Evaluating 41 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Patients frequently struggled with poor communication, unreturned phone calls, and disorganized administrative processes that left them waiting endlessly for appointments, medical answers, or proper referrals. Billing practices and unexpected charges were another major source of deep frustration, with consumers feeling overwhelmed by confusing invoices and rigid prepayment demands. Poor referral experience at the Cleveland Clinic

I was referred to the Cleveland Clinic endocrinology department by my cardiologist to assure my hypertension was not related to my endocrine system. I subsequently scheduled the appointment and received confirmation with visit instructions. My wife and I then drove 5 hours to my appointment, parked, entered the main facility and eventually found our way to where we needed to be. The normal routine of check-in, insurance, etc. was performed and I was directed to another area of the building for my appointment. Eventually I was led to an examination room with a few more questions, blood pressure, temp, etc. This process took about an hour, then another ½ hour awaiting the Endocrinologist to arrive. All was well at this point, assuming 1 ½ hours is standard wait time for this type of visit.

This is where the experience changes a bit. The Endocrinologist did not know who I was or why I was at Cleveland Clinic. I asked if they had read the referral information and the answer was no since their office had not received any information. For the next 45 minutes I proceeded to provide history on my condition, my understanding of why I was at Cleveland Clinic and provided a copy of recent blood work. The Endocrinologist suggested we do additional blood work, asked if I wanted a COVID booster, suggested an Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Screening and suggested scheduling another appointment with the Cleveland Clinic Spine Medical Center, since during part of the conversation I mentioned stenosis in my neck. I still get those appointment recommendations every time I log into the patient portal MyChart.

I left the appointment a bit puzzled as to why the Endocrinologist did not have any background referral information and I found it strange the appointment was confirmed without having that detail. I proceeded to the blood work area which was a great experience. In and out in a timely manner and the nurse drawing the blood was exceptional. However, I found it odd 6 or 7 tubes of blood were drawn. My wife and I left to drive another 5 hours back home. Quite a long day.

I never heard back from the Endocrinologist so I went to the patient portal MyChart and asked for the results which were subsequently posted. I noticed many of the blood tests done had already been performed by the referring doctor and my PCP, so puzzled as to why repeated. I asked the Endocrinologist to provide a medical opinion after reading through the referral information. Apparently, the Endocrinologist office does not have access to the Cleveland Clinic Referral System so they asked me to have my doctor send them the information. My doctor’s office resent the referral information, but stated they could only send to the Cleveland Clinic Referral Office per procedure. Well, this went back and forth for weeks. As far as I know, the Endocrinologist never did receive any information which I still think is very strange. Why accept a referral appointment without referral information and background. This should be mandatory before scheduling an appointment.

Now the bills start surfacing. If you don’t login to the patient portal MyChart, then you don’t even know a bill exists. Eventually, I received a USPS paper bill for the Endocrinologist services which was paid upon receipt. I still have not received a USPS paper bill for the blood work, but the charges are exorbitant especially since many of the tests had already been done. I then contacted the billing office, explained my experience, mentioned that many of the blood tests should not have been repeated and if done at my local Quest or Lab Corp would have been ½ the cost. I was hoping for some type of concession due to my experience and was sent over to the Cleveland Clinic Ombudsman office where I detailed my experience. I received a call back a week or so later telling me there is nothing they could do, but their reason was based on non-factual incorrect information. I proceeded to offer insight into the correct details, however, I was told the decision was final and they would not review further. Wow! The Ombudsman office did mention they would look at changing their process, but no commitment nor insight into what type of changes would be made. I don’t think anything will be changing since their decision was based on inaccurate information which suggests everything happened as designed.

Bottom line, if you have a referral don’t trust the Cleveland Clinic process works and demand referral background is received and reviewed prior to confirming an appointment. Also, if blood work is part of the process, review the suggested tests to assure no repeats and opt to have blood drawn at your local Quest or Lab Corp which will be ½ the cost.

Worst ER In The World

I checked into the ER at 2 AM. I was suffering from a bout of gastritis. I was dehydrated and vomiting anything that I tried to put on my stomach. I went to Medina Cleveland Clinic asking for an IV and nausea medication. They refused till they knew what I was dealing with, as I was actively telling them what I have been dealing with. Hour after that, I finally get to the back and hooked up. The ONLY test they ran on me is a cat scan on my chest . For stomach pain and vomiting. After 3 more hours of waiting for an answer and being denied even ICE CHIPS because I was NPO, they discharged me. Without showing any ability to hold something down. I immediately left the Medina CC and went to Barberton Summa, where they immediately placed me on Sucralfate and began working on my stomach lining. Cleveland Clinic is an absolute joke of a healthcare company and it’s sad they have such a stranglehold on it, because they have 0 care for patients not on their literal death bed.

