Quick and swift transaction. The lady at the counter was extremely professional and helpful.

Money grubbers.
Money grubbers.
I refueled full tank in France next to the Swiss border and in the airport it was like 95% percent full. No other rental company has ever paid attention to such insignificant difference, yet Hertz charged me 25 EUR for that and instead of deducting that from the credit card, they sent me an invoice that I had to pay with international wire transfer, loosing another 20 EUR on fees. Unbelievable!
Hertz in Zurich airport
Rented a car at Zurich airport last week with Hertz. It was the smoothest car rental experience we've ever had. Efficient, friendly, helpful and no queues! The return was also smooth and very quick. Would highly recommend Hertz in Zurich airport.
Scandalous Practices
Scandalous Practices.
I filled the tank 5 km away from the airport and the guy said the tank is not full. so he charged me 69.30 CHF. gave nothing in writing. He said i should have filled the tank at the airport! why didn't they say that when i got the car?
really bad. never again. Read the other reviews - there is something wrong here.
AUTO CHECKIN DOES NOT WORK
They sent us an email to check in but their website does not work and the English is poor... you do not say 'check out' but 'check in' - then when loading the photo passport, the 'continue' button disappears so no way to progress... we are not forced to go at the counter upon arrival to check in... their website was done by someone who does not know what they are doing.
Avoid this company like the plague
Worst rental company ever...I wish I had read the reviews here prior to making a reservation with this lousy company. We returned our rental before opening hours since we ad an early flight from Zurich. First of all they charged me 550 Euros for an alleged damage (looks from the pictures they sent like a smudge on one of the panels, taking into consideration that we never scrapped the car during our rental) then they charged us another 40 Euros for gas although we filled up the car less than 3 KMs from the airport. Lastly they want to collect 63 euros in administrative fees for a ticket that allegedly we got. All they did was send us an email to let us know that we will be receiving an email from the authorities regarding that ticket. I will never rent from Hertz again.
Overcharged for Minimal Rim Scratches — Disappointed with Hertz
I was charged CHF 760.00 for two very minimal scratches on the rims of the wheels, plus an additional CHF 90.00 damage administration fee. One scratch was barely noticeable, and the other was essentially invisible. To make matters worse, Hertz took photos and digitally enhanced the scratches in white to make them look worse than they actually were.
This feels like a total rip-off. I understand minor damages need to be addressed, but this level of overcharging for barely visible wear and tear is unacceptable.
This experience has left me with no desire to rent from Hertz again.
Truly awful
Truly awful. Tried scamming me for damage to the vehicle which was already there (thankfully I had taken photographs).
Stay WELL AWAY. UTTER SCAMMERS.
Never book with this company it is a…
Never book with this company it is a scam. We booked a car for 2 weeks online but as we arrived to get the car we were told that we would on top of that to take a mandatory insurance. This was never mentioned during the booking process and the price for the insurance was about 5 times the prices we had to paid for the car. This is pure robbery!
No customer service at all
No customer service at all, no way to contact the company if you have a question or an issue. There are so many other car rentals, don't use Hertz
Daylight robbery
Daylight robbery, charged penalties higher than actual fines. Even though i have paid 1 of the fine to the authority directly, they still claimed it as "admin fees" and not refundable based on "policy". The fine was 20euro (paid to local authority) but charged 64CHF by hertz (not refunding)
Absolute SCAM
Absolute SCAM! When we returned the car, they told me everything was fine and no need to review. Then they charged me 500 franks for a supposed tiny scratch that I know for a fact did not happen while I had the car. Total SCAM! I have been renting cars for many years and this was the biggest scam of a treatment I have ever had. Stay away!
Bunch of lying thieves at HERTZ, NEVER rent from them as they are fraudulent
I wished I had consulted Trustpilot before as Hertz Switzerland gets very low scores. They are a bunch of fraudulent, lying thieves. I read over and over the story that they identify scratches after having said that you can leave the car and it looks OK, and then charge you 1700 CHF for a scratch!!!!
