This is one of my worst experience…

This is one of my worst experience dealing with picking up rent a car. I booked with Price line with a full insurance protection "rental cover.com" booked from Priceline website. At the counter I was asked to buy Nextcar insurance as they do not accept "rental cover.com" I was asked to buy an insurance for $ 66 per day ( which came to more than the total I paid for rental and insurance that too on a debit card. If I have to use credit card I need to show a bill or other means of identification. This caused a lot of inconvenience, stress and 2 hours of my time to and fro to pick up the car.

SCAM!

SCAM!

This is the worst rental agency I've ever been to in my life. Do yourself a favor and stick to the known agencies, because this place is a dump. The shuttle took us to a place that looked like scrap metal site, the office was hopelessly overcrowded (a lot of people had to wait outside in 95 degree Miami Heat until their turn) and the three employees took 30 minutes with each customer. Look at the guy in the picture at the counter, he was ready to have a meltdown after 30 minutes. As we stood in line for 2 hours, we kept wondering why everybody was mad and looked frustrated, but soon found out. When we got to the counter 1. they didn't accept Amex. 2. they tried to sell us a SunPass for the tolls, which can be avoided but they charge 15 bucks a day and lied that you NEED the pass and last but not least 3. they didn't accept my car insurance saying they only work with a selected group. So they tried to sell me their own for 60 dollars a day.

I booked through Expedia and I strongly urge everybody to stay away from them. I'm trying to get a refund, because I wasn't able to cancel, since waiting in line for 2 hours made the rental binding on me. Now they're refusing to give the refund.

Oh the sign says you need to return the car washed and they make you fill out a slip to draw all the damages the car had before they give you the keys. I took the shuttle back to MIA and got a car at the terminal. Do yourself a favor and avoid them.

The shuttle driver was really nice though!

1 star because of the shuttle driver. I couldnt give zero.

UPDATE: they refused to refund, although Expedia tried to reason with them.

I’m only giving 1 star because I can’t…

I’m only giving 1 star because I can’t give 0 stars. Truly terrible customer service, especially from the employee named Hernan. Not sure how they were able to find someone that terrible to interact with customers.

Watch out for one specific trick of theirs: rather than giving you the car with a full tank of gas, they only deliver it partially full (half full, in my case). It is then almost impossible to get the gas exactly where they delivered it, because fuel gauges on these cars are not that precise. So you can either overfill it, or return it slightly under filled (since it’s basically impossible to get to exactly the same level at which they delivered in, partially filled). If you do the latter, when you return the car they then charge you $46 for being even a hair below where they think the fuel gauge should be. If you’re in a hurry, which isn’t uncommon at an airport, you then have no choice but to pay the $46, which is what they are probably planning on happening. Easy money for them.

The whole mess could be avoided by simply filling the tank before delivering the car, but then they wouldn’t be able to nail customers for the extra $46. It’s a scam.

I never got to use NextCar for a service I paid

I never got to use NextCar even though I paid for a service through Priceline. They never picked the phone nor did they send a shuttle to pick me up as promised in the service. They never returned the money to me and they thanked me for my business. Never, ever will I use NextCar or Priceline, who stated this was not their issue to resolve.

Car Rental Scammers

Do not try to save a few dollars by renting from a shady company. You will regret it. This was NextCar, San Jose, Costa Rica.
When you arrive at their office in the middle of nowhere, they will reject the already paid-in-full reservation you had from a travel agent. They will ask you to make a new reservation with them or leave.
We ended up paying for a new reservation. Sensing their bad practice and to get peace of mind, we decided to pay for a fully insured car, using their own insurance.
A week after returning the car, we found unauthorized $2,034 on our credit card with no explanation, nor reply to our calls. This was a fully insured car!
Do not fall for those scammers.

RUN from Nextcar, Priceless, Stride, MCX they are all the same Company

Waited for pickup for an hour. After picking up took us to grungy ran down business. Walked in and all customers were on phone trying to get insurance documents off phone. Everyone was upset. Had to put down a $500 deposit that we can't get back for 15 days, pay $25/day for toll service. Signed 12 waivers. Which i had to resign because they said it didn't match my driver's licensce. Was informed I couldn't return my car because they wouldn't be open when our flight leaves. This is hard with a family of 6. Told us we could leave it a certain area for a 150 extra fee and not refund our money for having to deliver it a day early and get 2 Uber trips now. Had to inspect our own vehicle and the car only had a 1/4 tank of gas which they would not fill up and said bring it back with same amount or more. Totally ridiculous!! Please cancel your partnership with Stride, Nextcar or MCX. Every customer in that facility was passed. I am surprised someone has not been shot at their place of business!!