BILLING WARNING - No appeal process

WARNING, BEWARE.... After telling me they would take my wife's Blue Cross Insurance and the total bill would be $35 for a office visit NOT at the Cleveland Clnic, she paid $25 and they are still billing for $123 for a Cleveland Clinic Facility fee. The doctors office says they can do nothing, and Cleveland Clinic says to contact our insurance as they do not have an appeal process. We were never told of this 'facility fee' and our feeling is they are double dipping. We are making a complaint with the state for insurance fraud. I am on Medicare and I too had an appt. so if they are billing Medicare the same way and I hope Medicare stands up to them. When we hear about Social Security and Medicare running out of money, perhaps this is part of the reason. Shame on you!

Dr. Kuenzler: Amazing doctor and staff!!

I recently had an appointment with Dr Rebecca Kuenzler. My experience was awesome from beginning to end. When I enter the office I was registered by Daisha, who was friendly, helpful, engaging and funny. I was then interviewed by the doctors assistant, Sanem. She was friendly, empathetic, thorough, and very patient.

When Dr. Kuenzler came in the room with a huge welcoming smile, I knew I was in the right place. She was also very thorough, very patient, and very informative. She really filled in all the gaps of information that were rolling around in my head and nobody else has really been able to answer. I felt at ease with her and less anxious about my condition. She and her staff are amazing and I recommend them to anyone.

Dr Geoffrey uma

Dr Geoffrey uma, was our referral doctor after a ER visit. He told us there was nothing more he could do at this time. When I read his notes on my chart,he had stated that he checked my husband's heart, lungs and his mouth was pink in color. HE NEVER DID ANY OF THE ABOVE. We got a second opinion and the blockage in his legs was 100% in both legs. He only checks his lower legs and the blockage was in both upper legs. This doctor did not take any extra steps, he simply went by his chart. My husband is now having arterial bypass surgery on both legs. I would not recommend this man to any on.

Avoid this clinic and doctor

I don’t even know where to begin. My neurologist referred me to Cleveland Clinic for a diagnosis following a series of debilitating neurological episodes that have been occurring for over a year. I waited 6 months for this appointment and even rescheduled my grandfather’s funeral service for this visit. It was disappointing to say the least when Dr. Salgado came in very close minded and did not seem to believe me about my symptoms despite the fact that all my symptoms were witnessed and documented by other neurologists and medical providers. I was as experiencing a remission at my visit. I have been vomiting for a year and a half and have lost over 30 pounds. These episodes were severe enough to send me to the ER on multiple occasions. The pain, fatigue and tremors have been extreme and again have been occurring for a year. I asked Dr. Salgado about the excess myelin basic protein in my CSF and he seemed like he didn’t even know what CSF and elevated protein levels mean. He said that didn’t mean anything and I will say at a very basic level it should be understood that excess myelin basic protein in CSF is a demylemating condition of the CNS. I have a degree in the field but not the credentials that Dr. Salgado has and both myself and the rest of my medical providers believe that I have a neurological condition. Several of my medical providers who have doctorate degrees in neurology have diagnosed me with a demylemating condition of the CNS and simply sent me to Dr. Salgado for an official diagnosis between MS or NMO. Dr. Salgado was borderline hostile in telling me that there is no neurological condition that fits my symptoms. He advised that my symptoms were probably due to medication interactions. I have been on all the same medications for the last five years and I’m pretty sure my symptoms would be there all the time and not sporadically if it were due to a medication interaction. When I asked for another lumbar puncture or MRI since it had been a year he rudely said “why?” So disappointing. Dr. Salgado had no business being the so called director of the clinic and in my opinion is not a very intelligent individual for being closed minded, uneducated, rude and failing to order appropriate testing to finally give me a diagnosis. Dr. Salgado also doesn’t seem to care for anyone that might have some experience in this area and literally said “there is no neurological condition that fits your symptoms!” He then walked out of the room without even a goodbye or thanks for coming.

