Beautiful Ireland Trip September 2022

Thank you Dean and Maurice for your help! We really enjoyed our trip to Ireland. Wild Atlantic Coast was very pretty and driving was an incredible experience. The Wild Atlantic Way - especially Killarney National Park, Ring of Kerry and Dingle were the best part of our trip!
All the B&B's were beautiful and staff was very friendly.
We followed the itinerary you charted out for us and were able to stop and see places as long as we wanted. It was very flexible to do this on our own.
Thanks again for accommodating all the changes and fitting my daughter's schedule too!
Driving was a bit scary at first but a lot of fun!

The worst Holliday ever

The worst Holliday ever! Avoid Emlagh Lodge!
I have booked a trip with Ireland Walk Hike Bike for Dingle Way 5 Day Self-Guided Hike.

On the day of the departure, I contacted Maggie Flaherty from Emlagh Lodge and I explained to her that I’m not sure what time I will be at her property because still have not booked bus ticket from Kerry to Dingle so It could be from 5 p.m to 9 p.m.

During the flight I have met another person that was heading to Dingle, and I was asked if I want, they can give me a lift to Dingle obviously, I said yes.

When they drop me at the Emlagh Lodge there was none there so I called Maggie to asked her where I can leave my luggage and is it any possibility for someone to give me a key if she is not at home.

I was told that she is busy at the moment and there is none who can give me a key. She told me to leave my luggage in FRONT OF HER HOUSE!!!! until she comes back.

I was beyond speechless! To offer someone to leave luggage outside of someone house in foreign country in insecure place without any attendance and care it was something that would never cross my mind.

When I was on the phone with her one of her guests heard the conversation that I had and seeing me so exhausted and tired after the trip he told me to have asked her if it is ok if he will open the door and I just leave my luggage on the hallway.

Over the phone she said to me that she doesn’t want me in the property at the moment, but she will allow me leave luggage in the hallway but after I will leave the luggage the door should be close immediately and I should not be on her property anymore. The guy open the door and I left my luggage.

I decided to call the tour operator and tell them that I’m not used to it to such a rude and unpleasant behaviour.

Before six I got a phone call from Meggie asking me where I was. I was really surprised because we have not arranged any specific time to meet. When I called her for the first time, I explained her that I do not have ticket from Kerry to Dingle and I’m not sure what time I will come back.

She starts rising her voice over the phone and telling me that I should be in her place because she got plans for the evening, she has to see her friends and make a shopping and since I’m in Dingle already I should come now!

I told her that I was waiting for her more than 3 hours and at the moment I’m in the middle of visiting and I cannot come immediately as she expected from me.

I was so disappointed with her attitude that I said to her that I will write review definitely. When I mentioned that she started screaming at me telling me I’m not your host! I do not want you in my accommodation!

I will call your tour operator because you definitely not staying in my place! Then she hangs up.

After she hangs up, I tried to call my tour operator on emergency number, but he didn’t pick up. Not seeing any other option, I went to Emlagh Lodge to pick my luggage because I was scared, she might do something with it.

When I got to Emlagh Lodge obviously none was there, I called her again and told her since you do not wat me at your place, I wanted my luggage back. She said that she doesn’t want me on her property and I’m the rudest person that she ever deals with! And she will come shortly to give me my luggage back.

Obviously, I had to wait for her before she appears in her place. When she got off from the car, she went through back door to pick up my luggage from the hallway and put outside her property then she slam the door in front of my face.

You cannot even imagine how I felt being kick out from the accommodation in the evening in the foreign country not even know that I will be able to find different place to stay overnight.

Later I got a call from the tour operator that he spoke with Meggie from Emlagh Lodge and he told me that she doesn’t want me in her house.
I said to him I know that she doesn’t want me she just kicks me out from her property without any reason.

Francis said to me that they will help me to find new accommodation, but I have to pay for these two nights from my own money. The accommodation that they found for me was in the hotel and it was 170.00 Euro per night so for two nights I would pay 340 Euro additionally. I was really disappointed I would expect from the tour operator to cover the cost in case something like that will happen because 4 nights were included in the booking not two.

