Absolutely appalling! Avoid, avoid, avoid!
What should have been an exciting experience buying a new car has turned into an absolute shambles, with our time completely wasted and our trust in Motorpoint ruined forever. We were initially told about an Audi A4 at the Coventry branch and paid £199 to reserve the car and have it transported to the Burnley store. We were told by Harrison that this car was not on the website yet, explaining Coventry’s store manager had been using it as a company car for several months. We received a text confirming that the car had arrived, so naturally we contacted the branch to arrange a viewing. We were excited. Despite contacting the branch, we were met with excuse after excuse as to why we couldn’t view the car. First, we were told it was in the garage having a tyre changed. Then we were told it was in the garage for a gearbox service. Different members of staff gave us completely different information each day. Were they hiding something? On multiple occasions, we were promised that someone would call us back. Nobody did. We were left chasing the branch repeatedly for updates. It genuinely felt as though they were avoiding us coming to view the car, and looking back, this was a big red flag. We should have walked away there and then.
Eventually, we were able to view and test drive the car and arranged to collect it two days later at 6pm. On the day of collection, we were called at 17:05 and asked to come at 7pm instead due to short staff. We didn’t mind this short delay - we were so excited to get the keys to our new car! We drove 30 miles to the branch and waited around, only to be told — AFTER we had paid over £20,000 for the vehicle — that they were unable to tax it because they didn’t have the V5C. Why was this not checked before taking the money from us?! We were then promised by Courtney that the issue would “definitely” be resolved the following morning and that she would call us before 11am. Unsurprisingly, 11am came and went with no phone call. I repeatedly called the branch, only to be told Courtney wasn’t available. I eventually spoke to another member of staff who told us that if we could get to the branch before 5:30pm, someone would accompany us to the Post Office to tax the car. We were again promised this will be sorted and we’ll definitely get the car today.
My husband and I managed to take time off work in the afternoon and yet again, did the 60 mile round trip. Shaun, who was probably the only person throughout this entire experience who was seemed honest and pleasant, accompanied us to the Post Office. The tax application was declined at the post office but again we were promised this would be sorted, just after a quick phone call to the head office. We were told to sit and wait. We waited for well over an hour. Eventually, staff came over and told us that they were unable to tax the vehicle. They offered to give us a courtesy car but needed it back in a week - they had no clue when the car would be ready. We were informed that there was no V5C and that it was apparently still with the previous owner. This is particularly difficult to understand given that we had previously been told that the vehicle had been driven around by the Coventry store manager for months. If that is correct, how was the vehicle being driven without the necessary documentation and tax arrangements being in place? It all seems extremely dodgy.
At this point, we had simply had enough and requested a refund.
The entire experience has been a nightmare. We have been given contradictory information, repeatedly promised phone calls that never happened, made multiple unnecessary journeys, taken time off work and lost money, paid over £20,000 for a car we couldn’t legally drive away, and spent hours waiting around while Motorpoint attempted to resolve an issue that should have been sorted BEFORE the vehicle was sold to us.
WHY TAKE OVER £20,000 FROM A CUSTOMER WHEN YOU HAVEN’T EVEN CHECKED THAT ALL THE NECESSARY DOCUMENTATION IS IN PLACE TO TAX AND HAND OVER THE VEHICLE?
CHECK THE PAPERWORK BEFORE TAKING SOMEONE’S MONEY.
We were quick and easy to take our money, but when it came to actually providing the service we had paid for, the communication and organisation were absolutely shocking.
We will NEVER be returning. We will also be making sure our family and friends know exactly how we have been treated and will strongly advise them to think twice before buying a car from Motorpoint. You’ll be better sticking with Arnold Clark!

Whole experience from walking in the door to driving away with the car a few days later was so easy. The sales team were very professional and knowledgeable and the range of vehicles and pricing was impressive. We were particularly impressed by Courtney, who finalised our purchase and is a credit to the company.

I recently leased a car from Motorpoint, Burnley, and was assisted by Nassar Manzoor. Mr Manzoor was very friendly and helpful, and he explained all aspects of the leasing process clearly. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Motorpoint to others.

Total failure of aftercare service and no accountability to the warranty company! Read on for details...
We bought a 5 year old Ford Kuga 18 months ago, which still has only 55,000 on the clock now. We were sold an extended warranty for £700 by Motorpoint and were promised a hassle-free, fully encompassing warranty. The contract crucially states that the third-party provider arranges the repairs, but the warranty is between us amd Motorpoint.
The third-party warranty company (Spectrum) have made false accusations about a broken flywheel being part of 'wear and tear' and after 20 hours on the phone and 4 weeks of the car in the garage, we have only £1,050 of £2,300 repairs covered. We still haven't got the car fixed.
Motorpoint have put one phone call into Spectrum and that's it. There was no concern about Spectrum being proven to have lied to a customer, and no accountability. They have since emailed us and told us the onus is on us and we have been hung out to dry.
A 6 year old car with average mileage would not have 'wear and tear' of a clutch bearing already, and the resulting flywheel, clutch bearing, slave cylinder and water pump are all relevant and reasonable requests to be repaired.
Motorpoint and Spectrum are conning people with worthless warranties and you should be very wary.

Returned to Motorpoint Burnley to look for a new car as I had purchased a car from them previously some 10 years ago. We experienced a high standard of service and were not left disappointed. Harrison took care of us, he was engaging and we didn't feel any pressure from him. He was helpful and informative. Harrison took us on a test drive, he was able to answer any questions we had and his help was really appreciated. I definitely recommend Motorpoint Burnley to family and friends. Harrison made the process very easy for us. Thank you.
