Jarring.
Super jarring experience. Unlike what their bookings say, their office “at” Malpensa airport Milan is quite far from the airport and the shuttle service is super delayed.
At their office, they cancelled many people’s bookings solely cause their flights were delayed.
In our case, they were super unhelpful and annoying about documents and their guide emails don’t have all the important information.
Overall, awful experience and no care for leaving clients in the middle of nowhere in the middle of the night.
Huge scam
This is a scam company. My car got a flat tyre and I was forced to pay €440 to get a 3hr taxi back to Venice to pick up a new car. They promised to reimburse me for this (and their T&Cs say they should) but have ignored all my emails since. They then had the cheek to bill me €250 for the tow service that picked up the car which I am clearly not liable for according to their own terms and conditions.
Terrible experience
Terrible experience, claim one condition eoth credit card and then 3 times higher with debit card and didnt want to return deposit (arramged eoth DoyouItaly), other car rental provided us with best service without credit card (in cash). On top of that, girl working there not just unpleasant, but disgusting person.
I'll never book via Autovia / Ecovia again
I booked via booking.com a car for 12 days for Bari Airport with Autovia / Ecovia. We should pay 249 Euros + 89 Euro for a booking.com insurance.
At the counter of Autovia / Ecovia they charged us additional 489 Euro because we were using a debit credit card. For explanation: 83% of all cards in Germany (and similar in other countries in Europe) are debit credit cards. We were aware that we need a credit card. But 200% on Top is not a fair thing to do (usury).
Autovia / Ecovia take that fact to charge over proportional additional costs / usury. We witnessed at least 15 others on top charges for the same reason while we were waiting 2.5 hours in line.
On Top we experienced:
- Lies
- Hidden Fees (249 Euros planned + 489 Euros Fees on TOP)
- waiting time of more than 2.5 hours
- Service Team from Autovia / Ecovia rude and aggressive
- Bad support from booking.com service members - they tried but couldn't find a fair solution
I will never book via booking.com rental cars again.
I'll never book via Autovia / Ecovia.
I would give 0 stars if I could
Avoid Ecovia at Olbia Airport like the plague. We were told to wait outside and ended up standing there for over an hour with zero communication, only to miss our car booking completely. Staff couldn’t care less – no updates, no help, just left us stranded. To make it worse, when we tried to get a refund through Booking.com, Ecovia lied and claimed we had only waited 10 minutes. Outrageous. Dishonest, unprofessional, and utterly unreliable. If you value your time, money, and sanity, steer well clear of this company.
Attention - Scammers
Very old vehicle with very little drive (DR4 instead of Octavia, 80,000 km mileage, hardly any drive power uphill, rented in August 2024 in Pisa) was handed over with polished paint damage on the bonnet. This damage was not visible to us when we took delivery, but the dealer was obviously aware of it, as it was discovered and claimed immediately on delivery. The dealer did not agree that we wanted to document the condition of the vehicle with photos when we took it over: It’s not necessary, it is an old car. We were forced to confirm the return with our signature and expressly emphasized that we were not prepared to accept this damage. The dealer assured us that the signature did not recognize the damage (the document was in Italian and therefore incomprehensible to us). But unfortunately we were lied to at this point, because our account was debited with over €700. We only managed to get the money back by involving a lawyer. We used our credit card for the rent, which has not been used since that. One year later, the credit card we used was misused: an attempt was made to use it to make Amazon purchases.
Rude staff and unfair extra charges
My friends and I rented a Ford Puma from 31/07/2025 to 06/08/2025 at Elmas airport in Cagliari. We took care of the car with maniacal attention, as we always do when we rent. Six days of driving with extreme care, respect, and full responsibility.
At the time of return, all Autovia/Ecovia parking spots were occupied, so we asked an Autovia/Ecovia employee if we could take a few extra minutes to clean the car even better and take our usual return photos. He said yes, and even told us he would park the car himself.
After a while, four more cars lined up behind us – they also had to return their vehicles but couldn’t find any free Autovia/Ecovia spots either. They were also waiting for the same employee to take the incoming cars and bring them to the car wash.
At this point, the Autovia/Ecovia employee, visibly anxious about the accumulation of cars, suddenly started yelling at us to move immediately. Shocked, my friend (who was driving) got back into the car and looked for a place to move it to create space for the others. The employee also pointed out a scratch on the rim, less than 2 mm, which he claimed we had caused and said we’d have to pay €82 for it. For a 2mm scratch, that seems entirely disproportionate.
Then the car wash guy told us we could park it in a very tight and uncomfortable spot between two cars, on a curve. My friend tried to park it, but given the stress of the moment and the way he was being rushed, he had some difficulty.
In response, the car wash guy and the Autovia/Ecovia employee openly mocked him, saying to each other things like, “This idiot has a license and doesn’t even know how to drive”, “Yeah, did you see how stupid he is?” – loudly, in public, and with no shame.
Eventually, he managed to park the car, but we got into an argument over how he had been treated. The employee ended up apologizing for being rude, but the bearded car wash guy with the hat never showed up again – not even to apologize for the insults.
We then went to the desk to speak to the manager, as we don’t like to leave negative reviews without trying to resolve things first. But the desk staff informed us that he had been in the parking lot the whole time, watching everything, and never intervened or said a word.
Don’t rent from them.
It’s not worth it – not for how you’ll be treated, not for the price (you might save a little up front, but you’ll pay for nonsense like 2mm scratches), not for the stress, and certainly not for the rude, unprofessional behavior. They’re petty, disrespectful, and unreasonably picky, clearly trying to make money off of anything they can.