So basically, on the top of £615.14 that I paid for the trip I was asked to pay from my own money for accommodation additionally 340.00 Euro
I have explained to Francis that I would prefer something within my budget I told him that I will check Booking.com, and I will try to find something different. I found twin room in hostel that I have booked.
Later I have texted him that I would expect refund since I’m not staying in the Emlagh Lodge. The refund that they provide for me was £94.14 for two nights.
I could honestly said that it was the worst Holliday that I had in my life.

Hi Ewa,

Thank you for your review

I feel it necessary to present both sides of the story you have outlined in your review. We have spoken in-depth with the owner of Emlagh Lodge, and our employees and their descriptions are quite different to yours.
Firstly, I must point out that this is the first time in 28 years of welcoming guests to Ireland that one of our guests was asked to leave an accommodation.
Below is the account that we received from the owner of Emlagh lodge.
You advised the owner that you would arrive between 5 and 9, as stated. She offered to collect you from the bus stop at 5 if you arrived at this time, but you turned down the offer. You then arrived at 3pm…..far earlier than stated. Upon arriving to the guesthouse, you were offered the chance to leave your bags in a secure location which is a building at the back of the accommodation and you responded with aggression on the phone. You then spoke to other guests who were leaving Emlagh Lodge in a hostile and aggressive manner as you put your bags inside the house.
The owner advised she would return to the house at 5, and she waited over 60 minutes for you to check you in. When you had not appeared by then she called you to ask when you would be there, as she had shopping to do for the following day’s breakfast and was greeted with more hostility and instructed that it was “her job to wait on you”.

Regarding your issue with the cost of the accommodation we offered after you were refused entry to Emlagh Lodge, We only use accommodations we have inspected and have approved for our guests, this is why we did not offer you the choice of a hostel in Dingle, we do not work with these establishments. We work with select B&B’s and hotels only. It was 6pm on a Saturday night in peak tourism season so we found you the best option we could at such short notice. The supplement of €340.00 is the price difference between a guesthouse and the hotel in Dingle on a busy Saturday night.
The refund, that we gave you against our better judgement, was less than expected due to the fact you chose to book through a 3rd party platform and not directly as you had originally enquired. We do not get the full £615.14 as you stated the tour cost you above. We refunded you the value of the overnights that we received.

In relation to the service, you received from Ireland Walk Hike Bike,
Your claim that we did not answer of 24 hr phone is incorrect and we have the call logs to prove it. We fielded 6 phone calls in the space of 2 hours from you. We offered you suggestions of things to do and places to go in Dingle while you waited. We found you an alternative accommodation after you got yourself thrown out of your original one. Your manner when speaking with us was aggressive and confrontational when all we wanted to do is help you.

The last point I would like to make is that in no part of your review do you refer to the rest of your time on holiday with us after the first day’s issues which are highlighted in detail. The reality is that you had a disagreement with the accommodation owner and for some reason this is our fault. We have had many guests stay at Emlagh Lodge over the years and we have not received a single bad review about the owner or the property. We have also spoken to other hosts who interacted with you during your stay, and “difficult” seems to be the general consensus about you as a guest.

Fantastic Itinerary, Outstanding Service

My wife and I worked exclusively with the team at IrelandWalkHikeBike to arrange a 3-week private tour of Ireland's West Coast this past May, 2022. We actually had to defer the trip twice due to Covid issues and this outfit was amazingly proactive and accommodating through all of the delays. My wife and I had just turned 70 at the outset of the trip and so we wanted to include all of the transportation as I did not want to undertake driving on the "other" side of the road. In addition to all the transfers IWHB arranged all or of our hotels, ferry tickets, and e-bike rentals and provided detailed maps and instructions for all of the hikes and bike circuits. Our trip played out seamlessly, with no glitches or problems and the hotel arrangements were terrific throughout. We visited four islands and each one was a unique adventure. The hikes in Connemara were beautiful and the biking around the Dingle peninsula, Clifden and Westport fantastic. Our drivers were super friendly and knowledgeable. Considering all of this, we thought the cost of the trip was eminently reasonable. Highly recommended!

Another great experience with this company.

Have just returned from another guided hike with this great company. I've travelled from Australia several times to do guided group walks with Ireland walk hike bike. This was the wild Atlantic way and islands. Again I was so impressed with our guide Linda, the lovely bed and breakfasts and small hotels we stayed in and the well organised transport. Last but not least there is the beautiful Irish countryside to immerse yourself in. I'll be doing another one.

