Quick and swift transaction. The lady at the counter was extremely professional and helpful.

Complete Scam
I am a gold member and have hired numerous cars over 25 years from Hertz in the US with never a problem. (Probably over 100)
This is the first time I have hired a car in Geneva and will certainly be the last. Firstly there was no point to be a gold member as I still had to line up and get the keys but that was nothing compared to the scam on my return.
I drove it to a ski resort and straight into a garage where the nose was pointed to the wall. Then 4 days later I drove it back to Geneva and I 100% did not have any incidents.
The guy then found a slight scuff on the front and showed me pictures of the car as it allegedly was beforehand but couldn't show me a date that this picture was taken and the picture on my contract was fuzzy and not the same resolution!
I have now been charged £710
This happened also with Goby cars in Majorca last July but I mistakenly thought Hertz was more reputable and worth the extra hire cost. How wrong I was! Do not use them...
Avoid - slow and very poor service.
Shocking….they have bookings and know how many people want cars. Took almost as long as the flight to get the car. If you have kids or some sanity avoid. Sixt were significantly quicker. Europcar dealt with their queue in half the time - avoid hertz!!
actually no star at all.
actually no star at all.. Here’s a short, sharp, and professionally worded review:
⸻
Very disappointing experience. The service lacked flexibility, and there was little effort to accommodate reasonable requests. Customer support felt rigid and indifferent rather than solution-oriented. Unfortunately, the overall approach did not reflect a customer-friendly environment. I cannot recommend this service based on my experience.

