Not impressed with the contacts i corresponeded with

my first renewal quote was higher than if their comparison site quote. When I queried I was given various reasons for the higher cost, when in their statement a new customer they guarantee same cost for an exiting customer. i knew that I had done a like for like quote. i was going to change but found the new insurer pretty poor. Later I received another renewal quote that was lower than my comparison site quote. So I remained. But my experience with the people I contacted I could not give a high rating

Inflated quote for "new" customer; bad customer service

I had had home contents insurance with Homeprotect for a number of years and was very happy with it.

Unfortunately when it came for renewal this year they were unable to take payment because my card details had changed. They let me know, and I called to make payment. Whilst on the phone the person I spoke to asked if I was happy with the policy and I said I'd better just double check it. It was good of her to have done that, and she promise she would call back next day so I could make payment.

She never called me back. Of course it's my own responsibility to make sure I have insurance but she should not have said she'd call back if then wasn't able to for whatever reason.

I then got a letter saying my policy had lapsed. Again - my responsibility alone, but one more reminder before such time may be a useful thing for Homeprotect to implement going forward.

I phoned to make payment and was told that because my policy had lapsed 30 days ago (this was on day 31) I'd need to get a new quote. Unfortunately the new quote was more than twice the renewal quote (around £580 rather than £270-ish). The person I spoke to was unable to explain why that was, given that nothing had changed in terms of my insurance needs. Seems that new customers, which I guess I was at that point (despite the company person on the phone having all my info already on file) are charged highly inflated amounts.

In the circumstances I asked if this could be escalated and to see if there was a way an exception could be made. I was promised a call which was meant to happen yesterday - I've heard nothing.

Id already decided I didn't have time to wait for the Monday call that never happened, and have gone ahead with a different, better known and actually cheaper provider. I'll not use Homeprotect again

Don’t use this company they quoted me 70 a month I’ve had a quote for 24 pound 😂 worse thing is I’ve been with these con men 9 years not no more

Ridiculous claims for renewal

Ridiculous.. sent me a renewal email claiming they would match or beat my previous quote.. it was nearly 40% higher and less cover as I sold an item! Told me everything had gone up, cost of business etc. Which I get but don't tell people the opposite in the email. I can see however I am in the minority.

Quote was very competitive and the underwriting by AXA gave us confidence. However, the quote was higher at the end of the process for no discernible reason, hence the four stars rather than five.
