Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Considering 154 reviews, most reviewers were unhappy with their experience overall. Many customers reported being misled by initially low prices, only to face significantly higher costs upon arrival due to mandatory insurance, toll passes, and other hidden fees. Reviewers frequently mentioned issues with the service, including long wait times, unhelpful staff, and being pressured into purchasing additional coverage even when they had their own insurance. The location of the rental offices was also a common complaint, as many were off-airport and required inconvenient shuttle services that were often delayed or non-existent. Some people also felt that the payment process was problematic, with unexpected charges appearing on their credit cards days after the rental, and large security deposits being held for extended periods.

Absolute scam

Turks and caicos. Absolute scam. The SUV had 341,000 miles. It was covered in damage. Flat and bald tires. We returned the car as soon as we secured a safe vehicle less than 24hours. No response from management, no refund of the 6 unused days, no security deposit returned.

If you are a FL resident

If you are a FL resident, don't go there. You only get 50 miles per day. And they charge you $2500 as security. Stay away from them. 0 star. The $7 you think you are paying can actually turn to thousands.

Emmanuel

Emmanuel, who works at the NextCar desk at the BWI Hanover rental facility, was more than helpful and polite to me. I had a strenuous travel schedule last week-he is not only personable but well informed, offering suggestions and help in making this part of my trip easier.

My mom returned her rental in February 2025 and they still have not returned her deposit they have been giving her the run around through the phone and email. There excuse is a system error that they have not bothered to rectify keeping $250 of my mother hard earn money. If this is how they do business please avoid this place. Negative one star if I could

We rented in Houston and this business is not at the airport. To get the shuttle you’re supposed to call them but you’re put in a queue with everyone else and after 45 minutes it hung up and we had to wait another 45 minutes. They were dropping someone off when we flagged them down. Took us miles from the airport. We’re now 1.5 hours in when we get there and they charge us $75 A DAY for insurance even though we have our own. They wanted $14.99 a day to add my spouse as a driver. All on top of what we’d already paid when we booked the rental. Tires were low tread, crack in windshield, and a vibration when driving the speed limit. We told them all of this when we returned the car, watched them drive the car round back, 10 minutes later, bring it back out wet and give it to the next person. Now that person is on low tread tires, and have a vibration. if I could give this negative stars I would.

Deposit not returned and scam tactics

its been almost a month, and i have not received my $250 deposit back. First, i was told i was not able to use my insurance, although i have Full Coverage. Then, was charged $800 for a "lost Key", which i eventually got refunded for thanks to picture evidence i took of leaving the key where i was told by one of their reps. Im still waiting for the deposit though. I have sent several emails, and i have received replies, probably not from this location. But keep in mind, the cheap prices you see advertised, will come at a high price during pickup and after return. Your peace of mind is at stake if you rent from Nextcar.

We got scammed

We got scammed. Do not book with them or the third party companies they use. They do not tell you what car rental company it is until after you pay therefore you have no information as to when they are open/closed etc. they take Apple Pay and according to the car rental place, they should not for security reasons. We reserved a car and they took our money not allowing us to even change it for a small error. The car rental place called it a scam and are wanting to pull their contract due to the poor customer service. Everyone we spoke to was EXTREMELY rude for absolutely no reason. So so so bad. The app I use for all of my flights, I will notify them as well to ensure they want to continue using this company. It was horrible and we are out hundreds of dollars.

Caution: Poor Customer Service and Unethical Practices

I strongly warn anyone thinking about renting from this company at Miami Airport. Our experience was incredibly stressful and disappointing, especially since we were traveling with a 4-month-old baby.

We booked and fully paid in advance through Expedia for a 7-passenger vehicle with a baby car seat. Due to a flight delay that was completely outside our control, we arrived two hours late. That shouldn’t have mattered since the car was already paid for and secured with a deposit.

But when we got there, they had given away both the car and the baby seat. No apology, no equivalent replacement. Just a smaller car that couldn’t fit our family or luggage. And we were left without a safe way to transport our baby.

We spoke to the manager, Adrian, who blamed us for being late and told us to go buy a baby seat at Walmart. After a 10-hour flight with an infant, that was their solution.