My physician said that I should walk to…

My physician said that I should walk to help release gas . Not knowing of a “code brown “ and never being admitted before I decided to walk to the security desk to check on property that was confiscated upon entry ( my favorite pocket knife). I got to the first floor where I was confronted by two heavily armed police asking where I was going and what I was doing . Demanding and barking instructions and flatly refusing to listen to anything I had to say . I had a gown on ! Clearly I was a patient of the hospital and not a gun wielding lunatic . I asked that I be able to return to my room and was promptly escorted by the two . Soooo embarrassed ! This leads me to believe that this police force needs more patient care training , more compassion and maybe to take a little more time to listen to their paying customers . Or maybe the simple solution is to keep their guard dogs outside !!!!!! Thanks Officer Cheatham # 156 and Officer Hathaway #175 for making me feel less than a man today

Can't trust CCHS doctors recommendations

My PCP who belongs to the CCHS system, made a recommendation to drink something with high carbs in it, while knowing I have a type 2 diabetes. I didn't follow this advice.

My chart states that I am non-religious. How come? Being spiritual IS religious and it's not up to the Clinic to decide either way. Just state, Spiritual, period. But no such luck; my chart states, Spiritual/Non-religious. I hate it.

They suck on so many levels

You know a company sucks when there is no complaint department. They don't care if they suck. We have had to deal with them a lot with different family members for the last five months. We now travel an extra 20 miles for another hospital.

The most incompetent billing department…

The most incompetent billing department you will never want to deal with. They don’t listen to your issue, the seem to completely discard you as a person (even snicker at you). They work from a playbook and you can keep trying to raise your issue, but they (Ebony) sounded like a broken record, repeating and repeating her diatribe. I’ve spent over 4 hours 3 different times with billing and they still insist they can’t bill UHC for 2 services. On the other hand, UHC stated they cover both at 100%. What gives Cleveland Clinic the right to determine which claims they will submit and which ones they expect you to pay outright? Cleveland Clinic you are there only to make money and have no respect for your patients.

Third strike I need to tell you about

I was told that I could go to a walk in clinic in strongsville ohio for a regular mammogram. I was told this on a Monday since I was informed mammograms can be preformed on Tuesdays and Thursdays I choose today 11/2/23 to walk in. I DROVE FROM Medina to strongsville to be told they don't take walk ins.
Wanna tell me what happened here ?
Secondly when visiting the pt center on a saturday it's happened at least three times in third floor ladies restroom no soap to wash hands with. How's that for hospital sanitation ?
Lastly if our privacy is so important to you why is it that in the docs office bldg checking in for an appt on the screens is there for everyone's viewing for instance my name address dob ss# etc all right there for the person next to me to view. At least put some side frames up like at the voting polls.

Visiting Cleveland Clinic was mistake

I went there for a post surgery review of my bypass surgery and follow-up care and then a few months later, my Son went there to review his hip surgery recovery a few months later. In both cases it was an absolute waste of time. Before the appointments, Doctors were sent a list of our concerns along with all medical records. The doctors read none of records they were sent before our appointments, and weren’t sure why we were there when we walked into their offices. We were both subject to 15 minutes of medical blather and left. Don’t go, it’s a scam-they are making money on a reputation that they don’t deserve. If you insist on going, only go if you have had a meaningful conversation with the doctors over the phone first and they are familiar with records you have sent them and they tell you why an appointment with them would be be worthwhile. But honestly I would pick someplace else to go, but if you do go someplace else, I would still follow my preconditions. BTW; Cleveland is not a pleasant city to visit, made worse when you realized you were scammed;)

Set up a second opinion some where else

Set up a second opinion. I have heart issues, but they did not have a heart doctor give me my opinion. They said someone would contact me in two days. It's been weeks and no one's contacted me. I would advise you to get a second opinion that's closer to you and one that does what they say...

Frighteningly incompetent billing department

The billing department literally can't even get insurance billing addresses or policy info correct. EVERY TIME YOU CALL THEY'LL STILL HAVE THE WRONG INFO. I've had two nightmare experiences in the last 3 years, and I'm still dealing with one. One was a cobra insurance policy (out patient surgery) and the 2nd a very minor workman's comp. claim. Relentless harassment to pay what they can't bill correctly. I've had to call for nearly every single medical provider, and facility charge, INDIVIDUALLY, over the course of many months, for them to bill the correct address and the correct policy, for over a year, in each of my two cases. Tip? Pay Cle Clinic NOTHING until you've demanded (Sadly, expect you'll have to) a rep 3 way calls your insurance. Always call your insurance provider to verify what you owe and if they were even ever billed, OR IF CLEVELAND CLINIC SIMPLY BILLED YOU THE FULL AMOUNT BC THEY DIDN'T BILL THE INSURANCE PROVIDER CORRECTLY. I'm switching to Metro Health- very sharp contrast and improvement in billing. If I had not hassled it out with Cleveland Clinic's billing department and just paid what they billed me? I'd be out almost $12,000. That literally should be criminal.

