Quite disappointing

Booked an oven clean on the 12th November for the 21st November at 12:15pm, was told on the phone the process, rough time it would take and then made payment on the phone.

The day of the clean we had a chap called Phillip arrive who was friendly and early arriving which was a bonus. He was here for around an hour and a half to an hour and 45 minutes. After the clean, I noticed some things that weren't quite right, such as white, sticky residue on top of the hobs, black grease on the floor and an oven protective mat left in the sink with loads of grease over it.

I called the office who got Phillip to come back and sort these problems out, that was all fine, no problems with that. Due to me working, I couldn't fully check what he'd done as I needed to be in a meeting 10 minutes after he left.

Upon checking the oven after the meeting, there was still quite a lot that hadn't been done, I sent photos to the office and they re-booked a clean for the following week with a chap called Matt.

Matt arrived the following week and I found him to be quite combative and awkward, he told me that the oven looked fine from the pictures he had been sent, but was not sent the pictures that I'd forwarded to the office.

He also said that as it was a re-visit, he was only allowed an hour to clean, which is something I was never told by the office.

Once he left, I had a look round and it was better than before, but for the money OvenGleamers charge, I was expecting more, it just feels like the bare minimum is done whilst charging a premium price.

It would be great to know exactly what cleaning steps were done on our oven compared to what we were sold on the phone as I still don't believe they did everything that we were told they would do.

I would have rated this more and I actually wanted to rate this more, but after 3 visits, I'd rather not use them again and go for someone local.

If you would like to contact me further about this, then please respond to this review and I would be more than happy to share further details.

Hello Adam thank you for the review for your New World Range Cooker cleaned in Westbury Wiltshire.

Looking at the photos taken by Phil and Matt our Bristol Team did a great job in cleaning your range cooker. But unfortunately because of the age of your cooker there was existing enamel damage on your range which means it looks like parts hadn't been cleaned.

We did the full strip down deep clean cleaning all the bits most of our competitors miss and we used only Eco products in your home unlike our competitors. So we arrived on time. We stripped down the bits we could and dipped those and cleaned the rest with eco products. And polished up to make it gleam.

We do the full clean which means we clean all the racks and side supports, the fan cover, the fan, the whole cavity of all the compartments including the warming drawer on your range. We ensured that every part of your range was cleaned to perfection.

We are sorry you weren't impressed by the gleaming result but we did try our hardest to make your old cooker perfect.

We cleaned your range cooker out of area hence the increase in the cost of the clean.

I'm not sure non eco products used by our competitors would have got the same results, so because of that I'm struggling to recommend competitors in your area for you to use next time.

Graham Rogers Founder.

Grabbed the payment - and didn't do the job - poor, poor 'service'

We ordered an oven clean in the North Somerset area, and the operative spent a total of 68 minutes at the property, though there were considerable gaps where she left the house - a maximum of 50 minutes cleaning. It was a different person indicated on the information supplied, so perhaps a last-minute replacement. She was friendly and courteous but had no workclothes on. We were not aware she had finished, as she left unannounced, so there was never any check that we were happy with the job.

On inspection, it became clear that the control knobs, door edges, and handles hadn't been touched. There was also food debris in the vents. I called the office, who arranged to send her back that same day. She duly arrived, wiped down the handles and the controls, but could not clean the food debris, as she didn't have the right tools for the job - she stated that the only cleaning they could was with cloths/pads and cleaning fluid. She left after 5 minutes. When we turned the oven on, both bulbs were blown (not sure how, but there you are), so we shone a torch inside. The top oven had not been cleaned at all.

When we had first received the quotation, we were told the clean would take 1.5 to two hours, would involve for example dismantlement and cleaning of the doors, internal fans, and oven walls, and any blown bulbs would be replaced.

None of that happened. We ordered some bulbs on Amazon over the weekend.

We contacted the company but the calls were not picked up. I left a message. We did not get a response, so, as the matter was time-critical, we finished the cleaning ourselves. Following the weekend, we still hadn't heard anything, so I called and spoke to Catherine to explain. She offered to send another cleaner round with a toothbrush (presumably to clean the vents), but clearly, this was not going to work. Apparently, about 50 minutes cleaning 'sounds about right', and their view is that as long as someone turns up, they have performed the service and do not offer any refund. I was however offered £10 off the bill if I ever decided to use them again - it is hard to believe, but that was what was advanced. I requested a substantial discount - not a total refund, as the bottom oven and glass seemed ok, even though the service was poor, and we had been put to considerable inconvenience. She refused point-blank.

I stated that I would therefore be seeking a chargeback with my card provider. She responded that they would dispute it, I would not be successful, and she abruptly terminated the call. What is more disturbing is that having taken my card details on booking, the company immediately had deducted the full £115 from my card three days before the half-job was even attempted.