It was an incredible experience full of stories and history as well as great company. Loved hearing about the wildlife and park personally. I also loved hearing about the Mussock Abbey and House. I also loved the fact that we were on the move. Learn and work off that full Irish Breakfast. You can’t go wrong. Thank you for taking the time to make this happen for me. The customer service was incredible and the guide was very knowledgeable and personally. Highly recommend this company. I will spread the word.

A group of 8 friends cycled the Beara Peninsula during the first week of Sept. 2021 which was organised, very professionally, by Walkhikebike . I was the main contact for the group and was very pleased with the level of service provided by Walkhikebike. I was dealing with Maurice and Francis who always responded to my many queries in timely fashion mostly via email. They provided us with a bespoke itinerary which suited the ability of the group and while it was a challenging cycle it was very beautiful and there were not too many cars on the route. Maurice provided me with wonderful suggestions about where to eat for both lunch and dinner. The accommodation was excellent and Sheila's was by far the best as we had a lovely home cooked dinner there. All luggage transfers went smoothly and great care was taken on the last day when our bikes were being transported from Castletownbere to Killarney so our bikes would not be scratched or damaged. Maurice also provided me with a transfer to my home town in Kerry and did not look for a fee. He also met up with us in person before we embarked on our cycle and gave us all the time we needed. I could not recommend this company highly enough and I know I represent my group when I write this. It was excellent value!

West Cork Group Walk

We are a walking group of good friends who have just wrapped up a super five day walking holiday in West Cork organized by Ireland Walk Hike Bike. Based in Glengarriff we explored the whole Beara Peninsula and surrounding area. We cannot recommend Ireland Walk Bike Hike highly enough. We have used Linda and her team for our walking adventures for over fifteen years. That speaks for itself.
They have a detailed knowledge of the walking options available in Ireland. They have unrivaled ability in tailoring itineraries calibrated against individual capabilities. We have direct experience of this over the years as we grow older and our walking trajectories reduce! Whether young or old and irrespective of your walking experience and capability this makes no difference to Ireland Walk Hike Bike. They deliver on the objective in their web site “ to slow people down, so they really get their feet into the soul of the country”. Our walking group can attest to that.
Great organization and attention to detail was an absolute given.

I recently used IrelandWalkhikebike for my trip to walk part of the Dingle Way from Tralee to Dingle. I was very happy with the support given to us through the booking process, our itinerary along with the written guide notes which ensured we didn't get lost along the way!! Everything went very smoothly our accommodation was very good and our luggage was moved each day for us to our new B&B. Maurice met us on the first morning of our walk which was nice to put a face to a name and to be reassured of a back up service should we require it. We thoroughly enjoyed our section of the walk although due to weather conditions (Storm Francis) we had to cut our trip short as it was unsafe to continue. We hope to return and do more of the Dingle way and would certainly use IrelandWalkHikeBike again.

Flawless, really!

I seldom enlist help from companies to plan my trips. I like to do the research and make my own arrangements. However, I found myself with too little time to arrange our trip to Ireland , so reached out to three recommended tour groups for help.

Ireland Walk Hike Bike responded almost immediately and quickly understood our needs and desires. Their attention never wavered and they answered my questions knowledgeably and graciously. The arrangements they made were flawless (flawless!!) and without any angst to me whatsoever. I’m still in awe. When we had to make last minute changes, they took care of them.

The staff was professional, thoughtful, caring and accurate. They provided accommodations, a rental car (with appropriate insurance), off-line mapping for the drive and hikes, excellent restaurant recommendations, historical and natural context to our travels; truly full service. And the cost was reasonable with no up charges for any rearrangements I required.

I certainly would recommend them for your trip to Ireland. In this case, we couldn’t have done our trip without them.

Absolutely Amazing

We did an 8 day self-guided Kerry hike and bike tour. It was an amazing adventure that we will remember for a lifetime! Francis and Petrina were wonderful and very helpful from start to finish. It was our first time to Ireland and I couldn't imagine experiencing it in any other way. Everything was mapped out and every detail taken care of. All we had to do was enjoy. Hope to come back soon and experience another part of the country with IWHB. Fantastic! Thank you :)

IrelandWalkHikeBike did an excellent job of arranging our itinerary, rentals and hotels.
