Review summary

Based on reviews, created with AI

Reviewers had a great experience with this company. Customers praise the platform as an ideal and easy way to learn piano, especially for adults and beginners, appreciating the clear, helpful lessons and the ability to learn at their own pace. Many highlight features like separate hand practice, wait mode, and video above sheet music as particularly useful. The extensive and varied song library, along with the clean, instructive interface, contributes to a fun and inspiring learning experience for many. However, some people were dissatisfied with the app's recognition of notes, occasionally freezing or not registering correct keys. There were also mentions of the song library feeling stale, with a desire for more popular, recent, or specific genres of music, and some songs disappearing. A few customers found the subscription price to be expensive, questioning its value and expressing concerns about limited functionality or issues with family sharing and accessing subscribed content.

Payed for something I didn’t even use.

I payed for the whole year thinking I was going to play and learn better, but I soon got overwhelmed by how hard it was to learn by your style. I feel I wasted a whole year of money subscribing to your plan and lost interest. I now moved and restarted the year with Simply Piano. They have a LOT better library and easier learning style.

Better stick to quarter notes.

The application does not pick up on notes played when they are played in rapid succession; any 16th and sometimes even 8th notes are not picked up so makes it hard to use....regret paying for this.

thank you for taking the time to share this. I’m sorry to hear that note recognition hasn’t worked as expected, especially with faster passages.

If you’re currently using microphone input, switching to a MIDI connection can make a big difference, particularly for rapid note sequences like 16th or 8th notes. MIDI input is much more precise and often leads to a smoother experience overall. You might also like trying the Just Play mode, which allows you to focus more on playing through the piece without constant feedback on every single note.

If you’d like, the support team is always happy to help you set this up or look into your specific setup together with you.

Great Service & Variety

This service allows users, regardless of which operating system, to participate, either by a browser or the dedicated apps. The increasing number of us who us a Linux based system appreciate this.

The graded levels of difficulty ensure that even if one is a beginner, there are songs which are approachable. This boosts confidence, and a willingness to move forward with increasing difficult material.

I love Flowkey …

I love Flowkey …. Learning at my own pace is the best
The only thing I would like is finger numbers on all the music. 🎶. which I am used to from my earlier tutored piano lessons . As an 80 year old my fingers are not as flexible as they were and I need extra help with finger numbering. .
A wonderful app with a great choice of music. love it 🥰

This is exactly what I was looking for

This is exactly what I was looking for. I am an older adult who took piano lessons for 7-8 years when I was a child. I have a lot of music I learned back then that I could still play but when it came to learning anything new, I got very frustrated. I tried getting back into playing multiple times over the past 40 years and I have not been successful until Flowkey. this app allows me to feel successful with only 10 minutes of playing and so it helps me want to return to the piano more often, even if I only have 15 minutes to play. THANK YOU! I feel accomplished and I am back to getting the joy and peace I always felt when I played!

It is a great app for beginners to learn at a slow pace. I really love how it waits for you to find the correct keys. I would prefer if you didn’t have to take your hands off the piano keyboard so much to continue or repeat a task. Too many keystrokes involved with each request

I have not used this for over a year but it has taken this long to get around to cancelling. It is a great invention, but I prefer Paper score and pencil being of a pre digital generation. I often work much slower than the demo. Good luck, I am sure it will work for many people

Thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts. I appreciate your kind words about the idea behind the app.

It’s completely understandable to prefer working with paper and pencil, especially when that’s how you’ve learned and made music for a long time. Everyone has their own pace as well, and learning with an app doesn’t feel right for everyone.

Thank you again for your honest feedback and your kind wishes.

It is a really easy way to learn piano

It is a really easy way to learn piano, you do need to put the practice in but it takes you at a pace that each individual requires. It makes sure you get the previous section correct before you can carry on. It easily picks up on what you have played through your microphone. There is an extensive library although no Les Miserables which I wanted to learn, hopefully they will add this soon. Overall highly recommended.

Thank you for sharing this. Reaching that point with both hands is a very common hurdle, especially when starting later on.

You might find the exercises and guided songs in the course Playing with both hands especially helpful, as they’re designed to build coordination step by step at a calm, manageable pace.

To whom it may concern, please see.

The following is what I originally sent Flowkey, if you experience similar problems the solution is Flowkey's response below this comment. "I purchased Flowkey's Classic Plan and it says "access to all courses and exercises" right in the description before you buy it. Happily I spent 100 dollars so that I could learn in depth and be taught skills on the piano. However, when I logged in and checked my subscription all of a sudden there is a premium lock on 90% of the songs and I'm unable to complete more than 1 lesson per course (there is about 8 lessons in a course (give or take)). I might as well have payed the extra 50 dollars for the premium which would've made you guys more money but you were unclear and now I am stuck with a useless subscription which I cannot use. I just wanted to learn piano. Extremely disappointing and frustrating." They solved the issue which is why I up this to 5 stars. It was a 1 star review prior. Thank you and I will enjoy learning piano with Flowkey moving forward!

Original response:
Thanks so much for reaching out and for explaining your situation so clearly. I’m really sorry that this has been such a confusing experience, especially when you were excited to start learning piano.

With a Classic plan, all courses and exercises should be fully unlocked, so what you’re seeing doesn’t sound right. In many cases, this turns out to be a duplicate account issue, which can make it look like content is locked even though a subscription is active.

Please get in touch with our support team (support@flowkey.com) so we can take a closer look and get this sorted out for you. We can also help you with an upgrade to Premium if that’s something you’re interested in, and make sure everything is set up correctly on your account.

Great service

Great service. I paid for a Flowkey offer, took a look yesterday and the app is great, easy to navigate and some great courses etc. The available songs are just not for me. Wanted Beatles, REM and Elton specifically. Hadn’t used it yet, just a first look. Emailed to say I’d like to cancel and explained why. Email and refund this morning. Easy as that. Why can’t all companies be so honest and straightforward?

Approach to Digital Instruction

1. As an American using your product, I’d like to see more country music songs and more gospel songs.
2. The two tier pricing for only “some” songs vs. access to “all” songs is a cheap gimmick and not a good look for the firm.
3. I would imagine that the use of AI could dramatically increase your ability to take digital sheet music and convert it to your learning format, thereby allowing you to offer a greater variety of music at a lower cost to you customers.
4. Overall, your approach to using iPad technology to bring good piano instruction to people at a reasonable cost is very good!

I’ve really been enjoying learning piano with Flowkey. The lessons are clear, well-structured, and make daily practice genuinely enjoyable. The discount I received was an extra bonus that made me even happier with my decision to subscribe. Overall, a great platform for beginners and returning learners.