A disaster from the start!

The consultant international Dr Sullivan first. This man dozed off three times during our online appt! Fell asleep!! He then told me lies. He said he would coordinate appts and they could do all the tests there, and if they couldn't they could be done back home. Neurology GI rheumatology and I sent pictures had two appts with him online and I felt like I just might get help after this devastating neurological, rheumatological nightmare from the Pfizer vaccine. It was a disaster! The rheumatologist was running behind, after I nearly passed out trying to walk so far to get to the shuttle then to the wit ng room, the Dr yaseen took my mask off and sharply said you don't have sjigrens! I was so sick dizzy pain so bad all over me but she hurried to tell me to only answer her questions on the laptop she sat behind. I had given the assistant pictures but it was so rushed I couldn't separate them and she just said give them all to me she can separate them...it was like a blur, sue talked and moved my arms fingers and asked questions but I couldn't answer before another. She looked at my hands with all the red blood and white patches and said you think this is Raynaud's?! Like accusatory! I was soaking wet sweating and couldn't get my breath good and tried to say my muscles my ribs nodules veins knots behind my jaws on shins ankles hips face my face scalp hair loss etc...there wasn't time or interest! I thought this was the place to go to find out what you have! Other Drs couldn't figure out. Turns out it's just like here. Rush hush and go away w fibromyalgia! Neurology just as bad. It became clear to me he had focused in on the chronic pain and opiates I was prescribed and I was examined by his resident followed by me trying to describe what had happened. Well, he spent most of the time lecturing me about opiates! I've been a CP patient for many years, wasn't there for that. But the autonomic nervous system, pots, and all of the real symptoms and scary painful things he just brushed off. Spike to me like I was a child or not worthy of his time torrico was his name. He ordered biopsy for small fiber neuropathy but it has to be done there scheduled later. And said I needed an academic neuro hospital but his notes reflected nothing I told him! He simply filled in the blanks checked boxes and discarded me as an opiate user! I am a nurse and I've never seen healthcare so broken! The GI Dr and yaseen sent recommendations not orders back home but neuro refused and when I called was spoken down to like I was a nobody. Alot of things happened to my brain and body from that vaccine. I was and continue to hurting, and very sick. I had follow up w Sullivan after the long trip home and he just changed 180 degrees no longer kind but turning it all into opiates. Their documentation was lacking of my signs and symptoms, even with pictures! And basically like a bad dream. He wrote solely about my reluctance w opiates!!? I have a Dr and contract and that is it! How many CP patients are getting undiagnosed and just blown off in this country? Shame on you Cleveland clinic! I came there for answers! Hope to be able to hold my granddaughter again play with her again. Be like I was before the vaccine healthy! Profits over patients and bias is sadly this HC system and it's just sad. Had hope for Dr yaseen for a while with two phone calls and appreciate her recommendations but the rest was just a bad bad experience. When I asked Dr Sullivan for referrals he went into a frenzy " what's a referral? What is a referral? A consult? We don't use that..." off on some rant no eye. Contact online! Wonder if they even remember why they wanted to be Drs. Oh, and I have called ombudsmans office five six times as neuro told me to so sharply but even they don't seem to have to call people back. Maybe jacho should be next or the attorney general when I became a nurse long ago we were taught to treat patients like they were your family. You've forgotten what it means to care.

The most incompetent doctors ever

Someone flagged me as a drug addict even though the doctor admitted to my face that they have no proof of this and my tox screens are negative. I’ve been lied to repeatedly by doctors about procedures and medication side effects. My autoimmune disease which causes chronic pain is written off as “depression” and the doctors treat me like I’m hysterical and have “no reason” to be in pain while also acknowledging I have these conditions. Lastly, they keep trying to push me to pay for their “functional medicine” clinic which is a complete and utter scam but it’s making them millions of dollars so they don’t care how effective it is they are just preying on desperate people for their money. How is any of this legal?
