26 referencing what appeared to be a $1 rise in March '26, similar to their messages in previous years. What they had actually done was changed their entire cost model, so instead of the price structure of paying one cost for several users, they started charging per user, resulting in a 410% price rise. And of course, with them enforcing a mandatory notice period, this has resulted in over 2 months at these ridiculous prices. GREAT WAY TO GET NEARLY 12 MONTHS' REVENUE OUT OF ME AND PRESUMABLY EVERYONE ELSE IN ONE GO. I HOPE WHOEVER IS BUYING YOU SEES THROUGH THIS CYNICAL WAY OF INFLATING THE VALUE OF YOUR BOOKS!!!!

Long time R/S customer of both hosting…

Long time R/S customer of both hosting and webmail. After they were acquired they degraded substantially. Cut them loos for hosting a couple of years ago and as of this week webmail. Costs skyrocketed and support went down. Bad combination. And, they cheat you when you try to cancel. DId it with hosting and doing it now with webmail. Bad people are running the company now. Stay away.

Ransomed in 12/22. STILL LYING TO CUSTOMERS

Migrating all clients away from Jack Space. First of all they lied back in December of 2022 when they were ransomed. They were once a great company until India bought them then it went to shit. As a former Microsoft engineer who was on the Outlook project, I can tell you they simply suck. Lying to resellers places clients in jeopardy. Will be moving all accounts away. Given the fact that they were hacked (God knows how many times) tells you they finally pissed off all the right people. If you love rotting on the phone for support for hours on end for subpar support or make the mistake of leaving your number for a call back that will never happen, then they are the company for you.

They really do not know their product. They're ticketing system means nothing to them.

Hiked our email and cloud service prices repeatedly by 100% and more with little or no warning! This happened repeatedly so we are migrating off Rackspace as quickly as possible. I cannot recommend this company to anyone.

Ridiculous Email Pricing, Don't care about customers

From $2.99 to $10 for standard mailboxes that haven't even got a size upgrade for the cost, plus IMAP never worked correctly and often failed authentication randomly. Sadly after 20yrs of using Rackspace both personally and professionally, and sticking with them through their "security incident", I can not recommend them anymore and am in the process of migrating all my services. Pure greed, there is absolutely no way a 300% increase is due to their increased costs.

Lousy email service

Lousy email service. Clumsy interface. Service outages.
Constant phishing referencing RackSpace.
AND they just raised the minimum cost for one mail box from $12 per month to $36. Unbelievable. I moved my mail and canceled the account, which showed it would be canceled on last paid day of service, but they still charged me for another month then said "We require 30 days notice of cancellation". Glad to be rid of them

100% Increase in Fees not acceptable.

In January of this year we were informed that our fees would in crease by 100% in 30 days time (this was on top of a 30% increase in fees less than six months prior).

We requested time to review these prices as our budgets had all ready been set for the year ahead. No chance was there response.

As a result we are in the process of moving away from Rackspace.

A dreadful experience. Would not recommend them to anyone. Very disappointing.

Just terrible customer service

Terrible experience trying to gain control of our account that my controller set up years ago. She's now deceased and as the General Manager I'm not able to access the account? I spoke with a Stephanie in Mexico city (of course) although I'm sitting here with my Amex bill the one item she tried to check to verify the account she would not transfer me to her supervisor. Worst experience I've ever had, not being able to be transfered to a supervisor?? WTF??????

“Fanatical support” no more

I’ve been with Rackspace for more than 15 years and they were really great. Now, I’ve been given notice of a 100% price increase and a few short weeks to react. I’m taking this as a few short weeks to look at alternative hosting companies. This isn’t the “fanatical support” that kept me with them for so long.
