Avoid

So! Where to start!
Picked my car up and as I was driving away from driven in York, I looked down at my fuel gauge. 6 miles left in the tank, I nearly ran out of diesel before I found a fuel station, not a great start to my new purchase.
I drove my new car home and then got ready to go into work for my late shift. After my shift I got into my new car and every hazard light you could think of came up on the dashboard. My power steering stopped working, the speedometer stopped working and the handbrake failed. Undrivable, my new car was then propped up with bricks behind the back wheels to stop it rolling off my drive at home and all within the first 12 hours of purchase.
Driven sent a driver to pick up my new car and left me a very mediocre courtesy car while they attempted to fix it. Weeks went by and I did not have my car returned or any updates unless I prompted them. Around a month and a half went by and I offered an ultimatum on returning the car and me getting my money back. And if by magic my car was fixed the very next day and returned to me. Yippppeeeeee! Or so I thought. As soon as the driver had left, I got back in the car and turned over the ignition, to my displeasure the very same faults came up on the dash and the very same things failed in the car.On bricks again and driven came to collect the car and left me the very same mediocre courtesy car. Several weeks later again I get my car back fixed!! Yay!! Bearing in mind I have now owned the car for around 3 months and it's only worked properly for ONE journey.Around 6 weeks later I noticed specks of oil on my drive where I park the car and I was noticing a burning smell in the cockpit.
I contacted driven AGAIN to explain the oil leak, which was more prominent now and the burning smell, which was intensifying. Disinterested, they advised me to book the car into a local garage to diagnose the fault, suggesting that they would honour any repair costs due to the very short length of time I have owned the car. I paid for the engine repair myself, and then contacted driven explaining the costs and I was trusting enough to think they would honour this.
They stated that this was a natural "wear and tear" issue and have refused any liability for the repairs., even though I have had the car for only a matter of weeks and have put next to no mileage on the car.
Think very carefully before you buy anything from this company, they offer a very substandard service.

With reference to the response "driven" have wrote and referencing several other negative reviews that I have read on this platform.
I congratulate the company for their attempts to justify selling substandard vehicles and offering a "get your money and run" attitude to aftersales care for customers. Good work guys.

Thank you for your review. It is a shame you felt you have to leave numerous reviews on several platforms to show your frustration of Driven Of York not covering your £48 invoice to repair an oil seal.

In reference to your mention about the fuel level, you didn't bring this up on your test drive/deposit or collection, most customers ask us to put £20 in prior to collection and reimburse us when collecting the vehicle to save any hassle, however our location is next door to a service station, which you must have drove past.

We appreciate the email referencing our aftersales and how quickly we acted to get your vehicle repaired, the long wait was due to the vehicle being at the specialist BMW garage for around 5 weeks and then we was advised to drive the vehicle to ensure it wouldn't come back on, which is why when you called and wanted your car back we had to do so.
As for your mention of a mediocre courtesy car, we do not have to supply courtesy cars or give like for like however you bought a 2012 BMW 5 series and we gave you a 2015 BMW 3 series, so we would say this was more than adequate.

Apologies you felt that we would have covered the cost of a wear and tear item, we did explain if it was a mechanical failure we would intervene, but we can not be covering costs of wear and tear items. You have to understand we are a business and not a charity and can not just cover costs of the upkeep of people cars and then threaten if we do not cover the cost you would leave reviews everywhere.

Apologies you felt this way but from the review left and how we know how we have acted with yourself this review shows more good than bad as it shows we acted quickly to help at the start of ownership.

Excellent Service

From start to finish, the buying experience at Driven was excellent. The sales team struck the perfect balance with no pressure, just helpful answers when I had questions, and the freedom to browse at my own pace.

Although I was a bit disappointed with the part-exchange value, this was due to a previous overvaluation at a different dealership, and not Driven’s fault.

The car I purchased is fantastic — it drives beautifully and has exceeded my expectations so far.

What really impressed me was that two minor issues I had noticed were already fixed before I even had the chance to mention them.

Jason was especially brilliant, always available and supportive throughout the process.

I’ve already recommended Driven to others and wouldn’t hesitate to do so again!

Thank you for your review. It is a shame you felt that way. We mentioned to the finance company that we did shut at 5:30pm and normally finance companies payment runs are 10am, 12pm, 2pm, 4pm and 6pm, which would have been after our hours of shutting so the timing of payment was down to them and not us. There was a risk of the money not hitting our account before 5:30pm.

They did put the money into our account at 5:28pm but when we shut at 5:30pm it may have felt that you were rushed from your point of view, however our sales team are contracted to 5:30pm and after that it is up to them if they want to stay any longer as they have their own lives and families to get back to, some travelling as far as Rotherham.

Apologies you felt this way but our paperwork is only 2 forms to sign, so there is not a lot to sign once the money was in, our handovers last no more than 5 minutes, unless a customer wants to be shown the controls of the vehicle then it can take up to 30 minutes. We have been in the industry for well over 40 years and we know customers want to be in and out as soon as they can.

This response might read as funny or taken in anyway but we have opening hours for a reason and it is difficult when dealing with 3rd party finance companies because we are working on there terms.

Once again, apologies you felt rushed or experienced a bad service.

I bought a Range Rover Evoque in…

I bought a Range Rover Evoque in February 2025, unfortunately in August I encountered an issue the car needed a new DPF, I contacted driven of York as I had owned the car less than 6 months, without question they asked me to bring the car back for them to investigate and fix the issue. My car was took back 8/8/2025 and picked it back up 15/8/2025 with all issues fixed. Both Ryan & Tom kept me up to date all week with when my car would be ready to collect.

Fantastic service from purchasing the car right along to 6 months down the line.

Would definitely recommend and I would certainly use this garage again for any further purchases.

I purchased a car from here and as soon…

I purchased a car from here and as soon as I left smoke poured out, went back and was advised that it was because it had been sitting in the garage on not used. Fast forward to now and the DPF filter had been duck taped up and now I have the car in limp mode and will cost thousands to repair.

Avoid

Do not buy a warranty from this garage. The warranty is from auto guard and they are refusing to repair my drive shaft when it clearly states it on the list of things covered.
Absolute fraudsters who are willing to take £500 and not at all willing to pay out.

Thank you for your email, however we feel this review should be with the warranty company and not us. Correct in that we supply a 3rd party warranty, however after the first 6 months it is not our choice on what can be covered, you have owned the car for a year.

We have looked into your claim that was submitted by the LR Specialist to the warranty company and it isn't the Driveshaft that has failed, it is the support bearings that have failed. Unfortunately bearings are not covered after 70k miles due to wear and tear and your car has now carried out 74k miles, bearing in mind you bought the car at 62k miles. This is clearly stated in your warranty booklet.

Sorry you felt this way but this is not Driven Of York's fault and we respectfully ask you to remove this review.