I booked a car for five days from the Hertz Zurich Airport desk via CarRentals.
When collecting the car, they charged me CHF 65 above the quote confirmed by CarRentals, with no explanations whatsoever. When I protested, they argued it was CarRentals problem, and threatened to cancel my rental.
Although I had all documents to prove my case, they would not budge. I call this being ripped off.
AVOID - They are enough competitors around!
Do not use Hertz
Do not use Hertz, I ordered an SUV to drive from Netherlands to Switzerland. They charged me 1000 euros for the drop off fee which seemed standard across all rental companies as it was a different country. I get the car and its smaller and was actually a Swiss license plate. So I paid 1000 euros to return a car for them. I contact their support to get money back as why should i pay 1000 euros to drive a car back for them. Their customer service team seem to have learning difficulties as they just said the car was within the class I booked. Do not use Hertz scam of a company and brain dead customer service people.
Very poor service – misleading and inflexible
I booked a car online with Hertz Switzerland for 2 days. I collected the car 40 minutes early at the airport, and the agent never mentioned that collecting slightly early would have any impact on the rental cost.
I then returned the car 2 hours before the scheduled return time, assuming common sense would apply. Instead, Hertz completely ignored the early return and focused only on the fact that I collected the car before the original time — resulting in an extra full day’s rental being charged.
This feels deceptive and unfair. The agent failed to communicate clearly at pickup, and Hertz later refused to apply any logic or flexibility when I challenged the charge. Customer service simply hid behind rigid policy rather than acknowledging their own poor communication.
Very disappointing experience, poor service, and zero customer care. I feel misled and overcharged.
I will never use Hertz again, and I strongly advise others to be cautious — especially in Switzerland.
Hertz Zurich and probably all locations…
Hertz Zurich and probably all locations in Swiss are a fruad, scam people for damages.
Avoid at all costs!
I got charged $400 for damages that didn’t happen. Stay well away from them!
Scam Be Extremely Careful HERTZ ZÜRICH
Scam Be Extremely Careful HERTZ ZÜRICH
This company is a complete scam. I returned the car in good condition, and 14 days later they suddenly claimed there was damage and charged me nearly CHF 750. This is nothing but a dishonest cash grab.
The service was absolutely disgraceful. The receptionist at pickup was rude, arrogant, and unprofessional. Customer service overall was beyond terrible and clearly does not care about customers at all.
I took a video of the car at pickup and drop-off. Despite the car being returned without damage, they still invented claims to justify charging me. The timing alone proves how dodgy this is if there was real damage, why wait two weeks to say something?
If you rent here, expect them to make up damage claims after you leave and charge your card. Unless you film every single angle in extreme detail, they will try to take your money.
I strongly advise everyone to stay far away from this company. One of the worst rental experiences I’ve ever had.
DO NOT RENT FROM THIS LOCATION* BOGUS DAMAGE CHARGES WILL RESULT!
We experienced the same "scam" that others have related in these reviews!
Bogus preexisting minor body scratches and alloy wheel rim scuffs that we're not on the vehicle condition contract when departing
However upon after hours drop off numerous "chargeable damage " scuffs less than 10 mm were annotated and charged $1680 US dollars to repair!
Ridiculous cost and fabrication
Rental was 8:29/25-9/1/25 only drove 128 miles total & never parked on a city street !
Sent my video airport departure evidence and was disregarded.
BTW we did take the CDW/LDW hertz insurance but they said it did not cover those scratches or scuffs
Do NOT rent from Hertz in Zurich and do…
Do NOT rent from Hertz in Zurich and do NOT return a rental car to Hertz at the Zurich airport. You will be sorry.
When we returned a vehicle to Hertz at the Zurich airport they claimed there were new tiny chips in the windshield that they wanted to charge us $390 Euros to repair.
However, the tiny chips existed in the windshield when we rented the vehicle (though they were so tiny we did not notice them throughout our trip).
In response to their email claiming damage to the windshield, on December 15 we sent Hertz an email asking for information related to a number of questions such as if there was a formal or informal number of claims the airport needed to find, the number of claims made against people who lived outside of Switzerland vs were natives, and much more. Within 24 hours Hertz got back to us, never responded to any of the questions we asked, and instead just "apologized for the misunderstanding" and withdrew the $390 Euro charge.
Hertz's refusal to respond to any of our requests for information, and their immediate withdrawal of the supposed damage claim, raises serious questions about if the answers to any of the questions indicate fraud by Hertz Zurich airport.
Do NOT rent from Hertz in Zurich and do NOT return a rental car to Hertz at the Zurich airport. You will be sorry.
WARNING!
WARNING: DO NOT RETURN AFTER HOURS. They charged me $690 for a scratch I didn't cause. Like other reviews, I returned the car after hours. Took a video of the entire vehicle. Returned it in the exact condition I received it. The next morning, I was sent a letter and charged $690 for a new scratch on the door that wasnt there the night before. I sent them pictures and video of the van as it was when I returned it, but to no avail. They insisted on charging me.
Upon looking at other similar reviews on this site where this same thing happened to others, one can conclude that one of two things is happening: Either, 1. This is a scam against tourists who dont purchase the extra insurance offered by Hertz. Or 2. The sketchy back lot they have you drop the cars off after hours is being routinely vandalized and they refuse to address the problem. Either way, they should do better for their customers. They have a problem they refuse to fix. If you have to rent a car from them, DO NOT RETURN AFTER HOURS.
My experience matches that of dozens of…
My experience matches that of dozens of other reviewers. I was fraudulently charged a very large fee for a questionable, almost imperceptible scratch on an alloy rim. The total bill for a scratch that is almost invisible and less than the width of my fingernail came to over US$1000. I would recommend avoiding Hertz at all costs.
WARNING : Please read this before booking
I truly wish I had paid more attention to the reviews before renting from this company. I recently hired a Mid range SUV car at the airport . The car itself was perfectly fine no issues at all during the rental. But the nightmare began the moment I returned it.
As soon as I pulled in Airport, the staff member inspecting the vehicle suddenly “discovered” a tiny 2 cm scratch, barely visible even when you looked for it. He immediately asked if I had any photos proving it was already there before the rental. I’ve rented cars for over 20 years across multiple countries, and I’ve never had to obsess over microscopic marks like this, so of course I didn’t have a photo of such an insignificant scratch.
Once he confirmed I had no evidence, he casually said a “report” would be filed. I honestly thought it would be something minor something you could fix with a £5 scratch-repair pen.
But before I even landed back in the UK, they had already charged £560 to my card .
When I emailed to question how on earth they came up with that figure, they hid behind vague claims that their “costs are audited yearly by a third party and it is industry standard!!!.” Yet they refused to provide a single document from an actual mechanic. Nothing.
It feels like extortion, plain and simple and judging by the countless complaints all over this site, it seems they get away with this regularly.
Avoid them. I wish I had.
Hertz Zurich is ripping off renters with false claims
Hertz Zurich is definitely running a scam to steal from their customers. I strongly suggest that you NEVER rent from Hertz out of Zurich. I rented a car with significant sideswipe damage to the rear left side of the car. They even sent me a file detailing this damage, with pictures, from 2 months before my rental. Yet even with this evidence, they claimed a tiny scratch on the left rear wheel was new and tried to charge me for it. As if the left rear wheel isn't going to get scraped if the whole rear left side gets scraped. And, of course, they didn't include any detailed pictures of that wheel in their report. Other reviewers have said the same thing: they're running a scam to bilk customers out of money if the customers use the contactless return process. Renters beware!
Avoid. Massive local charges more than double the online price
Avoid. Price offered is never price paid. So called "local fees" which includes you buying their fuel rather refuelling yourself easily more than doubles whatever you have been quoted
⚠️ Do not hire from this company.
⚠️ Do not hire from this company.
They are absolutely money-grabbing. When I dropped off the car at Geneva Airport, their staff inspected it and told me everything was fine — all thumbs up. Yet, an hour later, I received an email claiming that two rims were scratched and charging me a hefty £800.
A couple of months later, they charged my card another £179 as an “administration fee” just for passing my details to the police for a ticket. £179 simply to send my details — unbelievable.
This company thrives on hidden fees and unfair charges. You’d be extremely naive to trust or use them. Avoid at all costs.

What can Hertz now do ? To Make me happy ?? After this really really Bad experiance.
Supportive and Thoughtful Rental Car Team
Car rental can be painful but Hertz helped me every step of the way. They made sure that the available cars within my booking class suited my needs. They were thoughtful and attentive with the child seat and accessories I ordered, and the communications were streamlined and efficient. I look forward to booking directly with Hertz Switzerland again.
Rented a car in Zurich airport
Hertz scam in Zurich airpot.
Rented a car in Zurich aiport. Damaged left front rim on trip.
After contact-less drop off I recieve a claim for another three damages to the car. These were there before - documented by my own pre-rental pictures or invisible in Hertz post rental pictures. I feel I have been victim of a scam to exploit customers who decline Hertz insurance. Contact-less drop off turns out to be a way to make up damage to the car, without customers interference.
Con artists...
500£ Fee for a tiny cosmetic scratch to the wheel rim, literally 20mm light paint damage to the edge of the alloy wheel!
Rip off merchants.... avoid