We had no choice but to take the smaller car, even though we were charged the full amount. One of our family members had to take a separate Uber over 1.5 hours to our hotel with the extra luggage. We are now submitting the Uber receipt and the baby seat cost to the company and hoping they will reimburse us. We’re not asking for anything extra, just to pay a fair price and be compensated for the extra costs they caused. Based on how we’ve been treated so far, we’re not very optimistic.

Avoid this company if you care at all about service, reliability, or basic human decency.

I only give one star because there’s no…

I only give one star because there’s no option for zero stars. This is the absolute worst company of all time in terms of customer service. They go out of their way to make sure you cannot rent a car and then charge you the full cost of the car. They also say they will pick you up from the airport after you arrive. This is where the scam starts. They will delay the pick up so that you are out of the window to get your car, then say they do not take walk ups and then charge you the full price. This company is an absolute joke! Never went with them!

Rented with Nextcar (Miami) through…

Rented with Nextcar (Miami) through Armed Forces Travel/Priceline. I should have not trusted Armed Forces and check reviews myself. All reviews are negative and I had the same experience. Nextcar made me take their insurance for $151.00 or I could rent the car. I should have walked over to the Budget counter and rented but it was late on a Sunday night and, at the time, I didn't know what to do. Hind-sight is always 20/20. Stay away from these guys please.

A total nightmare

Worst rental car experience in my life. Many hidden fees, no customer service skills. It’s a nightmare to deal with staff and management! I can only imagine what they will to tourists that don’t even speak the language! It’s a shame!

Customer wait one hour to get the car

Customer wait one hour to get the car, as the staff forced the customers in front of you to accept hidden cost. I have to pay more than I had planned. I will not return. I hope all the customer read the reviews before making the online reservation. Experpedia's recommmendation for this company is no good.

They tried to push additional insurance, forceful

We have a reservation for today and it was denied to get the car unless we accept a additional insurance over 700U$, but we already have the best coverage for the car available at the time we made the reservation!
Additionally, they are rough, inflexible.
WE DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY

Accusing me of being a thief and charging my credit card with absolutely no communication an additional 170 euros for a GPS.
This, despite me sharing copies of text messages between me and the local rental office of the navigation and CarPlay issues I was having during the rental. Other secondary items include th car having over 50,000 km’s, no spare tire, multiple exterior body issues including a 6”-7” dent.

Careful with your deposit

Careful when renting from here. I have been waiting for months for them to return my deposit. I've been calling and emailing 2-3x a month with them regarding my deposit return and it just keeps pushing to the next person. No one knows anything. It is a SCAM and they are THIEVES. Still waiting for the response.

Beware of hidden fees and tricky…

Beware of hidden fees and tricky insurance rules!

NextCar advertises very low daily rates (like $20/day), but the actual price can be much higher due to extra charges and insurance restrictions.

I prepaid $50 for my reservation. When my flight was delayed and I arrived just over an hour late, they demanded another $50 to reinstate my booking and forced me to buy their insurance for $50/day.

They claim to accept third-party insurance, but only from a very short and expensive list. Popular and affordable online insurances are not accepted—this is hidden in their fine print. So in reality, you’re forced to buy their overpriced insurance.

My “$20/day” rental suddenly became $120/day ($20 rental + $50 required insurance + $50 reinstatement). Of course, I refused to rent at that price.

Because I declined these surprise charges and canceled, they kept my $50 prepayment—company policy is to keep your money if you refuse their conditions.

Other rental companies are more transparent and flexible. Here, you risk losing your money if you don’t agree to all the extra fees.

Bottom line:
NextCar’s low prices are just bait. Read all the terms carefully, or you’ll end up overpaying. I do not recommend this company.

Terrible experience

Terrible experience. Their driving license reader cannot read international driving license, and the employees are simply incompetent to read the details on it. I rented just a few weeks before, in the same location with sixt and Alamo without issues. I ended up with my rental being refused despite it was fully payed I was refused the refund. The bigger problem is that it was rented via economybookings.com and they also refuse to refund me because NextCar reported the booking as if I didnt show up. Watch out for these SCAMMERS! Most 5 stars reviews are paid fake reviews.