Needless to say, I have charged back the full amount, and a complaint will be passed to Trading Standards. In the event that we are unsuccessful, the matter will be addressed at the Small Claims Court.

Hi Michael thank you for your review.

This is a job that we carried out from our Bristol office. Your photos (left on your Google review) show that we did an extremely good job except for a few minor things which would have. and did take. a few minutes to clean.

We have a team of eight operatives in our Bristol area and sometimes through sickness and other problems we have to change the operatives around on jobs to ensure that we can carry out the appointment on the exact time it was booked in for.

We take payments in advance for the safety of our team as we have had our office broken into in Bristol - looking for cash - and one of operatives was stopped and threatened with severe violence if he didn't hand over 'the cash;. So over the past twelve years that we have taken money in advance we have created a business that is known for not carrying cash in our vans.

With the vents, on your Belling standard double oven, this is older style oven and over the years I've had real problems cleaning these vents on your brand of oven so even with the 'right tool' these wouldn't have been hundred per cent clean. I'm not sure how to get lumps of grease out of holes in a grill that are so small you can't get anything through them.

We are the only company in the area to use Eco products in the home and to try and get the same results, with non eco products as our competitors use, would have caused some big issues with the painted surfaces on your oven and left behind caustic residue in the oven which our process and products doesn't do. We gained a near perfect end result using our Eco Products and process. And also because we use my own developed process we can clean ovens a lot faster that most other oven cleaning companies.

Jamie-Lee who did your clean has been working for us for over a year, is our youngest operative, and this is the first cleaning complaint she has had - she had a few technical problems when she started and I know she would have done the best clean for you as she is very customer focused and wants to 'make every customer happy'.

I will look into why your bulbs weren't replaced as they should have been. The hardware shop a short walk from where you live in Nailsea sell oven bulbs for £2 each.

All our operatives wear uniform workwear but with Jamie-Lee we have had problems sourcing larger clothes to fit her. I will ensure that going forward we work harder to source the right fit clothes, and enough of them so she doesn't revert to using her own clothes.

As far as trying to get hold of us on a weekend we are small family business that closes for the weekend and we take messages by email and our phone answering system. It's our most busiest time of year (third week in November) with the Christmas rush and with over a hundred phone calls to deal with daily we dealt with your issue as soon as we could on the Monday.

I feel that the offer made to was the right one as you demanded a 'substantial refund" and it is clear that we turned up on time, we cleaned your oven as we said we would - full clean deep strip down clean- cleaning the fan, and every detail of your oven, the doors and door glass, above the grill element and door seal using eco products and we responded to your complaint on the day swiftly to correct the issues you found.

Best Regards Graham Rogers Founder of OvenGleamers.

The OvenGleamers service - Swindon area

The OvenGleamers service, from booking right through to job completion was top notch.
Matt, who did the clean itself, was polite, friendly and very efficient - bringing a frankly pretty filthy oven back to new looking well within two hours.
We are super happy with the result, and can highly recommend this company - we will definitely be using them again in future.

Thank you Jacky. We love reviews of ovens we have taken from being filthy to gleaming. We use eco cleaning products and we get them gleaming without using strong chemicals in the home. So safe for you, your family and your pets. And this process means we also don't leave caustic residue in an oven to rust it; something which our cheaper competitors do.

Oven Gleamers - not in my case.

The cleaner took about 80% of the promised time to get my aga 80% clean.
He asked me to check his work and I pointed out a number of marks that I removed with my thumbnail.
I suggested he have another go. I could not check his work as I was in an online meeting.
I did contact the company promptly and tell them the aga was still not clean. (for example, he had clearly not cleaned the hinges or the front around the doors properly). The company said they would send him back.
This did not suit me as a resolution since he had already had two attempts and I needed the aga on to cook (they must be off for cleaning and take a day to heat up and cool down).
I asked for a partial refund - since they had provided a partial service. After waiting to hear back for nearly a week, I followed up.
I was told "they could not remove rust" (the marks I pointed out were not rust) and "they would send me some goodies in the post". That was not an acceptable resolution for me (and nothing has arrived anyway).

Hi Helen. You phoned us up to book your AGA clean in Crediton Devon and on the same call complained about the clean we did for you last year - though you didn't complain last year even when we asked you for feedback by phoning you the day after the clean as is our normal practice!

Last year we cleaned your AGA and we had problems getting it 100 per cent clean as there was carbonisation and smoke damage around the doors which we couldn't remove (checking the photos everything was spotless except for the black marks around your doors). Its very rare that we cannot remove the black marks around the roasting oven door on an AGA so the damage must be extensive.

So the question is why did you book it in with us again and pay us if you were unhappy with last years clean?

I checked the photos (from this year) taken by our OvenGleamer they were all good but still with the carbon damage we couldn't remove last year.