Van Broke Down, Never Received Reimbursement

We rented a van from Rent-a-Wreck (DriveSafe France) in May 2025. We had informed the company of warning lights on the dashboard and had been told to ignore them. After a couple of days, we broke down deep in the countryside and were stranded with two small children, four adults, and our luggage. I was reassured that we would be reimbursed for these expenses and receive a full refund, but I have spent two months trying to get reimbursement without any results. They have only offered partial reimbursement (€832 out of €1,532 in costs), even though the service was never rendered, and have never actually reimbursed me and have ignored me now for over a month. Unprofessional and unacceptable — I’ve submitted a formal complaint to French authorities (DGCCRF and SignalConso). Avoid this company if you want basic reliability or accountability.

Double charge

Paid for my car rental with Expedia in May 2025 to pick up at the Belair Road location, got a beat up car that has stains on all the seats and the driver seat floor mat even has a hole. I didn't have time to request for another car and I didn't think they have another car in their lot to give me by the look of the lot so I took the rental. I returned the car on time and paid the toll. I was told that there won't be any more charges and I will have my final receipt. In June I got charged for $19 and $34 for toll. In July 2025 I got charged again for the full car rental fee. The reason being is that the toll wasn't generated at the time of return which I understand that, but why am I being charged again for the rental fee? NextCar said the fee was refunded by Expedia to me therefore NextCar is charging me the fee. I called Expedia and I was told that I wasn't refunded but even though NextCar charged me again Expedia is not going to refund me. So now I paid Expedia online at the time of booking and be charged again by NextCar in July 2025. My bank has done told me no once because I received the service so my dispute is denied. How is it no one look at my bank statement and see no refund and look at their Corp records and see they received the money twice? I'm still waiting for my bank's answer since I called them and NextCar again today. But it seems like NextCar has lots of victims like me so stay away.

Absolute scam

Turks and caicos. Absolute scam. The SUV had 341,000 miles. It was covered in damage. Flat and bald tires. We returned the car as soon as we secured a safe vehicle less than 24hours. No response from management, no refund of the 6 unused days, no security deposit returned.

Negative one star if I could

We rented in Houston and this business is not at the airport. To get the shuttle you’re supposed to call them but you’re put in a queue with everyone else and after 45 minutes it hung up and we had to wait another 45 minutes. They were dropping someone off when we flagged them down. Took us miles from the airport. We’re now 1.5 hours in when we get there and they charge us $75 A DAY for insurance even though we have our own. They wanted $14.99 a day to add my spouse as a driver. All on top of what we’d already paid when we booked the rental. Tires were low tread, crack in windshield, and a vibration when driving the speed limit. We told them all of this when we returned the car, watched them drive the car round back, 10 minutes later, bring it back out wet and give it to the next person. Now that person is on low tread tires, and have a vibration. if I could give this negative stars I would.

Deposit not returned and scam tactics

its been almost a month, and i have not received my $250 deposit back. First, i was told i was not able to use my insurance, although i have Full Coverage. Then, was charged $800 for a "lost Key", which i eventually got refunded for thanks to picture evidence i took of leaving the key where i was told by one of their reps. Im still waiting for the deposit though. I have sent several emails, and i have received replies, probably not from this location. But keep in mind, the cheap prices you see advertised, will come at a high price during pickup and after return. Your peace of mind is at stake if you rent from Nextcar.

We got scammed

We got scammed. Do not book with them or the third party companies they use. They do not tell you what car rental company it is until after you pay therefore you have no information as to when they are open/closed etc. they take Apple Pay and according to the car rental place, they should not for security reasons. We reserved a car and they took our money not allowing us to even change it for a small error. The car rental place called it a scam and are wanting to pull their contract due to the poor customer service. Everyone we spoke to was EXTREMELY rude for absolutely no reason. So so so bad. The app I use for all of my flights, I will notify them as well to ensure they want to continue using this company. It was horrible and we are out hundreds of dollars.

Caution: Poor Customer Service and Unethical Practices

I strongly warn anyone thinking about renting from this company at Miami Airport. Our experience was incredibly stressful and disappointing, especially since we were traveling with a 4-month-old baby.

We booked and fully paid in advance through Expedia for a 7-passenger vehicle with a baby car seat. Due to a flight delay that was completely outside our control, we arrived two hours late. That shouldn’t have mattered since the car was already paid for and secured with a deposit.

But when we got there, they had given away both the car and the baby seat. No apology, no equivalent replacement. Just a smaller car that couldn’t fit our family or luggage. And we were left without a safe way to transport our baby.

We spoke to the manager, Adrian, who blamed us for being late and told us to go buy a baby seat at Walmart. After a 10-hour flight with an infant, that was their solution.

We had no choice but to take the smaller car, even though we were charged the full amount. One of our family members had to take a separate Uber over 1.5 hours to our hotel with the extra luggage. We are now submitting the Uber receipt and the baby seat cost to the company and hoping they will reimburse us. We’re not asking for anything extra, just to pay a fair price and be compensated for the extra costs they caused. Based on how we’ve been treated so far, we’re not very optimistic.

Avoid this company if you care at all about service, reliability, or basic human decency.
