Review summary

Based on reviews, created with AI

Reviewers had a great experience with this company. Customers praise the platform as an ideal and easy way to learn piano, especially for adults and beginners, appreciating the clear, helpful lessons and the ability to learn at their own pace. Many highlight features like separate hand practice, wait mode, and video above sheet music as particularly useful. The extensive and varied song library, along with the clean, instructive interface, contributes to a fun and inspiring learning experience for many. However, some people were dissatisfied with the app's recognition of notes, occasionally freezing or not registering correct keys. There were also mentions of the song library feeling stale, with a desire for more popular, recent, or specific genres of music, and some songs disappearing. A few customers found the subscription price to be expensive, questioning its value and expressing concerns about limited functionality or issues with family sharing and accessing subscribed content.

Flowkey has allowed me to play piano pieces beyond my wildest dreams.

Flowkey has allowed me to play piano pieces that I really enjoy playing - pieces far more difficult and rewarding than what I would otherwise be able to play if I was trying to read the music notes. I love that I can learn the left hand and the right hand separately on a piece, and watch/listen to the music being played at full speed, or 75% or 50% speed, so that I can really hear it and break it down. I most often used the “wait” mode, so that I can take as long as I need to configure my hands into the more complex chord patterns, before moving on. Having the piece stop until I play it properly gives me real time feed back on how the piece should be played, so that I don’t imprint on playing it wrong. I am in love with this program and because of it, I practice about 2 hours a day, simply because it is so enjoyable. I just wish you had more music available to learn. I fear over time I will outgrow the pieces available that I enjoy, before I am able to read the same level of piano sheet music. I am dyslexic and have a hard time reading music, but have been having no trouble learning by watching the hands play the keys. Thank you for this. Thank you for opening my world to making music I really ejoy.

Learning piano from scratch by myself

Learning piano from scratch by myself, I have been using Flowkey for 3 months now. I'm happy with the progression and tracking this tool provides, and just getting started picking from the many songs to learn and practice with. Wait mode practice is invaluable.

Really like the follow and play along functionality. Love that there are different levels and a great variety of songs.

However, wish there was full songs at easier levels. And wish that you could print the score!

Thanks for sharing your feedback! Great to hear you enjoy our different practice modes as well as the variety and different levels.

I also appreciate your thoughts about full songs at easier levels. For a more paper like playing experience, the full sheet view can be a helpful option. :)

Don't expect new very often...

The majority of the training and tutorials are the same as they were a few years ago. Rarely add new songs that are not Classical. I think the software is good, but other solutions offer a much better selection of lessons and songs. IF you like classical, this is for you. If you like other music, good luck! With the rare additions, I no longer find it useful. The format is great. But don't expect to learn how to play the piano, techniques, or anything. You can learn notes and songs. I double checked, and it doesn't look like any new courses have been added since I signed up a few years ago.

Thank you for taking the time to share such detailed feedback. I appreciate you highlighting what works well for you, especially the format.

In 2025, we've added several new courses as well as a new practice format, with a stronger focus on structured learning and technique. Alongside classical music, we continue to expand the content step by step to offer more variety.

Thank you again for sharing your perspective. It’s very helpful to understand what matters most to you.

One issue I am having is that when I play the correct key the program doesnt recognize that I am playing the correct key ( the same key that is being displayed)
I have to hit the key 2-3 times before it recognizes the correct key and move on the next key. The first time I used flow key I did not have this problem. I an using a piano keyboard (electric) that is 2 yrs old

Thanks for taking the time to describe your struggle so clearly. I understand how confusing it can be when the correct key isn’t recognized right away, especially if this worked well for you in the past.

If you’re currently using microphone input, I strongly recommend trying a MIDI connection with your electric keyboard. MIDI input is much more direct and reliable, and it usually resolves exactly this kind of delayed or missed note recognition.

If you’d like, our support team can also help you check your setup step by step and make sure everything is configured optimally.

Love Flowkey

Love flowkey
From the on line courses to the large variety of music available
The only thing which would increase Flowkey’s A rating to an A plus would be the ability to print the selections even at an additional charge
Other than that love the program

Flowkey is the best product on the market to learn piano. They have songs in their library for any type of musical taste. Also their support team is top notch. Real people answer your questions and help you vs the chatbots that some companies use.

The app is great

The app is great - best I’ve found - with the combination of sheet music split screened with the fingering along with the different levels of complexity available to choose. I just wish the library was bigger.

Money. Money. Money

It feels like a desperate attempt to get more money. If you dont pay for premium theres no way to filter out the songs that are locked. So the entirety of what you see is locked songs that you cant play, since most of their catalog is locked behind the premium pay wall

Thank you for sharing your perspective. I understand how this can feel confusing at first.

The Classic plan gives access to all courses and all pieces in the Classical music category. The Premium plan offers the same features, but unlocks additional pieces from other genres. That’s why some songs remain visible but locked when they’re outside the Classical selection.

Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts.

So far my experience is good I have not had a lot of time to use the app just yet although I do like how you can learn sections of each song and if you can’t read music it actually tells you what notes you’re playing but again I need more time to explore so far everything is great.

A very useful tool in learning the piano . It seems fairly steady for the first 5 weeks but then seems to take a rather large step particularly in Week 7 , where you are using two hands independently. I have taken a step back to concentrate on my actual one on one teacher lessons which are at a slower pace and give a lot of exercises concerned more with technique and finger strength. A good basis is everything . Then I shall resume the flowkey course