Rent elsewhere — seriously.
Do not use this company!

Our flight and luggage was delayed, there was a line at the ecovia, so we could not pick up the car at the agreed time. Ecovia would not hand over the car, and Cartrawel would not accept a cancellation because we did not contact them before scheduled pick-up time, which was not possible for us. From both companies we have experienced a very bad service. When complaining to both companies, they refuse to do any kind of reinbursement. We are now complaining to MasterCard and Priority Pass. They should not work together with such companies who do not deliver good customer services.
Never again with Ecovia in Treviso.
We rented a car in Treviso airport and will never do it again. The experience was a real fiasco. We paid 360 euros for the insurance (seven days). We were led to believe that 100 euros of that amount would be paid back on return of the car. However, this was not the case, which means this company are charging over 50 euros per day for insurance. Everything was very opaque and deceptive. Ecovia in Treviso doesn't merit the beauty of the city. Never again.
Awful customer experience
Awful customer experience. After hiring a Siat Ibiza with a child seat at Roma Ciampino airport they said they didn't have a car seat. Therefore, we couldn't drive the car. We got given a number for a refund but because we didn't do it immediately (because we were finding another car to hire) we didn't get a refund. At the airport Sixt had the same issue with another family with a baby and elderly couple waiting around because they didn't have a car seat either. When we did get a car the staff member left us trying to fix the car seat because he didn't know how to do it. What is wrong with these companies???
Just don't book with them
Just don't book with them - at least not in Bari IT, use a reputable partner - think they partner up with economy bookings.
Once you arrive they will charge you over double the amount you have already paid online - as a “courtesy” since they refuse to use the credit card you used already.
Milan and Catania are not the same situation it would seem...
Ecovia in Milan airport was not at all representative of all the terrible reviews here (which are mostly from Catania). In any case, wanted to take the time and give a good review. I read all the bad reviews here and went in pretty on edge / worried.
The staff were nice and everything was fine with the car hire / payments etc. On occasion the staff were a little too "chill", e.g brushing off the fact we'd found new damage, and saying to just email the office about it with a picture instead of going through the process of marking it on the paper and getting it signed off.
That made us a little wary. But in the end it was all "chill". I got the deposit back within 1 or 2 weeks of the car being given back.
Would for sure hire from them again.
A total scam
A total scam. Sent pictures of “damage” not caused by us 2 months after we returned the car without a scratch. DO NOT USE THEM.
DONT BOOK HERE
Very rude staff, did not let us finish a sentence. When she couldn’t find my name in the register I tried to spell it. She responded “I know how to write, don’t tell me what to do”. After that she said the drop-off point we booked was not possible. She also said that our credit card was not a credit card, while everywhere else we used it it was accepted as a credit card. After this she tried to sell us a manual car, while we booked an automatic one. When we said we only had a license for automatic she said “so what, it’s Italy”. This is illegal. This car was also much more expensive than the one we booked. We spent €120 travel cost to get there and €38 reservation costs to get nothing.
Evocia - never again. Total scam
I thought from home that I had rented a car with full damage coverage (had paid extra for it). When I arrived at Ecovia to pick up the car, they claimed that the deposit could not be paid with any of my credit cards (I had both Visa and Mastercard), and furthermore, that the damage coverage I had purchased from home was not valid and that I had to pay for new coverage (€300). Interestingly, this new coverage could be paid with my credit card. Worst experience ever with car rental. One assumes that carrentals.com is trustworthy since it’s offered via Booking.com, which might be seen as a mark of quality and reliability. But I will never book through that site again and never use Ecovia again.
Deserve zero stars but there is no…
Deserve zero stars but there is no option.
Absolutely appalling experience with Autovia/Ecovia in Catania. We arrived with a young family after a flight delay, and we immediately informed the broker (Zest) as soon as we knew, and Autovia knew of our delay within 30 minutes. The staff at Autovia were completely unhelpful and refused to release the car.
The gentleman at the desk was rude, dismissive, and made no effort whatsoever to assist us or offer any solution. We were left completely stranded late at night with young children, despite doing everything correctly to notify them.
They are scammers, and it’s clear they don’t care at all about customer service or basic decency. We believe they should not be trusted, and we strongly advise against using them.
I have never experienced such poor customer service in my life.
Dodged a Bullet
So glad I didn't work for this company. Exposed lies they told me, false advertising and non existent communication.
Charged extra
They refused to take the deposit from my Revolut card and had to pay full coverage in order to proceed with the rent, costing me 3 times the initial rental price.
Their reasoning is that it's an online bank and therefore it's not supported, but funny enough they accepted my N26 card to pay the extra charges.
Another couple that was renting next to us got the same treatment, just because the card was from a joint account and not just from the driver.
Paid but no car
Paid but no car because the initials on the creditcard where different from the booking documents. No help from easyJet and Ecovia. Shame on them!! 😡🤬
Ecovia - Bunch of sharks stay away
Arrived at Turin airport and queued for 30 minutes overheard agent trying to extort money from client because he was late - he wasn’t. Because I was going to go over the border (in Europe who would do such a thing!) they added 100 euros to the hire. I argued that it did not detail this in the agreement. The reply was pay or stay in Italy. The car was filthy inside and out - full of rubbish and stank of smoke. Outside the wheel caps were badly damaged and both front and rear bumpers badly damaged. The body work was covered in dents and scrapes - video and photos taken!!! I have a feeling they will try to extort more money. Bunch of sharks stay away!!!!
