Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Evaluating 41 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Patients frequently struggled with poor communication, unreturned phone calls, and disorganized administrative processes that left them waiting endlessly for appointments, medical answers, or proper referrals. Billing practices and unexpected charges were another major source of deep frustration, with consumers feeling overwhelmed by confusing invoices and rigid prepayment demands. Some reviewers were happy with dedicated medical staff who provided exceptional care and performed successful, complex procedures. Reviewers also appreciated compassionate individual nurses and doctors who made them feel welcome, offering comforting, professional treatment during critical moments.

BILLING CUSTOMER SERVICE

Do to a clerical error on my Insurance coverage, bills that were covered by my Insurance were taken back as Blue Cross claimed I had no Insurance coverage for that period. I took four months to straighten out the problem but my insurance was restored. Blue Cross along with myself called the billing dept to let them know that the problem was being solved. We asked them to make a note on the account that we were working to have coverage restored but Cleveland Clinic said it was their policy not to. All along I was receiving notices about my pass due accounts. I understand that the bill is my responsibility and I was not ignoring the issue. I was working to get the problem solved. Cleveland Clinic should change their policy on not adding comments to customers billing accounts.

I requested the HPV vaccine for my 12 yr old daughter during a wellness check. A Muslim doctor, who had complained to me about having to go to medical school a second time in the US after attending in India, refused to give my daughter the vaccine. He started talking about my daughter wanting sex all the time because she had received this shot. He was an absolute idiot and there’s no way this hospital did not know this. Never again will I go back. They save the good doctors for celebrities.

Late one night I drove myself to the…

Late one night I drove myself to the ER. I was admitted for surgery the following day. I was alone and wanted to speak/meet my surgeon prior to the surgery. I had zero interaction with my surgeon or anthologist until arriving at the Operating Room door. I was so frightened and upset (in fact crying) just prior to my surgery. I don't have any answer for why I elected to proceed with the surgery, in retrospect I should have changed medical facilities at that time, but hindsight is 20/20. The next morning my dr sent her PA's to debrief me about my surgery. I had questions and wanted to speak with the person who actually had eyes on my situation. If I remember things correctly I believe she told me she would debrief me after surgery. It took four requests and 20 HOURS for her to come to my room and speak with me about my care. I was discharged the next day with minimal pain medication and ended up back in the ER for pain control. I wanted to change doctors and was NOT able to! I was forced to have further procedures from a doctor that I wanted to dismiss. I had zero rights. NEVER AGAIN FOR ME!

2 sides to the Cleveland Clinic

There are 2 sides to the Cleveland Clinic. If you have a condition and need a specialist or a surgeon, they have some of the best. If you go to this ER and get admitted be prepared for the total opposite. Their in-patient medical team are some of the most incompetent individuals I ever met. My father has been admitted many times here and Everytime he comes out worse then he went in getting c.diff or staph infection as a going away prize. The grew too fast and they will hire just about anyone with a pulse. If they want to be considered best in the world level they need to act like it as of now they are not even the best in Cleveland.

WORSE then the BMV - take a number that is all you are!

I cannot find the appropriate place on google to leave a review because well.... Cleveland clinic has no spot on google to do so. Also they have literally hundreds of numbers for the same facility, no way to get a direct answer and no way to seek help or understanding thanks to their state of the art centralized scheduling department.

Let me preface by saying this issue is not with the satellite facility where I had the procedure done necessarily as the staff are very good. It is with your horrible scheduling, lack of compassion and AMAZINGLY SLOW ability to help a patient who needs help now!.

Story: Had a recent mammogram, it came back showing something. As a woman I was highly concerned. I called scheduling (which I have no idea it might even be someone in India handling scheduling) and was told I have a 30 day wait to get back in for a diagnostic test. The fear and worry this creates is horrible with the possibility that one might be facing cancer? So I took into account that I am not that important in the whole scheme of things and that there are others out there in the same situation needing help. So I decided to see if one of your satellite facilities had an opening. Here lies the problem:

You have different breast centers. They are supposed to have doctors or surgeons who tell you on spot if you should be worried after the test. I talked to your main campus radiology department. NOT ONE Of them even a direct call into the radiology dept could tell me the process of a diagnostic mammogram and how the woman is treated or greeted or handled after the scan at your main campus or at any of the other locations that do a diagnostic mammogram. One lady told me it was two weeks to wait to forward the diagnostic final results of the second mammogram to the doctor.
Total and complete bull. Any facility worth their salt knows you give the woman the answer on spot. This is how is is done historically and currently. You even state this on your main breast care web page the importance of getting the patient in quickly for follow ups after something is found and answers are given immediately... (google it). With your operators and schedulers, the left hand does not know what the right hand is doing. You all are flying blind over there. Do better for crying out loud. Absolutely disgusting. On top of that forget compassion or empathy. Not gonna find it here.

What I once found to be a world class state of the art facility is now merely just another corporation that could give two s#$s about their patients.

I can tell you this, in the end if this turns out to be nothing which I hope and pray it is, I am done with these routine yearly tests. The anxiety this is causing is not worth it.

