Disappointing experience that prolonged my cat’s suffering
I brought my 17-year-old cat to Bixby Animal Specialty Hospital after she suddenly lost the ability to walk. My primary veterinarian at VCA Hermosa Animal Hospital referred me there for specialized care.
My experience was very disappointing. Two weeks prior, I had already spent approximately $2,000 at my regular veterinarian for diagnostic testing, including evaluation of a known heart murmur, and was actively monitoring her condition.
Despite this, the defendant performed additional diagnostic tests without clearly explaining why repeat testing was necessary, or discussing despite already having completed testing with my regular vet, the hospital repeated many of the same tests without clearly explaining why they were necessary. This significantly increased the cost without providing any new insight
I was informed only after the week-long tests that my cat would never walk again—the same conclusion that could have been reached without putting her through additional procedures. Her condition worsened, she was clearly in pain, and I ultimately had to make the difficult decision of having her euthanized
I left feeling that the focus was more on running tests than on thoughtful, efficient care. After the hospital responded to my concerns, l clearly requested reimbursement and never received any follow-up or response
Given the outcome and the lack of clear communication, I cannot recommend this hospital based on my experience.