As for the time taken the OvenGleamer did take 100% of the time given to him for the job. You complained to us about three things: 1. rusty top plate rings - they were rusty as they are cast iron and we can't get rid of all of the rust. 2. A mark on the roasting oven door which just needed wiping off and 3. Dirt on the door hinges. This was a mistake as when polishing the AGA top at the end of the clean debris often falls on to the door hinges and these need cleaning again which the OvenGleamer didn't do. This wouldn't have required turning your AGA off.

You refused the offer of one of us returning to fix the problems. I sent you some lovely AGA branded items from the AGA Cookshop as a way of an apology. You obviously didn't appreciate this gift. Graham Rogers Founder of OvenGleamers.

Do not use this company

Do not use this company
Payment is requested upfront and when an issue is reported they do not take any responsibility for their poor workmanship
The engineer cleaned our oven which was acceptable however the rails were not put back correctly which caused the trays to slope, we corrected that ourselves
The main complaint was that our induction hob, which is glass, he scraped the surface with a razor blade and solvent.
It was after he had left our premises that we noticed a number of scratches on the surface in the direction that he used the blade
The customer relations that called us after many attempts by us to get a response stated that they would not visit to examine the damaged hob and that they considered the matter closed.
As a company please take ownership of your engineers poor workmanship.
Not a company I would recommend to anyone
They responded after approx 2 weeks saying that they could not find any details
Thes were sent same day I still haven’t received any communication
Stay away from this company
What a shambles of a company not only do they not accept any responsibility or check the issues raised they take 5 months to respond to a review.

Even now I have problems finding the job details in your database. As your name doesn't appear in it. I don't think the oven was yours but you are making the complaint. From what I can remember your complaint was inaccurate. We didn't scratch your hob as I checked the photographs taken after the clean and no marks were apparent. And using the method we use it would be very difficult to scratch it - we never have scratched a glass ceramic hob or induction hob in 20 years. But a perfectly clean hob means you will be able to see the scratches that were there before the clean very clearly. As for the side racks I remember they weren't located properly and it was just a case of putting them back on. At the end of the work you/your wife or partner were given the opportunity to check the work and to sign to the effect that you were happy with it, which they did. We have a team on the end of the phone and I know we dealt with this issue promptly.

So Far Worst Experience Ever

The measure of a company and person is what they do when they make mistakes and cause damage - this happens from time to time - what shouldn't happen is you are left with a damaged oven and are treated so so poorly and you left with a damaged cooker that you have to pay to get it fixed on top of the £££ you gave away for nothing but stress, sleepless nights and upset.

A disaster biggest regret using them, a really upsetting experience. From the damaged door seal, broken door hinges, blown fuses, being called a liar and refusal to put any of it right or to be refunded I now have to pay for new hinges and the door seal to be fitted to my once perfect just a bit dirty oven.

OvenGleamers have proven so far to be the nightmare company you read about on consumer watchdog programmes. Left feeling really upset and down and humiliated because of how I have been treated, you have a responsibility to do the right thing and at no point so far have you.

Catherine and Grahame I'd be really interested to see if you have the whole story, I can only hope that you don't and you will be horrified that a customer has had such terrible treatment I can give you every detail. Please take this opportunity to the honorable thing and refund me so I can put the broken door and seal back to as they were, perfect - before OvenGleamers caused this damage and upset and I can let other potential customers know you did the decent professional thing in the end - reputation really is everything, how you treated me is awful.

The OvenGleamer- employed by OvenGleamers Bristol - who no longer works for us had an issue cleaning your oven. We were onto the problem straight away and returned to rectify the problem the next day.

The clean was perfect. But he nicked the seal around your grill compartment. On your oven -Stoves - the seal is fixed and isn't removed, as on most ovens, when cleaning it. The nicks were about 2mm in size and was on both sides and next to the central metal seal dividing plate.

As this is a common issue on Stoves ovens and I'd say the likely hood of this happening on a clean by a professional oven cleaner is high we didn't think for this amount of damage the seal needed replacing. And if you had got a company into replace it I think they would have told you that you were wasting your money for such a minute amount of damage.

But we could make the problem less noticeable by trimming both ends of the seal to make them match. We sent someone back to your property to do the trimming but you refused to let them do the work and they left.

You then phoned the call centre staff daily demanding a refund, at times ranting at them for 30 minutes or more. You upset everyone in our small office. You were demanding to speak to me or my wife, but my wife was home recovering from a major operation. I was looking after her.

You mentioned another problem with your door saying that we had broken it but the guy had pointed this out to you before he started the clean. And on your oven it doesn't have hinges like most ovens; the main tension spring is inside the oven. A problem with the door not closing property would be a problem with that spring.

I can see that you were upset but only by your own feelings of entitlement.

Graham Rogers Founder of OvenGleamers.