Cleanliness

Dr. Khayyat is a great neurologist. He did the gamma knife treatment at the main campus and we couldn’t be happier with the amount of care and respect we received from Drs. and staff!
The building was spotlessly clean unlike the Akron and Green facilities. I was shocked at how dirty those two facilities were. Medina and Stow locations were also very tidy!

I was verbally assaulted by staff…

I was verbally assaulted by staff coordinator of DR, Allison Snaider GI. The coordinator said her name was Geovanna V. which I doubt but she Canceled my appointment because she said it was made by mistake. I begged her to make an exception because I was in need and two months was way too far. She verbally abused me and said " I canceled your appointment and there is nothing you can do about it" I told her i was going to report her and she said to go ahead and then she told she was going to hang up the phone on me without giving me the time of the appointment only the date. I developed a panic attack and my BP raise. So sad I have to tell my story so others can learn about this horrible service experience.

Overall, exceptional care & facilities

Exceptional care from staff to doctors over multiple appointments and departments. Hip replacement, orthopedic department. Open heart surgery, Cardiac department, rotator cuff injury, orthopedic department, upcoming appointment at Cole eye institute. Do humans have a bad day here & there, yes, sometimes, but overlooking those random incidents, my & my husbands care has been 10*. I am sorry to see so many horrible reviews. We are from Erie where the healthcare community is poor. We researched and picked our own doctors, got appointments that were convenient to our schedule and most importantly, received absolutely the best care possible. I lived in a hotel for 25 days after my husband's surgery. Believe me, I know all the details of Cleveland Clinic. They restored my mobility, they saved my husbands life and I am excited about my eye appointment and possibly getting my vision back in one eye. I have never been hurried up or brushed off made to feel unimportant. Yes Cleveland Clinic is a huge place, making parking frustrating. There are thousands of people working there, is everyone on their A game every day, that's not probable. If they were as bad as all these reviews say, people would not come from all over the world to work there & be treated there. Do you need to do your research & be your own health care advocate? Yes, that's goes for any health care facility or doctor. Overall, I have not found a branch or department or doctor or staff at Cleveland Clinic to be anything but highly qualified & professional. Individual personalities excluded. My whole family drives from Erie to Cleveland Clinic to be treated. Don't focus on the 1* reviews, do your research before you decide where to be treated.

This place is a joke

This place is a joke. Up have to pay a fortune for parking, eating, lodging and it’s a total chaotic mess to try to get to the right doctors with all the different buildings and no one to assist you. It’s a nightmare for handicapped people. And the place is filthy, the doctors are not compassionate they ask you a question and cut you off before you can answer. Then tell you to make a phone appointment to follow up on testing done and there’s no one at the desk to do that as well as when you call back they say they will send a message and have someone contact you and still after a month no one has contacted to even set the appointment up and after numerous callers back to them I get the same exact answer. I will never return and will never recommend this dump to anyone.

MISERABLE experience trying to contact…

MISERABLE experience trying to contact anyone by phone. I've had to make numerous phone calls to the Cleveland Clinic throughout the years. In every instance, I've been on hold for 20-30 minutes. One time I was given the opportunity to leave a call back number, and I never received a call back. Simple problem to solve if they would just hire more people to answer phones.

20 specialist

20 specialist. 10 years of going downhill until I became wheelchair bound and 89lbs from the damage done to my body. Every doctor at the clinic said, nothing is wrong. They all participated in blocking my medical care when other people were receiving it. I had viral encephalitis and severe brain swelling and nothing was done. I had to become my own doctor thanks to the lack of care at this hospital and everywhere else I went.

I’m trying to get a primary care…

I’m trying to get a primary care physician and when I called up to make an appointment they told me that they’re not taking appointments this year. They told me the doctors are all booked. I said “every single doctor” they said “yes”. So basically, I have no care and they don’t care. They are horrible. I asked to speak to a manager they put me on hold and then hung up on me. I will never go there ever and I will never recommend them to anybody.

Visited Cleveland Clinic Akron General…

Visited Cleveland Clinic Akron General Emergency Department with elevated blood pressure, severe headache, dizziness, vomiting, and shortness of breath. To their credit, shortly after arrival, they drew blood, EKG and a chest x-ray. After a few hours they took my blood pressure about once/hour. TOLD THEM MULTIPLE TIMES THAT I HAD TAKEN NEW MEDICATION PRESCRIBED BY WORKMAN'S COMP (WC) OFFICE. I told them that my skin feels like a basketball, which is uncommon for me. Doctor twice denied that I was dehydrated. I was wheeled in and out of rooms and seen by four or five different practitioners. I was given medications for dizziness and vomiting.
**Not even a hint or discussion of possible ill effects or reaction to the medication!! No Covid test or offer for vaccine. No offer for flu vaccine. No IV fluids (I agreed to IV fluids).
The waiting area was packed. Emergency does not appear to have night shift housekeeping. The bathrooms were filthy, and blankets and trash were scattered around the waiting area. About eight hours in to my TEN HOUR visit, one person picked up the blankets. Masks were not worn by staff, but a few of us patients wore them. Staff was nice. Billing came in and I gave her the WC info. My insurance company has been billed despite me stating this is a WC issue. Now, of course I am on the hook for hundreds of dollars if not more. This is not the first time. Cleveland Clinic billing is scandalous.
