Written by the company

Fixings Warehouse was founded in 1992, and in 2017 we celebrated 25 years in business. Trading from a small industrial estate in rural Pluckley just outside Ashford in Kent, the business grew steadily until 2000 when it simply outgrew its premises and a second unit was opened in Ashford. A new flagship store at the top of nearby Charing Hill was opened in 2002 and was followed by a branch in Maidstone in 2005 which has now moved to larger premises in Aylesford. Servicing both trade and retail customers, Fixings Warehouse staff have full training and in-depth product knowledge. You can browse the products before you buy, as stock is not hidden behind a trade counter. However if you are outside of our catchment area we are very happy to take either website or telephone orders which if placed before 2pm will be despatched the same day.

I had a very disappointing experience…

I had a very disappointing experience your Ashford store today, I have of course left this same review in Google reviews and I’m lost for words over the whole thing.

My mum went in looking for a specific type of screw that needed to fit flush with a piece of furniture. While there, she noticed the coffee station and asked how much it was, to which the kind lady at the counter said it was free. As she was being assisted in finding the screws, she made herself a coffee and took a couple of lollies, which she was also told were complimentary.

When I arrived, my mum made me a coffee as well, as we had been told they were free. We then spoke to an older man about the screws and ultimately decided they weren’t quite right. We were curious about the price of a similar type that might have worked as an alternative and were told they were £1 each. Since we needed eight and they weren’t an exact match, we didn’t feel the price was reasonable and decided not to purchase them.

At this point, the older man made a rude comment, saying that "only paying customers get free coffees," half-jokingly but clearly directed at us. As we went to leave, he followed up with an extremely unprofessional remark: "I would say it has been a pleasure, but it hasn’t." His tone and attitude were completely unnecessary and left me feeling quite upset.

The two younger employees looked visibly uncomfortable throughout the exchange, and I can’t say I blame them. Judging by their reaction, this kind of behaviour from the older man doesn’t seem like a one-off.

What bothers me most is that we were told the coffee was free, had we known it was only for paying customers, we wouldn’t have taken any. In fact, I even asked as we were leaving if I should pay for the coffees because I felt so uncomfortable after his comments. The entire experience was incredibly unpleasant, and based on this interaction, I wouldn’t return.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us. I sincerely apologise for the disappointment and discomfort you experienced during your visit to our shop. Firstly, I regret any confusion regarding the complimentary coffee and lollies, which is free to all. It is our intention to make all our customers feel welcome, and to help them locate the goods they require, we are sorry that this was not your experience.

Regarding the comment made, it was intended as a joke and we apologise if it came across as rude, I often have similar banter with customers. We strive to provide excellent customer service, as you can see from our other reviews and understand that this remark may have been inappropriate and unprofessional to yourselves.

Your feedback is invaluable to Fixings Warehouse, and we are committed to making improvements based on your experience. I hope you will consider giving us another chance to serve you better in the future. If there is anything we can do to address your concerns, please do not hesitate to let us know.