I had to point out 2 large scratches/damages that weren't documented. When I returned the car, the guy took a look at it and said it was fine and I handed in the car. 2 hours later I got a report saying that the car had a scratch on the front bumper (according to the diagram) and they send a picture of the rear bumper as proof. The bumper showed mud but no scratches and therefore I contested the damage. Hertz is not willing to even accept my complaint or respond to me, despite it being 2 very obvious errors on their side.
NEVER EVER EVER RENT FROM HERTZ is my recommendation - they are lying, they are fraudulent, and because they have your credit card details, they just charge it. What a bunch of thieves
A genuine scam
A genuine scam as documented multiple times below in which pre-existing scratches on the wheels are charged excessively back to the customer over and over again.
Do not use Hertz
Do not use Hertz
Do not use Hertz. They forced me to sign for max insurance - 300 for only four days - saying my car was uninsured. This wasn’t true it turns out. After dropping off the car they said all fine but they charged me an additional £91 for no apparent reason and no email.
Scammed
Scammed, like everyone else it seems, for (extremely minor) scratch to the car that I have video proof I did not cause!! Now refusing to return my emails and unable to reach them on telephone. DO NOT USE!!!
I advise you not to use this company under any circumstances
My experiences completely match those of the reviews above.
I rented a car for a few days in January 2025 from Geneva airport. On return I was charged 500 swiss francs for what was an extremely small scratch on the wheel. It was barely visible and the person inspecting the car used a torch to inspect the car in detail.
I think that 500 swiss francs is hugely excessive for what was an almost invisible scratch. Additionally I was put under pressure to sign a form and pay. The person said that there were new scratches on two wheels but said that he would charge for one if I signed the form there and then. I needed to get a flight and as I said above felt very pressured to pay for something which I did not feel is reasonable.
My advice is to avoid this company under any circumstances.
Terrible Experience with Hertz in Geneva, Switzerland – Avoid!
I had a truly disappointing experience with Hertz during my recent car rental in Geneva. After returning the car, I was shocked to receive a bill for 2000 CHF (approximately $2000 USD) for what can only be described as minor cosmetic damage: a tiny scratch on the alloy wheel (smaller than half a penny) and a small scuff on the bottom of the front bumper (the size of a tenpence coin).
What makes this even more frustrating is that these scratches were so insignificant that Hertz likely won’t even repair them. Yet, they still charged me an astronomical fee. This feels like a blatant cash grab, taking advantage of customers for everyday wear and tear that should be considered normal for a rental car.
When I raised this issue with Hertz customer service, I was met with dismissive responses reiterating their hire terms and conditions, with no real attempt to address my concerns. It’s clear that Hertz prioritizes profit over fairness and transparency.
I strongly advise anyone considering renting a car in Geneva—or anywhere else—to be extremely cautious when dealing with Hertz. If you do choose to rent from them, document every tiny detail of the vehicle before you leave the lot, and consider alternative companies with better reputations for fairness and customer care.
Never again with Hertz.
Absolutely awful, do not use Hertz!!
Absolutely awful company, do not use Hertz hire cars! We hired a car for 1.5days and got charged 650 Swiss Francs for damage we did not do!!!! Awful customer service, they simply do not care about their customers. Money grabbing, dishonest, truly awful to deal with, will never use again!!
Outrageous damage claims aiming to get money from people that do not choose to go with their expensive full protection insurance
An interesting little bedtime story before you book with Hertz:
I booked hire cars with them a few times before and always booked it with the company's (very expensive!) full protection insurance. There was never an issue, all good – if you go with that solution, it's likely that all will be fine.
This time, I booked a much cheaper full protection insurance with another company and guess what happened: Hertz claims damages worth more than CHF 2,300.00 (little scratches)!!! Two of the four damage "issues" they claim were already there when we picked the car up but this is what the Hertz personnel said: "Don't worry about them, you have full protection insurance anyway."
While the insurance company will pay for these damages, it is an untruthful practice of Hertz aiming to claim additional money from people that decide not to go with their expensive insurance partner.
Be aware of it when choosing Hertz.
