Our advice is fully fee-free. We manage the entire mortgage process from initial application through to completion, and continue to look after our clients beyond move-in, including future remortgages and protection reviews.
Heron Financial was founded in September 2011 by Matt Coulson. The aim was to build a digital-first mortgage broker that puts education at the heart of every client conversation. We help individuals and families make confident, well-informed decisions about their borrowing, their long-term financial wellbeing, and their environmental impact as a B Corp-certified business.
We specialise in complex cases. Our advisers regularly place mortgages for clients who have been declined by their bank or by other brokers, including self-employed applicants with one year of accounts, contractors paid on a day rate, company directors taking minimal salary plus dividends, and borrowers with variable or commission-based income. We have access to lenders across the high street, specialist, and private bank markets.
In 2026, Heron Financial was named a finalist in two categories at the British Bank Awards: Best Mortgage Broker and Best Ethical Financial Provider. Internally, we built Everglades, our own award-winning digital application system, to make the mortgage process faster and more transparent for clients. It is one of the reasons our clients tell us the process feels noticeably less stressful than going direct to a bank.

Excellent service from Joshua and Robyn. A few hurdles to jump with obtaining the mortgage offer as we needed to change lender, but both Joshua and Robyn did everything possible to secure the offer and kept us updated throughout the process. Receiving the offer just before Christmas which was great!
