Novakid Review from a former teacher

Pros:
* a good company for beginners in order to experience the world of online teaching
* work remotely from home
* teaching materials are provided and are easy to work with
* flexible schedule (a minimum of 20 hours per week, a maximum of 16 classes per day)
*if the teacher knows how to animate their classes and if they have a fun personality, their schedule will be fully booked most of the time (the bookings only lower during summer months)

Cons:
* The TLS (Teacher Levels System) is outrageous. The teacher's level (and their hourly pay rate) is determined by comparing their performance to that of other teachers (if they advance to a higher level, another teacher will fall back and vice versa). Additionally, a great performance needs to be maintained for 2 months (no technical issues, no late cancellations, and certain number of students) in order to reach a higher level. Advancing in this company is quite difficult, yet falling back to the beginner's level and losing your bonuses is a piece of cake.
* You need to provide medical documentation proving that you suddenly became ill one day in order to avoid any penalties or deductions (but nobody goes to see their doctor every time they catch a cold).
* There is no way to earn extra income anymore. There used to be referral programs where a teacher could invite new teachers or students to the platform, but those programs were removed. Also, in the past, when a teacher would receive 10 positive feedbacks from parents, they would be credited one extra class, which stopped recently as well, The only way to earn more is to increase the number of completed classes per day,
* Numerous students are rude, bratty or in the worst case scenario, racist. Some students could completely drain the teacher's energy and will for work leading to mental exhaustion and burnout, but those students won't be assigned to another teacher since "they weren't being rude or disrespectful". If the student shows the middle finger to their teacher, the teacher needs to disregard it because "the students are too young to understand what showing the middle finger means".
* Their support team will always be on the student's or parents' side. Even if the teacher is disrespected, the support team will still respond with some sort of tips and tricks for "dealing with difficult/hyperactive students". Teachers are NOT appreciated and are underpaid.
* For each class, the teacher needs to write the feedback. The feedback consists of 4 parts: the greeting (generated automatically), areas of success (listed automatically, the teacher simply ticks off the ones that apply for that student), areas of improvement (written by the teacher), message for parents (optional). If the teacher fails to write the feedback within 24 hours, Novakid reserves the right for those classes and therefore, the teacher doesn't get paid for them. It doesn't matter that the classes were successfully completed by the teacher.
* Internet problems or power outages are always the teacher's fault, yet the students are allowed to take the lessons from their car, from a train, from a boat, etc., because telling students to have their lessons from somewhere indoors wouldn't be "customer friendly".

Hello Hannah!
Thank you for sharing your thoughts and experiences with us.

We are sorry to hear that your experience didn’t meet your expectations. Let us address each of your concerns one by one.

We believe that our Teacher Levels System is fair. It’s designed to reward consistent high performance while ensuring that all students receive the best possible education. Maintaining a great performance is a standard we set to ensure stability and excellence in our teaching staff. It’s a challenge, but it’s meant to uphold quality for both teachers and students.

Medical Documentation Requirement: The requirement to provide medical documentation is in place to ensure reliability for our students. We understand that it might be inconvenient, but it helps us maintain a stable learning environment where students don’t frequently have to search for replacement teachers.

Removal of Extra Income Opportunities: We reserve the right to change or remove loyalty programs and create new ones. These programs are complementary and not a base part of the teacher’s income. While the previous programs have been discontinued, we continue to explore new ways to reward our teachers.

Student Behavior: We always communicate with parents regarding their child's behavior, but it’s important to remember that teaching children can sometimes come with challenges. Part of a teacher’s role is to engage students and manage classroom behavior effectively. Regarding allegations of racism, we cannot comment without more details. Please reach out to our support team for further assistance.

Support Team and Problem Resolution: We strive to handle issues fairly for all parties involved. Our support team works hard to resolve problems in a way that is fair and just. If you feel this wasn’t the case, we encourage you to provide specific feedback so we can improve.

Feedback Writing: Writing feedback is an essential part of your role, and it’s something that you are compensated for. The feedback process is there to help ensure that parents are informed about their child’s progress and that the student’s learning experience is optimized.

Technical Issues: We have specific equipment requirements for both students and teachers to ensure a smooth learning experience. Additionally, we have many tools that allow us to determine where technical issues are coming from. It's not in our interest to blame teachers without investigating, as that wouldn’t solve any issues.

We truly appreciate your time at Novakid and regret that your experience wasn’t what you hoped for. We’re constantly working to improve, and your feedback is valuable in helping us do that.

Warm regards,
Elizabeth R.,
Director of Novakid Global.

Recommendation on Novakid

After trying many English learning platforms, Novakid is definitely one of the best! It’s interesting and interactive. The teachers are professional and passionate. The materials are well-designed and fun! We even tried the small International group and learned with other kids, which was an amazing way to learn English. My daughter really enjoys taking classes with Novakid!
