Welcome to House of Hobbies. We are a small business selling model railway, scale model and RC kits plus all the accessories, paints and tools you need to create your miniature worlds. We stock all of the normal UK brands and try to specialize in the European and US brands too so if you after something for your model railroad or a new addition to your fleet of kits then please do come inside and take a look. **We hit a huge growth patch late in 2023 which caused issues with our service levels and we are working hard to implement changes to prevent them happening again. Better to be honest and own the mistake than hide away** Please do look at our reviews both good and bad and remember that less than 5% of happy customers actually leave reviews but we certainly do make mistakes and naturally get flagged on here for them. I guess we are saying look at the bigger picture and remember that none of us get up of a morning actively wanting to upset our customers. Thanks and welcome to the family. Martin

I was suspicious when they had a banner saying, that due to staff issues, they were unable to take phone calls.

VERY POOR SERVICE

I ordered three packets of Pola Glue in April and paid by Credit card. Nothing has ever been sent and no refund offered. I have sent numerous e-mails asking what is happening but get no reply. I would advise anyone thinking of using House of Hobbies to think very carefully as trust is obviously not a consideration
or decency towards customers.

Avoid this business

Would have given zero stars if…

Would have given zero stars if available.
Ordered 24/4/24, nothing heard, several chase-up emails and still nothing.
Now appear to have ceased trading (I wonder why...).
I was suspicious when they had a banner saying, due to staff issues, they are unable to take phone calls.
I wish I'd trusted my instinct.
As they've "disappeared", I suggest keeping an eye out for a similar looking "phoenix company" setting up in the area.
If so avoid, avoid, avoid.

Paid but didn't get order

Like many others I ordered and paid for a model. It never came. Not answering phone calls or emails. It looks as though it's closed now. I have been able to get my money back from the bank.

House of Horrors

Like many on this site, I too have not received an order dated early May 2024, and have now written to them advising of imminent legal action unless reimbursement is forthcoming immediately. I notice today the relevant website suggests House of Hobbies is permanently closed, which doesn’t bode well for all outstanding orders.

Very Bad Coms (non at all) AVOID like the plague

Ordered a pre order kit in January 2024. Said on the site expected May 2024. Still haven’t received it gone beyond the 60 days as in there terms and conditions for a refund. Emailed now 3 times no response. Contacted my bank and now have it in dispute. Have given them 2 weeks before I contact Trading Standards. Checked the company on the companies house web site and it states that they are active but account overdue. Does this mean they have gone into liquidation?

Poor

Money taken out. Over a month past. No communications despite various attempts. No order received. Refund achieved through PayPal only.

Looking online for other customer feedback, this is the trend with this company. I note the company seems to be experiencing some sort of workforce trauma and are overwhelmed. This was not apparent when placing the order. I would strongly encourage them to cease trading rather than accept new orders and keep clocking in these negative reviews and leaving a trail of disappointment and frustration.

Very bad service

Pre order made back in in February for delivery in June - items now appearing on site as readily available to order yet my order has still not been despatched. No response to my e-mails. I always give benefit of doubt but in this case (and looking at other feedback) I would suggest avoiding at all costs. Very poor.......

Avoid this trader

I ordered an item, the money was taken but no delivery. The trader Martin McNeil is uncontactable. He does not respond to emails and when I phone I get a recorded voice telling me I cannot leave a message. Looking at reviews, many other customers are having the same experience. After placing an order online on June 9th I got an immediate confirmation saying that if the item is labelled as "In Stock" it would be dispatched within 2-3 days, and if "Available" then within 14 days. I've contacted my credit card company Nationwide with a claim under s. 75 Consumer Credit Act, which makes the credit card company jointly liable with the trader. They refunded my £37.17, even though this is below the £100 exception of s.75(3). Thank you Nationwide. I contacted Ormskirk Trading Standards who advised me to send a recorded delivery letter to Mr. McNeil, but still no response. His Company House profile shows he has been associated with 5 other model/hobby businesses which have all been liquidated or dissolved. His website still offers items for sale and presumably he is still taking money but not delivering. Maybe he has health or other problems, and I can sympathise with a small business struggling in hard times, but surely he can't be allowed to carry on like this. He should at least respond to customers and explain.

As per other reviews DONT ORDER from this company!! I ordered goods Order number: WEB23973-551
Order date: 14th April 2024 and paid £23.18 (for a model aircraft, decal fix & set, plus model gap filler) in April after having shopped with them twice before; but now it’s terrible experience.

I’ve chased regularly only to be ignored!! Still got email nudges to order more etc., But no goods delivered, no refund and radio silence. Overall now it’s diabolical service; so Avoid or regret it!!

UTTERLY DREADFUL

UTTERLY DREADFUL! Cannot pay and if I could it is only via Paypal which I do not use due to previous scamming. Tried emailing - no reply. Visited Burscough Unit, closed even though website said it was open. Very sad because I have visited them in the past and then were very friendly and knowledgible. WHAT HAS GONE WRONG

Terrible!!

Terrible!!
Money taken but no goods received. Did the courteous thing and messaged the vendor directly but never received a reply.
Shall be raising a dispute with Paypal

Very poor!

My order placed 24/6 still hasn't arrived and no notification as to when it will. Whilst I have sympathy for any business struggling to cope, I have no time for a company that continues to take orders when existing ones are not fulfilled. It's also pretty dismal that there is no way to send an email (which failed to be delivered) and no chance to leave a phone message. If I had received a message confirming a (very) late delivery and an explanation, then perhaps I'd feel differently. I have requested a card refund.

Be Honest and keep the faith of your customers.

I see from the numerous reviews and your replies that you are having big problems with staffing and your own health. My order hasn't arrived with no replies to phone calls and emails. To keep customer faith I suggest you stop taking orders and money and send a note explaining your circumstances. It always pays to be honest and keep the faith of your customers. Unfortunately I will request from PayPal and cancel the order in a weeks time. Wishing you a speedy recovery.
