Booked In, Completely Ignored

Extremely poor experience with Halfords in Wellingborough.

I booked a pre-service assessment for 14:00 and was told my bike would be ready by 16:00, with a phone call once completed. No call was ever made.

I returned to the store at 17:50 and was left waiting until around 18:30 without any update or acknowledgment. Only after this did a member of staff inform me there had been a “mix-up” and that my bike had not been assessed at all due to lack of time.

What is most concerning is that the staff member who initially checked in my bike was present throughout and failed to provide any update. A simple, timely explanation would have avoided wasting hours of my day.

Your website states that this assessment takes approximately 30 minutes. Instead, I received no communication, no progress, and no consideration for my time.

This reflects very poorly on your customer service standards. At a minimum, customers should expect clear communication and basic courtesy when plans change.

I would appreciate an explanation of how this happened and what steps are being taken to prevent similar situations in the future.

Won’t return

I took my car in for an MOT on the agreed date and time-booked by calling the local branch. The ‘receptionist’ told me it wasn’t booked in. I told her when I phoned and at what time and was told he’d not booked it in-no apology. They would try and get it done that day. I asked for a call when I could pick up my car which they said they would do. I phoned around 5 hours later to find out what was happening to be told it’s done.
Attended to pick up my car and was told the cost-‘receptionist’ sitting at her desk nodded at the cash machine on the counter while continuing a conversation with mechanics.
Customer service is dreadful. After having been a faithful customer for many years I won’t be returning to Halfords.

Multiple Let Downs

Booked an MoT on 9th Mar for the 30th. Few days before with no explanation or contact rcvd a txt to say it had been moved to the following day! So I had to re-arrange my plans to accommodate. Three days before that, had an actual phone call to say if i could come in at a different time - I agreed, more re-arranging. Then; drum roll - rcvd a txt to say it had been cancelled, again, no reason! I then phoned the garage for an explanation - sorry we don't have an MoT tester. WTF. Phone CS this time to ask for a refund - 'yes sir, it'll be in your account by the end of the day.' Two days later as I write this it still is'nt there. Just what can you say, apart from stupid me who after a ***y experience a few years ago I used (tried) them again..

Halford Chiswick

We went to Halford in Chiswick on Sunday to buy a bike. The shop is filthy, unwelcoming, and unprofessionnal. It seems they just did not bother.
How can this sort of place sill survive?

Poor service

Ordered from the website, product didn't arrive. Courier is saying they have lost the package, no support from Halfords customer service other than a specialist team will get back to me with 7 working days. Not what you need when ordering important parts for your vehicle. Asked for the part to be sent out whilst they resolve the missing part with the courier but have been told this can't happen. Now left for at least 2 weeks for a part that should have been with me withing 3 working days. Very poor service.

Don’t, just don’t

Took my bike in for 15 point FREE check. Needed a bit of work £40-£50. Got a call to say it was now £180 including a hole in the tyre. Went in and said the hole wasn’t there when I brought it in otherwise it would have been flagged on check. Got completely ignored and charged for work that I had requested. Absolute joke

Terrible Service – No Delivery, No Help, No Cancellation

I’m extremely disappointed with my experience ordering a bike for my child from Halfords. At the time of purchase, delivery was promised within 1–2 working days, but it has now been nearly two weeks and the item still hasn’t even been dispatched.

To make matters worse, I tried to cancel the order due to the delay, but they have refused to process the cancellation, leaving me stuck waiting with no clear resolution.

Customer service has been incredibly frustrating throughout. Responses are either very slow or non-existent, and when I do get a reply, it feels like they don’t properly understand the issue or simply refuse to help. The tone has also come across as rude and dismissive rather than helpful.

Overall, this has been a very poor experience—misleading delivery times, refusal to cancel an undelivered order, and unhelpful customer service. I would not recommend ordering from them if you expect reliable delivery or decent support.

