Faulty boiler

Came home from work to an issue with my boiler found ephg on google. They answered first time of trying and the pricing and arrangement was very clear and well handled communication was spot on and I ws handed over to Kevin my lical engineer who called within half an hour to discuss the issue and give me a timescale for his arrival then followed up with 2 further update phone calls. arrived as said and a friendly and polite guy.
Found the problem quickly and by some luck had the random part on his van that fixed the job within 30 minutes and then he went on to fix a leak that had been there for months
Top service from start to finish without any hassle and thanks to Kevin for his kowledge and customer service

Airlock repair £300 + VAT

I gave it 4 stars simply because of the high price charged as facilitators.

The service, for a Sunday emergency was very good. I had phoned a local company 3 times but was asked to leave a message. I then phoned EPHG, not knowing who they were ... ironically, unbelievably, the local company I couldn't get through to turned up.

I paid £150 + VAT for EPHG to contact the local company! They then charged £150 + VAT ... for 2 - 3 mins work fixing an AIRLOCK.

EPHG are certainly efficient and pleasant in approach, but their charges are way beyond what I would consider 'premium'. On view of the thoughtful reply below, I have upgraded to 4 stars.

I appreciate the review and in this case, there was nothing I could do about the charges as because any lower, the engineer wouldn't of attended and we wouldn't of been able to take the job on. My only assumption is that our client doesn't understand the cost to run the business as I've considered many times in the last 12 months not doing these call-outs but the truth is like many business's out there, it can easily cost £100 advertising per job and in some cases as recorded in July 2025 about £200 per job. I totally agree that call-outs feel expensive and due to no fault of our own, to be competitive in emergency call-outs, it's costly. I hope our client can reflect on my response and rate us on the service we gave rather than the cost that is at no fault to our company.

Costs are always given prior to booking, a text with the cost is always sent and our work always starts from the time our clients respond confirming the acceptance of the cost prior to sending the engineers out and in some cases, that could even include myself as a qualified engineer.

We find that most engineers on our system clients won't be able to find but some contractor are free to advertise themselves but may prefer to use us as a means of taking the jobs on so they are not stuck answering the phones themselves.

In regards to the work being between 2 to 3 minutes, as soon as the engineer arrives, the minimum of 1 hour does apply, and I understand that such a small job can carry a huge cost, but the issue we have is that if I said to the engineer can you go and do a job for a cut time of the first hours rate, they wouldn't want to go out because not only does it effect there day, but they could be travelling on average about an hour there and back, sometimes 10 minutes, sometimes longer.

As I take a lot of pride in my service, anything below 5 starts I like to reflect and think how could I make this better and in this case, I couldn't make it better, and making it cheaper would likely mean no service at all.

Fantastic quick response

Called late afternoon after noticing a leak in bathroom. Called EPHG and they arranged a plumber within the hour. A lovely, professional plumber called Kevin came and identified where the leak was coming from and isolated it. Thank you for sending a quality tradesman! An asset to your Company

Above and beyond the call of duty -- well done, Kevin!

Called to get my elderly uncle's heating repaired when it failed during snowy weather. Kevin Hudson came and made an immediate temporary repair, then came back with a new part to complete it. He then made sure there are no other problems with the heating system, going well above and beyond the call of duty! I really can't thank Kevin enough.

We always estimate 70% of boilers being fixed on first visit. Kevin is an exception given the stock he holds and maybe we have some other engineers in a similar situation out of all the engineers we hold on our system. I'm glad you're happy with Kevin as he's a valuable asset to our company. We also really appreciate the review you have given us. Thank you and best wishes.

I was billed £300 for just 10 minutes of work by the contractor. He came to inspect the leak and advised resealing the shower with silicone. After completing the task, the bill amounted to £300—remarkable! However, once he left, we checked further and discovered additional leaks under the sink. It seems this company focuses solely on taking your money without fully resolving the issues.

Dear Sandra, I'm not sure if you have the right company as I've not had any complaints coming through that reflect this, not sure where you got £300 for 10 minutes work. If you think this is related to do with any work with our company, please get in touch by sending an email to martin@ephg.limited - Also, last time we had anyone called Sandra was back in June last year.

Great Response Over Festive Period

I called EPHG on the evening of 29/12/25 to request an emergency plumber as we had come home to find a very large water leak that had come through the eaves in our house directly into the kitchen, causing extensive damage. Kenneth the plumber attended within approximately 2½ hours, identified the problem and fixed it. Very happy with the speed and quality of service. Would highly recommend EPHG.

Hi, really appreciate the review and glad the issue was fixed. I remember when this call-out came in and the location of the client and thought, this isn't going to be easy to get out and didn't say this, because I wanted to keep Optimistic for our client. Out of all the engineers I called first, I knew Kenneth was out of area and was very certain he would go. For many years now, Kenneth has been a great asset to our company. Hope you have a happy new year. Thank you

Really appreciate the review and I must admit, on the first attempt to try and get an heating engineer over, the quickest was going to be the next day, but as soon as our client mentioned his daughter, I think I spent about half an hour trying to get someone over to him and all thanks to Michael the Emergency Heating Engineer, he helped save the day and attended within 3 to 4 hours.

Very professional and reassuring service.

Martin couldn’t have been more helpful and professional on the phone and Neil did a very professional job sorting my toilet leak and checking the leak under my kitchen sink. He really knows his stuff and gave some great tips regarding drying both areas out too. Would happily recommend him to anyone.

Great customer service

Martin with whom I spoke showed amazing customer service skills. He listened, understood and showed real compassion for the situation my parents were left in.
What’s more, he did exactly what he said he would do, arranged for it to be sorted and kept me updated throughout which seems to be a rarity these days.
Thanks so much.

Excellent job

Excellent, cannot state enough how professional and reassuring Ged, the gas heating engineer was. Came to do the job properly after the run around by another worker. Prompt, clean, honest: fixed the boiler, checked everything else thoroughly, showed me what to look for and explained. Interesting that he saved me buying a new boiler, saying it was fine as the previous worker was telling me to ( buy from him). Also, looked into a radiator. Less stress and hassle with this company. The owner was also courteous and communicated well. Brilliant to see people taking pride in their work. Thank you

Hi, appreciate the review and I remember speaking to you yesterday morning. I can see that we've been giving Ged plumbing emergencies, boiler breakdown work since 2017 and could be longer as I cant see records beyond that. I'm happy that the engineer met your expectations and possibly more saving you further costs to a boiler you didn't need. Thank you.

Disgusting

This company charged me over £100 for putting me in touch with an electrician when I thought they were the electrician.
I pointed out that I would not have paid over £300 for an electrician just to look at the job. I would have contacted the electrician myself not used a go between for that money.

Dear Brenda, either you review the wrong company or you was fully aware of how we operate. All our clients are aware of the cost before we give the service in writing and for you to respond to the text confirming the cost by reply. We believe our business is outstanding in transparency. If you would like to make an official complaint, our email address is martin@ephg.limited. I'm not sure where you got the cost of over £300 from and maybe you had further work done past the hour and charges are not based on just looking. If I'm reading between the lines, we do state in the text message we estimate 90% of call-outs for electrical emergencies being complete on first visit, so my only assumption was that it wasn't an average emergency and further work was required for one reason or another. Conclusion: Client fully accepts costs, engineer arrives then decides they no longer like the cost. On behalf of the company, I'm sorry you feel this way and we don't feel the review is fair on behalf of our clients mistake.