Awful online experience

Awful online experience. Offshore customer service in South Africa. They won’t let you speak directly to the stores. You’re left with having to drive around the country hoping that the specialist advice you’re given is correct AND that the item you want is also in stock.

In store, they are awesome. Really helpful and friendly.

Halfords complaints process is a waste of time ?

What a complete waste of time complaining to Halfords ! You dont seem able to provide zero starts so have had to settle for the lowest mark.
Having not had an issue with them previously, I received disgusting service recently so followed their complaints process.
Well, I shouldn't have bothered!
Waited several days to receive a defensive flack filled reply basically missing the point of the complaint so issued a further complaint today only to receive a, much quicker, response from the same person stating the same as before in defence of her initial feedback. How Elizabeth can respond to a complaint about the way Elizabeth responded initially I have no idea! That is not a complaints process if Elizabeth is the complaints department!!
I think an email to the CEO might be the next step as it wasn't even financial recompense that I was after, she seems transfixed by refunds, it was a serous safety complaint about their brake checking thst could have resulted in a serious outcome if the brakes were as bad as the MOT done just a short while later showed.
Why did I bother? Because I am really annoyed that my wife, as the main driver if this car, could have been seriously injured due to the lack of professionalism by their staff.
All I wanted was for them to own that they failed on this occasion but all Elizabeth can do is defend the indefensible!!

AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS

AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS.
What happened to my wife at Halfords Hawley (Warrington) is nothing short of disgraceful.

After returning from a 3‑week holiday, she realised the MOT had expired by a few days. She immediately booked the earliest available MOT slot — 10am at this branch. She arrived on time, handed the keys over, and the receptionist accepted the car without issue. He suggested she went for a walk around the retail park, and would call her when the MOT was complete.

She was called after approx one hour and told her they couldn’t MOT the car. Why? Because the engine was “too dirty.” and it required a SERVICE before a MOT could take place.. Under pressure she agreed to the service.

Yes, you read that right — apparently a bit of dust and normal engine grime now magically prevents an MOT.

He then tried to scare her with nonsense about “oil around the engine,” “soot,” and even told her she needed to “drive at high revs to clear the DPF.” even though the DPF filter was not blocked. The advice was ridiculous.

This is classic upselling and intimidation, preying on someone who walked in alone. Absolutely shameful behaviour.
Fortunately I called to see what was happening as she was away for a few hours and told her to cancel the service and we will book it in some where else
THIS VEHICLE WAS BOOK IN AT 10AM FOR A MOT !!
Booked the car in the following morning at a real garage , and guess what ?
MOT PASSED. ZERO advisories. I did tell the mechanic at the MOT station, his reply was, not surprised....
One‑owner, low‑mileage Mercedes. Nothing wrong with it whatsoever.

So what exactly was Halfords trying to pull?
Because it certainly wasn’t an honest MOT.

This branch is either completely incompetent or deliberately taking advantage of customers — especially women who come in alone. Either way, it’s unacceptable.

KEEP AWAY.
There are real garages out there that won’t treat you like a walking wallet !!

Brought a new agm uncharged battery

Brought a new agm battery. Installed it myself. It was nearly completely uncharged. Took 10 hours on a quility charge to bring it back. No problem after that. Why do they charge £50 for installing a battery. Took me 10 minutes, if you are unsure enty of vidios on You Tube.

James was very quick at his work and helpful. would recommend this branch

What a pointless waste of time

What a pointless waste of time, nobody answers the phones, the website doesn't work and the companies attitude to customers is abysmal. How are they still trading. I expect I might get a response from them saying please try phoning us or go online and tell us what the problem is about it, but life is way too short for that.

Bought a expensive bike for my son's…

Bought a expensive bike for my son's birthday, paid to have it built and the gears do not work correctly! Now I am left with a bike that does not work as I am unable to get it back to the store without extra hassle and costs incurred to me - they will not come to collect it or send someone round - it is not my fault or error it is theirs. More time wasted on phones / emails so will contact ombudsman as it is brand new & not working!!!
